Bobby Darin - Don't Dream Of Anybody But Me Lyrics

Though you vacation in Hawaii
Or go to Switzerland to ski
When you're scanning the snow covered mountain
Or fanning yourself by the sea
Don't dream of anybody but me

Though you may fly the Scottish Highlands
Or take a trip to some isle near Napoli
When you're whistling "The Campbells Are Coming"
Or humming "The Isle Of Capri"
Don't dream of anybody but me

In a cafe on the Rhine
Any place along the line
I'll forgive you when a stranger puts your little heart in danger
If his face resembles mine

When a guy at a mike in a nightclub
Begins bellowing something off-key
Won't even mind if suddenly he reminds you of me

No matter where you care to roam
Doesn't even matter whom you choose to see
Whenever your head hits that pillow
Whatever the hour may be
Don't dream of anybody but me
Don't dream of anybody but me
Don't dream of anybody but me

This song was recorded by Mel Tormé and The Meltones in 1959. It was recorded by the Basie Band as Little Darling. Neal Hefti arranged it then. Frank Foster rearranged it later on. I had the chart of it for my own band, where it said composed by Freddy Green. This recording appeared first on "This is Darin" I still have the LP.
This Is Darin was the follow-up to Darin's 1959 breakthrough LP, That's All, for which he won Grammies for Record of the Year and Best New Singer. I bought this LP in 1960. Still one of my favorites ('though he sang a little flat sometimes) it's a great album. Thanks for sharing.

Right Joey He should be given credit, I put all my CD'S in paper sleeve's to save room, & I have the CD cover somewhere, if I find it I'll check it out for Neal's Name, I was going to alphabetize everything but I am the King of the Procrastinators

I know, there are many popular songs that "borrow" melodies from classical music, but "Li'l Darlin'" was written within just a few years of this Darin song, yet I didn't see Hefti's name anywhere. (Must be "N. Hefti" on the record/album cover, no?)

That it is, the both are melodic & beautiful, some writers have added words to the classics also, check out Jackie Wilson's, Night & Alone At Last.

  11. p.... ....

The melody of this song is Neal Hefti's LI'L DARLIN, a Count Basie tune.

  12. B.... I....

Originally featured on his 1960 album "This Is Darin". Recorded in May 1959, and arranged and conducted by Richard Wess (who later wrote the theme and score for the first season of "I DREAM OF JEANNIE"- this arrangement sounds like something he might have written for the series).
