Bobbie Gentry - Steal Away Lyrics

Ooh, I gotta see you somehow
Not tomorrow, but right now
I know it's late, but, honey, I can't wait
So come on steal away

Please, steal away
Now don't start thinking
Trying to make up your mind
Everybody's sleeping so let's not waste no time

I know it's late but I can't wait
So come on steal away, baby, baby, steal away
I know it's wrong askin' this of you
But there's no other way I can be with you

If other folks, if they were to cool
Things like this we wouldn't have to do
Ooh, I won't tell, tell nobody else
I wanna keep it, I'll keep it to myself

I know it's late, but, baby, I can't wait
So come on and steal away, oh, baby, steal away
Ooh, I won't tell nobody else
I'd like to keep it, I'll keep it to myself

I know it's late, but I can't wait
Baby, baby, steal away, oh, honey, steal away
You know that I need you, baby
I just gotta see you, baby

Can't keep from thinkin' about you
I'm just to lonely without you
Steal away, oh baby
Need you, baby

Come on
Can't you steal away right now?
Right now

Great. Have you got Sweet Country from the Curb cd? Please post if you have.

As usual, a splendid reinterpretation of this tune by Bobbie in the mid- or late-1970s. The original Jimmy Hughes song came out in 1964 and was also produced by Rick Hall, who probably brought the track to Bobbie's attention as they were recording for an album that, unfortunately, never materialized.

Cool thank's for that Glenn ! Do you have any other information - especially about the Thunder In The Afternoon track by Bobbie ?

    G.... T....

"Thunder" was written by Mac Davis. I believe it first appeared on one of his albums in the mid- or late-70s. That was around the same time that Bobbie was recording several tracks for a Warner Brothers album that never came out. "Thunder" was one of those tracks, along with "Steal Away," "He Did Me Wrong, But He Did it Right," "Slow Cookin'," "Sweet Country" (a song that was originally called "Sweet Country Joe"), and the remake of "Ode to Billie Joe" that was done for the 1976 movie. Songwriter information seems to be available for all of them except for "Slow Cookin'," which I have always assumed Bobbie wrote herself.

After a bit of digging found that the lyrics to "Thunder" were actually written by Yvonne Norman and her sister Rita Grimm
