Bowie, David - Glass Spider Lyrics

Up until one century ago there lived,
In the Zi Duang province of eastern country
A glass-like spider
Having devoured its prey it would drape the skeletons
over its web
In weeks creating a macabre
Shrine of remains
Its web was also unique in that it had many layers
Like floors in a building

At the top of this palace-like place, assembled with
almost apparent
Care, were tiny, shining objects, glass, beads, dew-drops
One could almost call it an altar
When the breeze blew
thru this construction
It produced sounds of wailing, crying
Tiny wails, tiny cries

The baby spiders would get scared and search frantically for their mother.
But the Glass Spider would have long gone, having known that the babies
Would survive somehow
on their own.
Oh-The Glass Spider had blue eyes almost like-a human's.
They shed tears at the wintered turn of the centuries.

Don't you hear this wasted cry,
Life is over you
(Mummy come back 'cause the water's all gone)
But you've seen who's in heaven. Is there anyone in hell
(Mummy come back 'cause it's dark now)
Take care, take care.
(Mummy come back 'cause the water's all gone)

Somewhere she glows divine. Somewhere she wakes alone.
But you, you've promise
in your lovin' eye.

God it's dark now.

Jah Jah Jah Jah Jah
Jah Jah Jah Jah Jah

Gone, Gone the water's all gone
Mummy come back
'cause the water's all gone
Stay low on the ground, fire can drive you,
savage and afraid
Spitting the dawn, come come come along
before the animals awake
Run, run, we've been moving all night, rivers to the left.
If your mother don't love you then the riverbed might
Gone, gone, the water's all gone
Mummy come back
'cause the water's all gone

Jah Jah Jah Jah Jah
Jah Jah Jah Jah Jah

Gone gone the water's all gone
Mummy come back
'cause the water's all gone

A real low point in Bowie's stage shows. Those dancers...

😆😂 He’s desperately trying to be Elvis. Love Bowie but I think I’ve seen enough of this concert.

  4. B.... ....

Love this concert! Rich in 80s nostalgia! Some great Live renditions here of album material

I attended one of these concerts, in Gothenburg. I was hugely disappointed at the time, as I was hoping for a rerun of the Serious Moonlight Tour, which I was not allowed to attend (14 at the time). Although I don’t think all the songs held that top notch Bowie-standard I actually think the show is pretty good and wish I had more appreciated it at the time. Opening with that version og ‘up the hill backwards’ was such a cool thing to do. This kind of show seems eventually to be what he could never do with his orwellian diamond dogs tour, and I dig the theatricals of it all. Hey, the studio versions we can listen to on the records, can’t we?

  7. k.... k....

Can someone explain what the choreography is about ...I didn't get the opening bit with the fake fan them the dress etc..I like him ,this isn't a phase I personally enjoyed ,I just wondered what the "look" and the stage direction came from ...oh no no no to "la,la,la,la" on rebel rebel and that guitar....

  8. v.... s....

I was there at wembley, my 1st concert ever!

  9. R.... B....

Youtube have ruined one of the greatest concerts ever by putting adverts into it. That is sacrilege to do to any concert but to do it to a Bowie concert is totally unforgivable.

  10. P.... G....

Is that Peter frampton on guitar?

  11. L.... M....

This was the over commercial Bowie that his true fans just didn’t like, the years from Let’s Dance to Never Let me down were considered his most successful commercially, and Glass Spider riding on the back of the hugely successful Serious Moonlight tour was just too over the top, too eighties dance and too American......it just wasn’t him, and by the end of the tour he knew it!!! I have every Bowie album since 1967 and Never let me down is the only one I never bought! I have seen him concert ten times in the the UK and finally in the US in 2004 in the Reality tour and it was in my opinion his best performance ever, sadly that tour went on too long and nearly killed him!

  12. N.... ....

I saw this concert with my cousin at the CNE Grandstand in Toronto in August '87. Great show. Northern Pikes and Duran Duran opened up for my Bowie. I'm glad I got to see him in concert at least once.

  18. B.... F....

hey do someone know why there isn't big brother on this performance ?

  19. K.... 5....

The Serious Moonlight tour was MUCH better. More vintage songs . By '87 the Bowie machine was showing signs of age and strain. Day In / Day Out = boring . Great to hear deep cuts like Sons of the Silent Age , but the song: Station to Station - an ESSENTIAL Bowie concert number has been replaced by oatmeal songs like Loving the Alien. Also also: Bowie spent a decade getting away from the glam stuff, yet here- he's back at it in a 1980s way (?) that feels insincere. Carlos Alamar is pretty damn awesome tho.

    This looks so camp.

  24. J.... D....

Bowie is a genius. He transcends.

    At a treat.

  26. J.... r....

Alguien sabe donde aparece el grupo locomia.como invitado.

    J.... r....

@Ramon Eduardo Alcala Cano escuche en un documental que a david le encantaba la imagen de locomia y los invito a su tour este.

  27. R.... ....

Bowie's secret is that he has never grown old. He was like an angel put on the earth. Free from oldering, gravitation, cynism. From young until he's last album stayed fresh, open and curious. No album of David is the same, yet all albums have a youthfull openess. Although I wish he would still live and get 120 years old, maybe it is good the way it is, leaving us unbroken, uncompromized, unaged: a truelly unique human beeing that impacted many generations. I miss him.

  28. G.... O....

    OMG! Who's the guitarist?

    G.... O....

    Carlos Alomar

  29. A.... B....

The awful ostentacious late 80's Bowie. He'd lost his way, in fact, sold his soul for the American dollar. He always regretted this tour.

    A.... B....

I'm an American fanatic of his and aside from two tracks (such as the underrated "Absolute Beginners" from the soundtrack of the same name), this tour indeed was over blown & stunk. Amazing to see Peter Frampton on lead guitar, though! I'll always love him but for '80s Bowie I only like about four tracks & that is it. His '70s and '90s work I much prefer.

Don't know; like many I just plain never got into how overly gawdy this all looked on stage. Plus it's whole production sound.

  30. B.... K....

WHAT UTTER DOGSHIT. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THIS DUDE?? HE WAS LIKE THE COOLEST MAN ALIVE AT ONE POINT AND THEN THIS......

  31. M.... ....

This is Spinal Tap territory. Does he come out of a pod?

  32. J.... O....

Saw this tour in San Jose... Visually Stunning. Musically 'Blah'---

  33. 1.... k....

Bowie made sure footage of a full concert existed for this tour because he regretted that one didn’t exist for his diamond dogs tour

  34. G.... S....

Anaheim , the concert ended with " Time' , if I remember correct , then those wings on his back spread out as he brought us all down , " We should be home by now".

  35. G.... S....

I went to the one in Anaheim , Angel's Stadium.

  36. A.... M....

Conceived by David Bowie <3 thank you for uploading

  37. A.... S....

Part of the music arrangements of the show were very influence by Prince's funk, and many Prince collaborators said that Prince was influence by this tour for his Lovesexy tour,. They both, Prince and Bowie were big fans of each other.

    A.... S....

Bowie also played “1999” album over the speakers before taking the stage for his serious moonlight tour

  38. A.... C....

Mesmo sendo de 87, a qualidade do vídeo está ótimo pra época

  39. 5.... W....

    Ah,...the80s. What a decade. hehe

  40. J.... G....

    lol how shitty

  41. S.... L....

The entrance alone makes up for a lackluster performance for Bowie's standards. I like his 2000s performances the most, as the genius artist he is he just got better with age.

  42. L.... P....

    Te amo David Bowie

  43. T.... B....

That was so poppy 🤩 I love it!

  44. M.... ....

It bums me out I’ll never get to see Bowie live.

Saw that concert in Rupp arena in Lexington back in 87. Historically speaking this was one of the low points of Bowie's career. Way over produced and lost his unique creativity during this period. Bowie admitted so shortly after which is why he blew it all up with Tin Machine. Still love the song never let me down which came out of this time. Still when I think of Bowie this period of his career was at a low point.

  48. W.... K....

I was fortunate enough to see Bowie many times, in every decade he performed live. This was my least favorite of all the shows.

  49. K.... ....

I still have two concert shirts from seeing him. The 1990 Serious Moonlight Tour and the Outside Tour in 1995

    K.... ....

I've got 2 programmes - more like magazines - from S.M. Tour @ (Milton Keynes),

The fact that he is SMILING, & having A BLAST warms my HEART!!
    Im SMILING the ENTIRE dhow'

And knowing he and his childhood chum, Peter Frampton, spent this time together also makes me smile.

    Oh very Dimond dogs start...

  52. G.... M....

I was at a concert at the BC Place Center in Vancouver in 1987 and just today, December 2019, I read that Peter played guitar,... with his hair. I had to be very toasted

  53. M.... K....

Haha I still can’t believe my mum gave him a rose at 39:35

  54. J.... S....

    What Great Theateracle Rock!

  55. P.... m....

If I ever grow up, I want to be just like David Bowie

    P.... m....

Don't grow up, and you will be.

  56. M.... ....

Saw The Glass Spider tour in New Orleans that year! It wasn't a concert it was a musical theatrical extravaganza!

  57. S.... E....

He was considered a joke at this stage in his career, and rightfully so. This is the epitomy of lame.

  58. J.... ....

Was brought up on Bowie music, and love most of it, but this is not one of his finest moments. Seems very dated now, very 1980's and a far too elaborate stage act and some naff dancing. Truly awful fashions and probably Bowie's worst ever hair style. Bowie is better than this. Decays into a pantomime in parts which adds nothing to the music. Enjoyed some of the Frampton solo's but he seems oddly out of place in the Bowie cast. Not the greatest sound quality either. Really glad I saw him in his Ziggy days first. For super hard core Bowie fans only I think.

  59. S.... F....

    Very 80's

  60. m.... ....

    he has i n s a n e dance skills!

  61. T.... ....

Certainly not as good a spectacle as his Ziggy and Diamond Dogs tours , in my opinion .

  62. M.... L....

    Genius ! 😅xd

  63. J.... P....

Ufff Great Bowie with Frampton lead guitar. Lots of memories that day .I was very young. The tour came to Miami.and i was there that night .INOLVIDABLE.👍👍👍

  64. N.... R....

lol, that entrance was so Spinal Tap

  65. L.... L....

Strange never to see him perform again 😢🇬🇧

  66. M.... L....

    Perrrfekt muzika,perrrfekt choreografia super!💣💣💣....

  67. j.... ....

I truly hated this show/tour. Just too over the top.

    j.... ....

For you to say you HATE anything from Bowie...you most likely just HATE your life and hate everything in general.

    j.... ....

@hottieleo73 I love mostly everything he did. I think Heroes is the single greatest song ever. I saw the Serious Moonlight tour and rate as among the very best I have seen. This concert stunk, however. It is pathetic to automatically love everything someone does. You are childish, and intellectually dishonest. You can't actually appreciate his great work if you're just gonna fawn. You'd probably love it if he made a "song" of him just coughing and sneezing, lame ass.

  68. g.... ....

Frampton did decent job filling in on SRV. Always thought he was underated.

  69. D.... j....

is this gig in the USA talk about no crush in the crowd lol, I saw this show in Manchester and my feet didn't touch the ground for about 5 hrs lol

  70. H.... G....

Is this venue the Olympic stadium in Montreal?

  71. L.... G....

god he looks ... so so gorgeous in this

  72. H.... S....

This concert was filmed in Sydney, see subtitles (with "Australia") at the end. Also available on a CD. I remember many models brought closer to the stage by the organizers, for a nicer picture.

Old Wembley Stadium UK for this One, also Genesis (Invisible Touch) 🖖🏻👍🏻👽

Saw Bowie at Wembley 87 then got tickets for Maine road Manchester three days later. Blinkin didn't stop raining in Manchester but wembley gig was epic.

    Was there at Wembley, London.

  89. B.... O....

David didn't hide shit about who or what he was. He's the King of Rock and Roll-just a different genre of it. As long as there's audio, he will reign.

  90. l.... ....

    Carlos Alomar

  91. J.... O....

I saw this at Wembley Stadium in London and I thought it was reasonably good but I've been to better concerts. Two people I know also went, on a different night to me, and left after 5 minutes - they said they thought the intro with the guy standing there doing an impression of Eddie Van Halen with his guitar was so ridiculous that they walked out.

  92. .... ....

    .... ....

Translated: It was said at the same time as David Boy's Gram Rock, but it seems that he had conveyed the musical personality of everything in a new sound to the meaning of our future faces, "the sound and its world view is infinite".
No one was in front of him. His fascination must have been obsessed with the “fascination” hidden in the dark sound! I'm happy to shake hands! I don't want anyone to imitate this sound! No, Muri Li!

  93. P.... N....

So very DB, his whole career was a series of artistic evolution. Absolutely unique, tremendous talent.

  94. i.... ....

Bowie hit his all time low from 1984-1988, and I am not a big fan of this tour, but I have to give to him that he again was a pioneer doing this kind of over-the-top-choreographed tour before almost anybodye else. He was in good voice though, especially if one considers how physically active he is during the concert. Very good version of Time.

  95. H.... W....

he sounds a lot better live than in the studio and thats rare

  96. S.... M....

C est ce qu il a fait de meilleurs mais pourquoi dit-il ne pas aimer les Musicals.

  97. J.... F....

God, Constance Marie was a sort in the '80s, she's still gorgeous now 🙂😊😍🤗❤.

  98. J.... F....

Many artists have tried to recreate the entering the stage from the ceiling, but none could do it like Bowie, rest in peace you were & always will be my favourite, one & only starman 🙂😊👨‍🎤.

  99. T.... C....

I missed the reportedly excellent 1983 Serious Moonlight show at Western Springs, Auckland, NZ- so was hoping to make up for it at final 1987 Glass Spider concert there. Maybe 40,000 people, expecting classic rocking Bowie- and what we got was overblown theatrics. In a crowd that size- the stage is a long way off and most of us couldn't follow the elaborate act, and it didn't really rock either. Well- a bit of his older stuff did- like Fame, but much of the music was more poppy or came from his recent average Tonight album. WTF?- a waste of money. When I later heard the rumor that the glass spider prop was then ceremonially burnt, it made perfect sense- nobody 'got it', enough, bye.
