Bowie, David - Look Back In Anger Lyrics

"You know who I am," he said
The speaker was an angel
He coughed and shook his crumpled wings
Closed his eyes and moved his lips
"It's time we should be going"

(Waiting so long, I've been waiting so, waiting so)
Look back in anger,
driven by the night
Till you come
(Waiting so long, I've been waiting so, waiting so)
Look back in anger,
see it in my eyes
Till you come

No one seemed to hear him
So he leafed through a magazine
And, yawning, rubbed the sleep away
Very sane he seemed to me

(Waiting so long, I've been waiting so, waiting so)
Look back in anger,
driven by the night
Till you come
(Waiting so long, I've been waiting so, waiting so)
Look back in anger,
feel it in my voice
Till you come

(Waiting so long, ahhh...)
(Waiting so long, I've been waiting so, waiting so)
[repeat ad inf.]

  8. W.... H....

    Definite Beatles influence

  9. n.... ....

His presence changed everything. Mr. Jones(Bowie) and Freddie Bulsara(Mercury) fronting Queen were the unique understanding of musical expression shaping and expanding sonic consciousness who inspire but were so unique we long for their return in some form.

  10. T.... K....

    What happen to his face?

  11. y.... d....

Looks like he tried making a pb and j on half his face

  12. P.... V....

One of my favorite tracks on "Lodger". Dennis Davis drums are so epic! Some of the best percussion ever!

  13. J.... P....

Would have been great to have Jaco Pastorious on this track sessions

  14. L.... L....

Someone does it like ross but better here

  15. P.... ....

Great beat. Although he sometimes looks like Bowie fan Ricky Gervais did in his Seona Dancing days, e.g 0.33, all staring at the camera with great import and 0.53 all mournful little boy lost. Even the backing vocals seem Gervais-esque with coolness unwittingly (although not unwittingly in Bowie's case, I'm sure) undercut by bitter sarcasm.

  16. A.... H....

    No don’t!!

    The title is missing something..

  19. R.... G....

Eno made it interesting on a deep level.

Video one with Richard “depeche” Blade in LA, they’d do all Bowie Shows when he was live in LA somewhere, always to end with what he said was Bowie at his Best: the black and White Wild is the Wind video.

  21. .... ....

Very very beautiful! It is impossible to take your eyes off him!

  27. T.... U....

    Fuck. This voice.

  28. L.... M....

Such an important an influential song on my own writing, right up there with Life On Mars?, Ashes to Ashes, and the entire Outside album.

  29. g.... ....

    He’s so dramatic lol

  30. g.... ....

    This song is so hot

  31. p.... ....

He was kind of more sexy with his original wonky teeth.

Love the song and video. Dorian Grey obviously.

  35. P.... ....

Holy hell, I've listened to Bowie my whole life but never heard this song until now, and godDAMN I love it

  36. A.... H....

If it's not the tortured artist cliche I think it might be the side effects of the cocaine

  37. A.... H....

    Sounds like bluejay way

  38. W.... R....

I was just watching Christiane F, where this song forms a memorable part of the soundtrack.

  39. S.... G....

Song title came from a Donald Pleasance movie, so did another 'Lodger' track, "Fantastic Voyage".

  40. N.... S....

From what I've heard Bowie took that painting with him to New York where it was eventually gifted to the Metropolitan Museum of Art before apparently going missing in storage some time in the late nineties.

  41. M.... S....

Lodger un grande album. Batterista incredibile.

  42. G.... S....

David Bowie was one of a kind. Amazing musician.

  43. T.... P....

Not really a big fan of the berlin trilogy, but lodger and this song are my favorite things to come from it. Both low and heroes I found boring after side one. Lodger is not my favorite album from him (man who sold the world take that title) but it is the last one to listen to in full before picking different tracks from the other album to listen to. And low>heroes.

  44. N.... C....

    love this video and song

  45. D.... B....

Dennis Davis - The Drums ♥

  46. e.... d....

greatest head of hair in rock & roll history! well 3 way tie, between Bowie, Elvis, and Daryl Hall, honorable mention's to Lenny Kravitz. and Bob Marley! (dreadlocks division)

  50. M.... R....

Remember seeing all these Bowie videos from Lodger,Scary Monsters and Heroes on the very early days of MTV. They all had such an effect on me.

    M.... R....

Psychological art does have that profound effect.

  51. H.... ....

Eno said to Bowie "Remember Third Uncle? Let's do something like that!"

  52. J.... s....

    Lodger very underrated

  56. t.... T....

    De que ano é essa música?De 1981?

  57. s.... 1....

I know it sounds like a hipster thing to say but I enjoyed listening to Lodger more than any other album. It provided the deepest escape for me. I would never recommend the album to anyone trying to get into Bowie, but I discovered this album at a very odd time in my life and it just felt so good.

  58. e.... d....

    dear god, he was beautiful.

  60. j.... ....

David Bowie would be the best Dorian Gray

    j.... ....

He wanted to play Egon Schiele in a never completed '70s biopic, that would've been something...

    j.... ....

    @WarlockofWordsReturns RB yes.

  61. m.... n....

    great song

  62. d.... h....

Christ, he sounds so much like Scott Walker here... I love it!

  63. M.... R....

    I simply loved this man.

  64. K.... R....

    Very Lennonesque backing vocals.

    K.... R....

Yes, I got a Beatles vibe, too. It reminds me of Harrison's "Within You Without You."

  65. M.... H....

    I think it's a great video.

  72. k.... ....

I wonder if the painting was done by David, I think he did paint in his younger years. xxxx

    k.... ....

It was. He did many self portraits, not only in his younger years :)

  73. R.... S....

Slip inside the eye of your mind -- woops, wrong song

  74. m.... ....

    Horrifying.

  75. S.... ....

I wonder what happened to the canvas.

  76. T.... ....

    I'm deranged now

  77. p.... ....

Just realized he is in a room with an A-frame ceiling, similar to the room in Blackstar. Lodger, always one of my favorites. A fantastic voyage.

  78. G.... B....

I fucking LOVE Carlos Alomar’s rhythm guitar “solo” from 1:17! Bowie could sure pick ‘em!

  79. G.... B....

What a blinding song! I love “Lodger”! It’s one of Bowie’s best albums! Although it’s kinda overlooked in the wake of “Low” and “Heroes”.

    G.... B....

    Scary Monsters is also underrated!

  80. L.... 5....

    Just listen that drum, wonderful...

    L.... 5....

    Best part of the song

    L.... 5....

@ThinWhiteAxe Especially at: sec at :53 sec when the drummer went to his hi-hat

  93. J.... P....

One of my favourite David Bowie songs. "Lodger" is such an underrated masterpiece, in my opinion. :)

  94. J.... C....

I LOVE his vocals in this song! The intensity, anguish......

  95. E.... B....

    Great song.

  96. M.... S....

Gosh I hope the record label releases the remixed version of "Lodger" as a stand alone CD. Right now you can only get it in the box set. "Lodger" has some fantastic songs, but the mix and the sound of the record suffered. It was one of the only Bowie albums to ever be recorded and mixed in various locations. Bowie and Eno were also starting to fall out at this time. I believe this song opened most of Bowie's "Serious Moonight" tour dates.....the tour that supported "Let's Dance." Great tune.

    M.... S....

Interesting knowledge with regard to them falling out. I had heard that before but hard to believe without either being quoted. I was there in 83 and was blown away with this as the opening song. I had adored it since 79 so it was a special (and still is) song. I was 10 metres from him at the supernova 78 show. I still get flashbacks from that white hot show. Like your knowledge.
