Bobby Goldsboro - For The Very First Time Lyrics

Anywhere that you go I'll follow along
I'd be a fool to keep on singin' my own song
I never thought about love up until now
I guess it's time I started learnin' how

You smiled at me and "give in" swelled inside my mind
For the very first time
I thought of lovin' things I want them to be yours and mine
For the very first time I find myself in love
"Ain't no such thing as always" I used to say
But now that I've found you, here is where I'll always stay
You know how much I need you, I know myself
I'd rather miss you, darlin', than be with someone else

Anywhere that you go I'll follow along
Anywhere that you go I'll follow along

Bobby Goldsboro For The Very First Time Comments
  1. S.... H....

Wow Bobby has such a great voice...

  2. D.... H....

I was in high school in early 1974 when this song came out.It was summer in Australia and it was stinking hot

  3. L.... ....

This song, with lyrics or without,is hauntingly beautiful. My mom was a huge fan of Bobby in the 60's & 70's, and she introduced me to his music when I was young. His voice has the perfect mellow sound that makes you melt. This song is one of his best.

  4. D.... F....

i have loved this song for as long as I have known, it reminds me of the extraordinary heat wave in 1976 here in the UK I am also a huge fan of Honey beautiful song and l also love Watching Scotty Grow as it is my sons name Scott and I would embarrass him when I played it when he was younger. Thank you Bobby for ever time I hear or play your songs lifts my spirits

    D.... F....

The summer of '76 wow! All these years later , this song evokes so many memories of that wonderful time in the uk. makes me happy, and kind of sad, all at the same time

  5. C.... H....

I remember my first time ,it was with a 20 dollar crack whore in Detroit ,best 30 seconds of my life

  6. p.... ....

If this happened between a 16 year old girl and a 30 year old man we would be calling the cops. Why is this considered a beautiful life experience if it happens to a male? I guess I don't get the double standard. Why does any woman to begin with want anything to do with a male child who never had sex? I can't wrap my head around this one.

    p.... ....

pjgumby age 16 is legal in UK 🇬🇧

    p.... ....

pjgumby The last part of your message says you can’t understand a woman wanting a male virgin!!!!! It’s plenty of men’s dreams to have a virgin!!!
    So why not???

    p.... ....

@English Rose Does that make it right just because you want it? Maybe his first experience should have been with a woman he loved instead of the lust that he was offered.

    p.... ....

pjgumby In an ideal world you are right!!!!

  7. p.... ....

In this day and age this would be child abuse, People have been put in prison because of this. We can't have double standards.

  8. t.... ....

This song sounds even better if played on the am radio .shame songs like this don’t get made any more

  9. D.... B....

I would love this piece of music if it wasn't for the yucky words.

  10. j.... ....

I was 15 and she was 29 , I won,t be reporting her for any kind of abuse , thank you for your understanding and patience xx for ever.

  11. C.... ....

*This song took me back to 1971 as I can recall seeing the "Summer of 42" at a drive in theater.  For those of you who aren't familiar with that movie I highly suggest you find a copy of it that you might relive a time now lost yet filled with innocence.  ...In my mind this song was Bobby's best piece of work.*

  12. R.... R....

Today is June 30, 2019. A hot afternoon. The last day of June.

    R.... R....

I listen to this every year on this, the last day of June. I also watch the "Summer of '42" every year on this day. I was 32 and he was 21...

    R.... R....

@Cilleto Fox That was beautiful, Cilleto. I also had the delight of an older woman when I was 15, she was 31, and this song captures that month of June I will never forget.

  13. t.... ....

I just read that Ernie has passed away in May 2019. God bless him.

  14. r.... r....

Linda música, letra, voz magnífica. Sinto saudades de algo que não vivi.

  17. S.... M....

Cheapest video, I EVER seen in my whole life

    S.... M....

You have to realize this was 1973, when this was recorded. I was 18 yrs old when this came out. There was no videos then, this probably was prerecorded for a TV show. This was a very controversial song in 1973. I believe the song was written a few years before 1973, and the producer waited to release it. It was a great song. I'd love to return to 1973, and stay.

  18. l.... j....

    Hi Ernie
Fantastic song from a fantastic time.
I have always wondered who the woman was in the video do you have any information on her?
I remember reading in the comments a long time ago it was someone auntie.
Once again thanks for a great track.
    Lee fr London.

  19. E.... R....

I was 4 when this song charted in the UK.....I loved the music then....I love the song still....great video....so 1970s....was a great time to grow up 😁😁😁

    J.... I....

@My Gentle Pitt Bull I did love the 70s...I grew up in the 70s....I'm a child of the 60s just lol....Awesome music...great memories...Christmas was the best...everything closed for a few days and it was awesome....some things have changed for the worse. Haha clothes were fun back then...so colourful....we also made our fun back then...I'm glad I lived through that era ,😁😁😁

    J.... I....

@Jacqueline Iles I was 18 yrs old when this was a hit. It was very controversial even back in 1973. Clothes were very cool back then, love to have my long hair back. Since you're from the UK, I just found out through my DNA, I'm 35% Irish 20% English & Scottish. ALL my people came to The States before 1750, of my people in Great Britain they were from the Derbyshire area. Even though I'm an American I proud also to be British.

    J.... I....

@My Gentle Pitt Bull Im from Wales but lived in Ireland for awhile...its awesome there....have been to Scotland a few times ...loved it there too.....yes I remember this song very well but I was a very young child at the time...I loved music from a very early age lol I think my very first memory of music must have been my dad singing Nilson's "Without You" so that must have been the very early 1970s....😁😁😁

    J.... I....

@Jacqueline Iles I forgot to include Wales, is where my relatives lived too. "Without You" was early 70s loved Nilsen's music. By the way, do you know any Oxley's in your area? My mother was an Oxley.

    J.... I....

@Jacqueline Iles I just listened to your songs you posted last month. I assume that's you singing. You have a great voice. Whos that singing with you?

  21. S.... P....

Great Song!🎵😎60s 70s 80s and early 90s music is cool. I enjoy all kinds of music .🎼🎶Real Instruments Real Voices Real Music 🎹🥁🎸🎤I'm so glad I experience music like this in my life . Great Video!!! 👍❤✌🇺🇸

  22. T.... ....

I was 17 in 1973. I was a counselor at a summer camp in Minnesota. That June and July the sun really was a demon. One of my duties was to pick up supplies in a town 25 miles from camp. As I drove the camp's pickup into town on a hot day, I caught the eye of a woman. OK, she wasn't 31 but she was somewhat older and beautiful. I was bashful. Every time I came to town we met, talked and grew closer. That summer I became a man. She was a wonderful lady who gave me an incredible gift. Wherever you are...thank you.

  23. S.... T....

    Haunts me

  24. J.... ....

    A Time Capsule!

  25. D.... F....

    Great song👍🏻👏🏻🌟❤️‼️

    D.... F....

1973, memories of my old girlfriend. Right before I left for boot camp, off to Parris Island, this was playing as I kissed her goodbye. Two months later in boot camp she wrote me a "Dear John Letter" saying she was dating someone else. So that's why this song brings back sad memories.

    D.... F....

My Gentle Pitt Bull, not a good memory for this song, huh? After that, I hope you found someone great to enjoy your life with. I was a Finance Specialist in the Army as a WAC (1976-77), then I was an Avionic Mechanic in the Army in (1982-84). This song fits me somewhat because my first love was 27 years old while I was only 16.

    D.... F....

@Diane Fiske-Foy yes I finally got over her. On a "blind date" " Leap Year Night" 29 February 1980, I went out with a very cute lady. I fell in love we were married on Spring Day 21 March 1981. We've been happily married 38 years. Also thanks for your service in the Army.

    D.... F....

My Gentle Pitt Bull, glad you found someone. And thanks for your service too.

  26. C.... ....

My beautiful wife Karen----and now for just over 41 years xxx

    C.... ....

Congratulations on 41 yrs. Myself 38 yrs on 21 March 2019. Most Baby Boomers have been married 3,4,5 times. We are of the minority, 41 & 38 years.

  27. P.... R....

    110 in the shade

  28. D.... S....

Another beautiful golden oldie, do you get melodies like this anymore!. Such a beautiful song.

    D.... S....

No more music like this. Great songs in the 70s. I miss those days BUT Im so thank for my beautiful wife of 38 yrs unheard of for most Baby Boomers.

  29. K.... R....

in my top ten. A guys tune, but a much better story capturing reality

  30. K.... H....

Superb song that takes you back to the carefree seventies. This a true classic.

  31. m.... f....

I love this song sooo much

  32. w.... a....

    I love this

  33. S.... ....

Not quite a red chevrolet but a black triumph bonneville.
But the story was more or less the same.
    Oh the memories.
    Im going to cry.

  34. R.... K....

This song makes me drift away. I wish I could stay there

  35. W.... G....

The mind says yes but the body says no. I'm a young 70 yr.old. married to my wife 35 years.

    W.... G....

    That's wonderful.

  36. s.... b....

    The best song ever.

  37. G.... R....

What a classic, the piano licks were brilliant and the bass player was awsome, a great song and great memories with it.

  38. S.... M....

it was my fantasy when i was young, and it is still.

  39. p.... ....

Me too! I had sex at 16. I was abused now that I think of it. I must need therapy now!

  40. K.... C....

    Classic!!!

  41. N.... G....

    EXPERIENCING THIS WAS WOW HUH....

  42. H.... F....

personally I think this is one of the best romantic/erotic songs I have ever heard, however it is the most underrated at the same time.

  43. P.... ....

    I remember that piano bit...

  44. c.... e....

    Thanks !

  45. G.... B....

As a young fella then I wished it had been me...then probably had a wank, being the nearest I would ever get to that position...oh well !

  46. j.... a....

    Maravillosa canción de BOBBY.

  47. A.... B....

This is the version of the song I remember. Classic !

  48. j.... n....

Such a sensual song....and I'm pretty sure my son would have jumped at the chance....!

  49. c.... d....

    love it ;)

  50. p.... ....

If it happens to a male it's sweet. If it happens to a female then it's abuse. Can someone explain this to me?

  51. M.... w....

wow. that's the first time I've heard that song since the early to mid 70's when I was 5/6. I only remember it because of the piano riff. I was checking out this guys tunes after hearing broomstick cowboy on supernatural and ended up here. time well spent.

    M.... w....

Back in 1973, it was very controversial. The song was recorded several years before it was a hit in 1973, maybe late 60s or early 1970. I read the producer sat on it because it was so controversial, so he released it in 1973.

  52. M.... W....

A perfect beautiful and haunting tune bottoled up in a glass sand
    Timer.

  53. M.... B....

Then 30 years later she had to issue a tearful apology for "sexually assaulting" him, and her whole career was ruined.

    M.... B....

Mat Broomfield Sadly, yeah probably. That's the idiotic world we live in, currently. But things will be better in the future.

    M.... B....

Things can't carry on like this forever can they? Things are just crazy.

  54. c.... d....

    Hot summer Day ;)

  55. D.... M....

what a line, i'll chase the boy in you away. every young mans dream, the older woman sorting you out!!!! I love this song, always have.

  56. M.... L....

This song is absolutely superb, it makes me think of 1981 when I was 21 coming on 22 years old, but time is a river that only flows on way................Bugger LOL!

  57. M.... H....

40 (my case) years have gone by since I looked in her eye but the memory still lingers!

  58. M.... G....

Memories of the Summer of 1973, when this song was a hit. Reminds me of my girl friend that I was leaving behind before I left for Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, SC. It hurt so bad. The relationship ended, then.

  59. b.... w....

    BLOODY LOVE THIS SONG

  60. R.... C....

Bobby Goldsboro was a lyric poet here.

  61. k.... ....

I've always loved this beautiful song which reminds me of days gone by and my "first time". My wife has no sentiment, she just says the woman was a randy cow lol

  62. W.... G....

    One lucky guy

  63. n.... w....

What a song. Such a great melody and the piano hook. Fab. Great story telling. A well put together song and recording.
I was 16 in 1973 . Takes me back. Thanks for posting.
Please listen to the song " Seduction the writers".https://youtu.be/o1WcCiEui-Q

  64. D.... A....

I often play this song by Bobby, on my radio show, here in the UK, I LOVE IT!!!

  65. L.... N....

    I lived it

  66. T.... B....

The song, the woman's hair and makeup. Bobby's clothes. I'm fifteen again.

  67. D.... ....

Has an almost hauntingly, but beautiful ,supernatural quality to it, perhaps there could be a backstory to it in that the lady, He'd been seduced by was a ghost , haunting that particular stretch of the beach.

  68. P.... M....

Whatever you did for that piece of music- thank you
A brilliant piece of music after so many years

  69. A.... H....

This song means so much to me. 1984....

  70. T.... S....

I play this video every June 30. Today is like it is in the song lyrics. Hot as a demon.

  71. R.... ....

Good thing she wasn't his teacher at school, she'd be serving time no doubt. As a gay man growing up in the sixties, I had a crush on an older man and how I wish we could have had our night at the shore...

  72. R.... R....

Today is the last day of June - 2017.

  73. I.... K....

nearly the same happened to me in 1965 i was 15 she was mid thirties i thought i died and gone heaven and it happened many times we stayed friends and we did it all over again five years later great times

  74. D.... A....

When I heard this song for the first time in years, I thought maybe he was on a date with somebody that looked like Raquel Welch!

  75. S.... M....

I love those piano licks they are so atmospheric, notice how this hot sunny weather brings out fabulous 'sunny songs' even radio station programmers have hearts

  76. B.... B....

Apologies to all male Virgins over 18 years old. You are STILL MEN ok?

  77. z.... ....

To Mr. Winfrey - thank you for your wonderful insight into this gem of a song. It really is a haunting masterpiece and marvelous production. A great song that was totally out of left field for Bobby but what a classic it's become. His "Stairway to Heaven". The string arrangement sends this tune soaring... Thank you!

  78. J.... B....

Magic song , gives me tingles .

  79. J.... S....

Ernie...how AWESOME. i LOVE this song....and it is haunting. It gives me the chills. It is so beautiful AND sexy!!

  80. a.... a....

Wish I had a woman like this when i was 17.

  81. R.... C....

I apologize, Mr. Winfrey. I, at first, did not see your entire paragraph. Purely my fault. Take care.

  82. R.... C....

During '74, what turned out to be my favorite tune of the year.Still..even back then.. many hadn't heard the song because most radio stations wouldn't play it. There's its subject matter, and the line "she was 31 and I was 17". Should have been 31 and I was just 19.

  83. R.... E....

I had this exact experience in '61 in a small lakefront town in western Ohio. The experience haunts me to this day and I think of her whenever I hear this magical song.....and I hear it too infrequently

  84. S.... ....

I have loved this song from the first time I heard it. Who would have ever thought I would be the 32 y/o woman being pursued by an 18 y/o young man. I'm glad we stopped at kissing because it made our friendship endure. I was crushed when he passed away a few years back. Now I'm in my late 50s with beautiful memories to look back upon <3

  85. Z.... ....

This song and Honey by Bobby haunt me. They're such a masterpiece mix of lyrics and music. Someday I'd like to film new video clips using them.

  86. M.... ....

Haunting piano hook, so simple yet so gripping.

  87. R.... L....

Anger should never turn to violence...channel it into something positive.

  88. R.... L....

How about a song for people who have been excluded from the kingdom of heaven?

  89. E.... E....

...many years have gone by....since i looked in her eyes....but the memory lingers....youre only young once..but you remember forever...

  90. M.... ....

If that woman got pregnant he probably wouldn't of written this song.

  91. d.... r....

I was 31 and she was 17. Some would say its perverted.

  92. E.... W....

I really appreciate all of your kind comments on this mix, but as I stated before, the quality of sound on this video is pretty bad. Everyone look for the picture of Bobby in a white suit standing on a beach, in the list of videos to the right of this commentary...the sound quality is excellent and it is exactly as it sounded when I mixed the record.

  93. F.... J....

    31 people are still virgins.............

  94. K.... G....

Reminds me of a holiday in August 1973 in Newquay, England, and meeting and falling for a beautiful local girl, Sharon. Where are you now my lovely?

  95. T.... M....

i like Bobby but this song is as corny as Nebraska in August

    T.... M....

    What do you mean?

  96. L.... G....

love this song & I love summer
