Bobby Womack - It's All Over Now Lyrics

Well, baby used to stay out all night long
She made me cry, she done me wrong
She hurt my eyes open, that's no lie
Tables turn and now her turn to cry

Because I used to love her, but it's all over now [2x]

Well, she used to run around with every man in town
She spent all my money, playing her high class game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
Tables turn and now her turn to cry

Because I used to love her, but it's all over now [2x]

Well, I used to walk in the morning, get my breakfast in bed
When I'd gotten worried she'd ease my aching head
But now she's here and there, with every man in town
Still trying to take me for that same old clown

Because I used to love her, but it's all over now [4x]

@pretty hate metal machine Right. This *is* a cover. The original version is by The Valentinos.

    p.... h....

@hwgray Except that The Valentinos were Bobby Womack's band - when his day job was Sam Cooke's guitar player. He was mad at the Stones 'ripping off' his tune - till Cooke wised him up about the royalties he would soon be getting versus the pennies he'd earn from performing the song himself.

    p.... h....

+Boviss1 Could have been worse. Led Zeppelin could have decided to cover it. Imagine Womak's surprise, like so many others,  when he found out he hadn't actually written the song but that Jimmy Page and Robert Plant actually had. ;-)Love Led Zeppelin, they're one of the truly great bands but they were pretty lackadaisical about crediting the people who actually wrote so much of their music on their albums.

    p.... h....

lokisgodhi.........."lackadaisical" is sugar coating it and rather diplomatic, to say the least. In many cases, I think they just STOLE the tune, and usually got away with it !!! 7-19-17

  23. k.... m....

i love rolling stones, but so sad that heard the original version later

    k.... m....

That was true a lot in the early 60's. A lot of the British groups covered a lot of songs, but if it wasn't for that, I might not have discovered Jimmy Reed, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, and all the rest of the blues guys. I read he originally wrote this to be a country song.

    k.... m....

That's not the original. This is:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqRfbTX8UFU

The one above is from an album of Rolling Stones songs done by various artists.

I think he sang on the original (with the Valentinos), too. But the recording above is not "the original."

  24. F.... D....

Love y', Mick and Stones but listen, people, to the difference. It's like these lovely proper English lads covered what sounds like an authentic recounting of a real-life double-trouble relationship with which Bobby Womack may well have been firsthand familiar. Check interesting post-Sam Cooke romantic history of the Womack clan: a family of unique and abundant talent. The unique experience of the immortality of the soul is keeping the memory of the dead among the living. Your music lives on. Rest in peace, Bobby; you'll be remembered.

  25. j.... ....

    Well miss you Mr. Womack

  26. P.... A....

Yep, it's all over now but his music will live forever!

  27. S.... ....

Such a great, rockin' song. The first version I ever heard was by The Grateful Dead. He influenced a lot of different artists. RIP Bobby Womack.

  28. M.... M....

Oh Mr Womac, so sad to know that you have gone, but your music will always remain . If I thought I was lonely before, I feel like I am now that its all over ..... R.I.P

  29. E.... A....

Rest in peace Bobby. It's all over now pal ...

  30. g.... ....

    still groovy

  31. F.... P....

    R.I.P. Mr.Womack... You great man!

  32. H.... N....

Always thought that The Stones were the composers! They made an awesome cover. Thanks to both Bobby and the Rolling Sones.

  33. V.... E....

He was just only 20 years old, or even younger,  when he wrote this song,  perhaps for the lack of money at that age of 20´s,  sold it to the Rolling Stones,  but today , June 27 2014,  it´s really all over. By the way, the song i liked the most from him that i discovered recently,  is the one called "Nothing can save ya " feat. Fatoumata Diawara" Bobby Womack R.I.P.

    V.... E....

not true, he didnt sell it to the stones, his version was in charts when it was overtaken by the stones.... he was pissed off "until i saw the royalty check!"

  34. J.... H....

Yes, it's all over now but your music lives on across 110th

  35. m.... ....

    R.I.P. Bobby Womack (1944-2014).

  50. b.... ....

Bobby wrote this song what is your problem, you some kind of racist chap?

  51. L.... H....

I don't understand Bobby doing this song on this album? He's great as an artist and songwriter, no doubt, PLEASE, that's not my point, NO DISREPSECT TO BOBBY, but this is BOBBY'S OWN SONG (albeit, previously covered by the Stones) I thought this album was supposed to be blues/r&b artists covering Jagger-Richards song??
