Bowie, David - We Are The Dead Lyrics
Something kind of hit me today
I looked at you and wondered if you saw things my way
People will hold us to blame
It hit me today, it hit me today
We're taking it hard all the time
Why don't we pass it by?
Just reply, you've changed your mind
We're fighting with the eyes of the blind
Taking it hard, taking it hard
Yet now
We feel that we are papers, choking on you nightly
They tell me "Son, we want you, be elusive, but don't walk far"
For we're breaking in the new boys, deceive your next of kin
You're just an ally of the leecher
Locator for the virgin King, but I love you in your fuck-me pumps
And your nimble dress that trails
Oh, dress yourself, my urchin one, for I hear them on the rails
Because of all we've seen, because of all we've said
We are the dead
One thing kind of touched me today
I looked at you and counted all the times we had laid
Pressing our love through the night
Knowing it's right, knowing it's right
Now I'm hoping some one will care
Living on the breath of a hope to be shared
Trusting on the sons of our love
That someone will care, someone will care
But now
We're today's scrambled creatures, locked in tomorrow's double feature
Heaven's on the pillow, its silence competes with hell
It's a twenty-four hour service, guaranteed to make you tell
And the streets are full of press men
Bent on getting hung and buried
And the legendary curtains are drawn 'round Baby Bankrupt
Who sucks you while you're sleeping
It's the theater of financiers
Count them, fifty 'round a table
White and dressed to kill
Oh caress yourself, my juicy
For my hands have all but withered
Oh dress yourself my urchin one, for I hear them on the stairs
Because of all we've seen, because of all we've said
We are the dead
We are the dead
We are the dead

People like elvis.
Bands like queen and the rolling stones. And othe music like tat.
What use would there be for music.
Today's music is mostly crap. (Not all) Coldplay is quite good.

I tried to read all the comments but they were never ending. Bowie was the one person I always wanted to meet. I am still grief stricken that he has died. I can't even find the words to describe my respect for his talent and musical genius. I am truly thankful for his influence on me in my early years when I began developing a taste for music. God only knows what horrible musical decisions I would have made otherwise. Thank you, David. I will continue to listen to you til my dying day.
Three years today since you passed to the other side...RIP beautiful man...I absolutely love you..always have ..always will ❤️⚡️
Justin Bieber is the new David Bowie.

Love you David Bowie. You are and always will be my hero. Thank you.
Diamond Dogs gotta be one of his greatest...albums???
I would put The Man Who Sold The World up there, too.
@Chris Evans yeah. I like Width Of a Circle at the start. Such an great song, with an amazing middle 8, which I think is very under-rated. I think my favourite overall David Bowie song overall is between We are the Dead and Width of a Circle.
I agree
Hunky Dory .
I think its not an album anymore, its simply a way of life

'We' are the dead.
All you clowns can focus on is death? Pathetic comment section on every Bowie song
What a shame you're all so morbid
Can't even comment on the songs
This musical would've kicked it majorly. Poor Mrs. Orwell. She made a grievous mistake.
murielsartre I wish that would've happened so much
@Astronomy Domine Me too, it would have been incredible. I wish he had gone back later and tried to get the rights - he probably would have gotten them as his reputation and fame grew. Or when she died...!

My BIGGEST musical influence, I also thought he would be around for a while longer. I just celebrated his birthday Friday. I know you are in a higher dimension David, thanks for all you have done, I am moist sad..... Denny Celestino S HybridSpecies

Mañana en la blondie!
I loved this song since I heard it, but the lyrics truly hit me after finishing Orwell's "1984". Basically, whole "Diamond Dogs" got a new meaning. (Despite song with the same title which is obvious).
I just finished the book yesterday. I wanted to read because of Bowie. It is quite an awesome book
great minds influence each other and isn't it great how they lead you from one to another
Omg I just finished it and this has to be my favorite album of his now
I was at the MSG NYC 1974 show. My first concert and what a concert. Those were the days.
+Steven Carinci lucky you wow!
+Steven Carinci Steven, I was at the Detroit concert at Cobo Arena. Here is my post from Facebook with the photo I took of my hero back when I was 17 years old:
David Bowie - Cobo Arena, June 23rd,1974 - Diamond Dogs Tour. I borrowed my Mom's Instamatic, and had front row seats. This concert is what hooked me on photography !!!
This was at Cobo Arena. June 23rd, 1974. This was my 9th concert that I had attended. There were about 6 or 8 of us and we had Tier B tickets. I was stoked. My Mom gave me her Instamatic to take to the show, as she knew how much I loved Bowie.
I started wandering around and walked onto the main floor, with no one asking me any questions at all. I walked right past the usher at the end of the 1st section and strolled right up to the front of the stage.
I was there for about 2 minutes looking around, and a guy to my left in the 1st row, was tapping the empty seat next to him and said, "Do you want to sit here"? I sat and asked if the seat was taken, and he told me that the seats were comp from a connection, his friend couldn't make it, and the seat was mine. The lights suddenly went out, he tapped my shoulder, slapped me five, and said "Welcome to the front row, enjoy the show". What a way to see my rock hero !!! And I had my Mom's Instamatic.
Fabulous show ... excellent seats, a wonderful memory !!!
Fantastic. I saw him at Olympia in 1976 but didn't have the cash to see him at Cobo. So jealous. I will see if I can look at those pics on Facebook.
incredible story
as someone said below, who writes like this anymore?
great album listened to this album when i was 12 i can only laugh at the pure SHIT that is out today and thats what it is PURE SHIT
le born in le wrong le generation ecksdee
"I only care to look at the mainstream due to my ignorance." This is not what Bowie was about at all man.
the master has played, bowie is fantastic at this track , he intices you, sucks you in and eats you, I love this track soo much, the emotions inside is a cross over , his voice hypmotises , ok im a bad speller.. but bowie fans know where im coming from x
Indeed, I feel you.
+Augustus Caesar , I feel for all bowie fans, as this master of talent drew us in and we went without fuss, we will always remember the hero, artist, friend he became, I will always be thankfull he was born into this world and gave me some great times in my life, thank you augustus,
I feel for you now. augustus, youre hero has passed. I looked into youre faves, and prince was a top one, its a horrible thing, but im here, if you ever want to let off some steam, he was a great artist, hope youre ok, xx
@Jane Currie Thank you darling for your kind thoughtfulness. Just thinking about it again makes my head hurt. Both Bowie & Prince. (Interestingly about a month before April the 21st, I was putting pictures of Bowie & Prince together on my Instagram, only for in one year to have both of them transition.) I have been listening to Prince since the age of Five I own most of his albums. Hence his spirit through his words have been within me the majority of my life & upon his departure his words & spirit lives on within me. But now that he's gone it's quite hunting. I can say so much more yet no words will be adequate enough. Yet for you to make mention of it, than I'm sure you can imagine how the issue directs one straight into a grayish world of limbo. When Prince left the building, there went my spiritual guru & my ascended master. Imagine the way such a student would grieve over their master. (There is a great sense of dignity involved. A great feeling, this Knowledge & Knowing that the spirt & soul of one's master & teacher is everlasting.) Again I think you for your kind words, such actions from a stranger has deeply within it the vibes of a friend. (Peace be wild.)
Yes, we do.
This is a pop song???? Genius!!!
def best song i've heard in a while
i really can't decide which of bowie's album i love the most. so much great stuff. even never let me down which is considered one of his worst has just such cool and catchy tunes.
+amaurythewarrior station to station is mine l think
Brilliant!

in this song sometimes i think that Rozz Williams is singing..!
+jean sardel Bowie def influenced Rozz.
Jean Maldoror has
Just perfect. Especially this track and Growing up. Love the feedback at 2:21 is , as far as I know, the earliest album to have a little squelch. If not I'm sure someone out there can comment ; )
No. "Revolution" by The Beatles starts with feedback. John Lennon was enormously proud of that.
eNeNe actually it was earlier than that. The first recognized use of feedback on a record was The Beatles' "I Feel Fine" ;)
Surely one of the great unsung Bowie tracks!
A beautiful yet chilling evocation of Orwell's "Us against the System" sub theme from 1984.
Poignant elec. piano chords and a cool chorus riff set D.B.'s verbose diatribe just right as we glide to the final out chorus/ title... resigned to the truth...set free...
How Nice Are Memories ?
If this were the only song he'd ever recorded I would still be a huge fan, but thankfully...
Brilliance.
Pure brilliance
Poetic and musical mastery
^^^ This
Best song on Diamond Dogs without a doubt.
Sweet Thing ?
