Bonnie Raitt - Since I Fell For You Lyrics

When you just give love, and never get love,
You'd better let love depart.

I know it's so, and still I know,
I can't get you out of my heart.

You made me leave my happy home.
You took my love, and now you've gone,
Since I fell for you ...

My life has been such misery and pain.
I guess I'll never be the same,
Since I fell for you ...

Well it's too bad, and it's too sad,
That I'm in love with you ...

When you love me, and then you snub me.
But what can I do, I'm still in love with you.

I guess I'll never see the light.
I get these blues most every night,
Since I fell for you ...

Well it's too bad, and it's too sad,
That I'm in love with you...

When you love me, and then you snub me.
But what can I do, I'm still in love with you.

I guess I'll never see the light.
I get those blues most every night,
Since I fell for you ...

Since you loved me, then you snubbed me
I prayed you put no one above me
Now I'm black and blue since I fell for you

Since I fell for you, for you, yeah

Great slide guitar, voice of an angel, and a redhead!

  12. r.... ....

    As beautiful -- as profound
Pure, and tearing from Minneapolis and dear Planet Earth, as
All heartfelt sweetness cures the cats and rabbits, the flying Ted Hughes Crows
    Nest.
We will sing as well as Lerner & Lowe, We will create something more profound -
    even more Loverly.

  13. R.... R....

Claudia Schmidt covered this on her first album. She didn't have Bonnie Raitt's band, but she wound her voice around this song and held on tight.

Mix is horrible on this. Sounds like a 1 take, "Hey, we need 1 more song to fill the album and we're almost out of studio time let's try "Since I Fell For You." Everybody gather around this mic. OK who's got the top?.

    n.... ....

    get real

    n.... ....

nitetrane98 whats wrong with you!?!? who cares about the mix? this is one of my most favorite songs and versions ever! they captured their moment in time of an amazing song check your levels

    n.... ....

It wasn't recorded in a studio, it was recorded on an island in Lake Minnetonka, and they had all the time in the world. It's a 4-track recording.

  15. L.... R....

Really groovin' on Bonnie's Bluesy version of this.  Now go check out Dusty Springfield's two live versions of it.

  16. B.... Y....

    Bonnie nails it.

  17. C.... C....

This sang is so sexy and amazing no mater who sings it!

  18. s.... ....

So I like Lenny Welch's version, but I really think Bonnie does this better.  It just reaches in and grabs at my heart strings, and the instrumentation provides good accents.  I only wish the recording was a little cleaner....

@sparky992 I hadn't heard this version before now and I can't agree with the 220 thumbs up. I've always like Bonnie Raitt and I love this song but this arrangement is awful. Melodramatic at best. Some of chord changes are different merely to be different , Buddy Johnson's song is just fine as is. But the bridge is truly a disaster. The bass drum; obnoxiously up front in the mix for no reason I can detect; over plays and just when I thought 'glad that's over, now I can hear Bonnie again,' the ridiculous 4-bar 'broken-record' extension takes this track from bad to far worse. Down the back stretch, littered with the bass drum that makes me flinch every time the drummer (I doubt it was his idea to be so upfront in the mix) smacks it, things are not so bad. But I can can and hopefully will live the rest of my life without suffering through the coda again. This is an example of how an artist can be utterly sabotaged if s/he relinquishes artistic control. Has everyone really listened to the same track I just heard? Can't wait to find my 45RPM record of Lenny Welch doing this song with simple perfection, tasteful strings, no frills and a wonderful vocal.

    s.... ....

    get real

    s.... ....

I agree. Her voice is right for the song though. She should do it again with a better arrangement. It's a shame that an amazing singer and an amazing song got together and they couldn't get it right. But this was back in'71.

  19. k.... v....

I get the blues most every night.....

  20. M.... ....

Does anybody know if that is A.C. Reed on Tenor Sax?

    M.... ....

    Yes it is!

  21. T.... ....

Bonnie does this tune so well ,but check out Lenny Welsh v.good also

  22. L.... C....

Wow, Bonnie's voice has more depth and gravel to it now. But this is a good arrangement. Interesting to see how she's matured. Love her.

    L.... C....

@Ron Yates No, I haven't. But I'll definitely give it a listen. He was an incredible talent.

    L.... C....

The recording is from 1971 (before Bonnie's last several decades of maturation). She ALWAYS had lots of "depth" ~ and soul.

    L.... C....

Lenny Welch did the original (?) version. Nope, looked it up. Written in 1945, it was a hit for others 1st. LOVE BROTHER RAY.

    L.... C....

Just accidentally clicked the wrong thumb - twice. ! Totally agree. Thank you to whoever posted this...it's encouraging to hear an early rendition of this consummate performer's work. And what a great song!

    L.... C....

It was composed by Buddy Johnson in 1945 and was first popularized by his sister, Ella Johnson, with Buddy Johnson and His Orchestra. (link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Since_I_Fell_for_You)

  23. T.... ....

this song goes down extra smooth with a few sips (ok a lot of sips) of Jack Daniels.

  24. M.... J....

i love this song.. so good

  25. B.... K....

    It is simply slammin!

  26. T.... ....

I heard this song in 72' on her 1st album. I have loved her ever since.

    T.... ....

TheConsumerman YOU KNOW IT!!!! I’m right there WITH YA!! ❤️🎼

  27. M.... H....

    This is for you Garth

  28. T.... ....

No disrespect to Lenny Welsh, but Bonnie covers this song with such sweet emotion that
it makes remember it all again Kathy, Love hursts so good.

  29. P.... P....

Always thought that the tight horn section made this exciting....Must have heard this so often, never tires.
