Bouncing Souls, The - Burn After Writing Lyrics

Here's to you, the same chords that I stole
From a song that I once heard
The Same melody I borrowed from the void
I'd rather observe than structure a narrative
The characters are thin; the plot does not develop
It ends where it begins
It's on the screen, in paperbacks
In section 8 and cul-de-sacs
Electro haikus and drunk sonnets
Are moving me along

You cut my hair
You left red ink everywhere
Do my hands tell a story?
Is it boring?
[2x]

What I'd give to force your sigh
What I'd give to see you cry
What I'd give for your caress
To see your blue cotton dress
Balled up on the floor
Certain memories are the problem
Certain drunken lines are the shame
Seven hundred miles and four years
I can't fight the flame; it burns

You cut my hair
You left red ink everywhere
Do my hands tell a story?
Is it boring?
[2x]

Was I wishing on satellites?
Tell me how you've been doing that trick
I'm just wishing the flame away
Now I'm wishing the flame away

Bouncing Souls, The Burn After Writing Comments

True punk rock! Done it way better. Lol

Surprised the praise this cover is getting. I've been a Bouncing Souls fan for about 15 years, but this cover is less-than-stellar. I've been a fan of the Menzingers for about a month, but Burn After Writing has quickly become one of my favourite punk songs of all time. There's something missing in this cover and I just can't put my finger on it; I think it might just be the overall production/mixing of the song that is lackluster. Either way, this cover was really underwhelming to me as a long time Souls fan. I feel like they could have done a better job, but I can't really pinpoint where they went wrong here.

Casey Goodrich sounds good to me

I am surprised at your disdain for it. I think it's great. I prefer it a little bit more to the original in fact. Not everyone sees or hears things in the same manner. The original is good as well. You have to give both versions credit original and cover. Bouncing Souls do great covers. Have you ever heard their version of Avoid One Thing's "Lean On Sheena" It certainly does the original justice as well.

I totally agree. I feel like this cover takes away all the great things from the original. Did The Souls not care? Lean on Sheena proves that they know how to cover a song...this just doesn't do it for me at all.

It's a perfect cover. Two completely different bands bro, BS didnt stray from their style for it and they shouldnt have to. Not sure what you were expecting but I'm sorry you missed the enjoyment you should have got out of this.

I love the souls, but this track is just missing that "frantic" energy that makes the menzingers original take much better.

Both are great bands and deserve their recognition!
