Bob Seger - Rosalie Lyrics

She's quite the mediator
A smoother operator you will never see
She'll see you later
And no one dares disobey her openly

She knows music, I know music too you see
She's got the power, the teen queen Rosalie

Rosalie, Rosalie

She's got the plastic
Comes from all the corner's corners of the world
So fantastic
She's everybody's favorite little record girl

She knows music, I know music too you see
She's got the power, she's got the tower
Rosalie, Rosalie

From Chattanooga, to good old Bogalusa
You can hear them fine
She makes her choices
And then you best be smilin' when it's choosin' time

Bob Seger Rosalie Comments
  1. A.... L....

WTF , Gorham said this sounded like a ballad , says it was real slow. This is almost as rocking as thin Lizzy's version. This ain't no fucking ballad. Scott Gorham is a moron

  2. S.... O....

I love Bob seger but this version seems very flat compared to the lizzy cover

  3. G.... ....

Thin Lizzy fan here! Phil & co. sped it up, but it was quite hard-rocking already. Wasn't expecting it to rock so much. It actually reminds me of BTO.

  4. w.... F....

Rosalie was the woman in charge of what would be played on CKLW.. big radio station back in the 70's. She could make or break a band

  5. R.... N....

While living in Columbus, OH during the early 70's, I had a girlfriend who grew up with and was best friends with Seger's first wife. She knew everyone in the band and loved the music with a passion. I didn't have the heart (or nerve?) to tell her that I didn't share her passion (for the music) and politely listened while the two of them had the occasional Seger feast. Some years later, after we went our separate ways, I caught a Seger tune on the radio that caught my immediate attention. It was Rosalie. It became an instant favorite and remains so to this day. Love everything about it, especially the hard-driving energy. If you're still listening Steph, so am I.

  6. P.... P....

Both versions are pretty damn cool!👍🎸🤟

  7. W.... A....

    I prefer Think lazzy version

  8. P.... L....

Thin lizzy does it Way better damn

  9. D.... T....

I love this just as much as Thin Lizzy's cover of it, proper bangin tune, I could blare it all night long.👌

  11. B.... E....

Thin Lizzy covered it because Phil Lynott couldn't believe Seger didn't play it live and he thought was a fantastic song.

  12. R.... R....

THE ultimate rock and roll song... nothing makes you feel finer than this damn beat!

  13. S.... T....

Anyone know why this song isn't on apple or Amazon??

  14. .... ....

    YAYYY MY NAME

  15. C.... K....

Let's be straight!!...That's Rosalie Trombley from Leamington, Ontario, Canada. Thanks Bob for the tribute to the young and beautiful superstar, from our little town.

  16. P.... M....

    A great song

  17. B.... M....

Further proof the planet is filled with morons. The number of people commenting "I never knew this was a Bob Seger song." Um, what part of "...this is a number recorded by Bob Seger...number called Rosalie" from Live and Dangerous do you not comprehend? Idiots...

  18. D.... K....

    You got to be kidding

  19. S.... A....

I love both versions . Thin Lizzy live and dangerous is an amazing cover

  20. T.... ....

Although an original Thin Lizzy fan for over 40 years now, I like this as much. Its got that rugged garage-y unpolished Detroit sound.

  21. B.... 6....

    1.25 Thin Lizzy speed

  22. C.... J....

    My first Album

  23. F.... ....

Totally understand why the Lizzy boys wanted to cover this song. Totally suits their style, fuckin love this song.

  24. M.... M....

I came here because of Thin Lizzy (today is St Pat's day) and I didn't know this wasn't a Lizzy original, until I saw the live version and Phil says this is a Seger song. So I thought I'd check it out. It's ok, but this is going to be added to my list of songs that topped the original.

  25. d.... d....

There's a cool live Motorhead version.....

  26. I.... ....

Growing up in Detroit, I was always more familiar with this version.

    I.... ....

    this is the original

  27. D.... M....

Well, well, well.. and I thought this was a Thin Lizzy original! Hahaha, but I prefer Thin Lizzy's version any day!

  28. k.... ....

Those backing singers get me every time. Stunning.

    k.... ....

kabeauregardajax : Marcy Levy a.k.a Marcella Detroit on backing vocals, I wish Bob would remaster this l.p as it's always been my favorite Seger l.p!

I saw Bobby and the S.B.B. IN 1976 trust me these boys would mop the floor with Thin Lizzy and I am a huge Thin Lizzy fan!

  30. J.... i....

Love Lizzy but Bob's voice outdoes Lynott

    J.... i....

    Well nah

  31. J.... N....

Rosalie was CKLW program directer, only song she said would not play on the BIG 8

  32. d.... ....

Just had a baby daughter and she's named Rosalie 23.7.17 may she be well, happy, safe and loved xxxx

    d.... ....

    d.... ....

    congrats!

  33. O.... G....

J Weider: thanks for the info. Good song.

  34. j.... ....

I'm 46 and am embarrassed to say I never knew this was a seger song?!? and only a couple of yrs ago I found out blinded by the light is a Springsteen song?!?! both covers are soo much better than the original in my opinion but thin Lizzy just amped it up to where it should've always been and I have zero clue how Manfred Mann made their cover of Springsteen soo different and better in my opinion and to this day is still a favorite from my youth to this day!!

    j.... ....

@jonnyjib, in case you haven't already done so, also check out Springsteen's "Spirits in The Night" by Manfred Mann/ Earthband on the 1975 album "Nightingales & Bombers" and Dylan's "Father of Day, Father of Night". Also much better than the originals..possibly defintive?...IMHO..of course!

  35. R.... d....

    Huhulll!!!

  36. M.... N....

This is so obviously a sarcastic sideswipe at Trombley. But when half deaf I used to hear
'I know music DO you see' and I think that's the better version if that's all you hear. Well that's what Thin Lizzy sing. Not sure about Seger.

  37. S.... A....

Seger's best hands down, only "Get out of Denver" come's close in the true rockers

    S.... A....

    Check out "East Side Story."

  38. S.... A....

Me and Chuckie N. in the 76' Malibu On Michigan Ave, Beer, Buddz and Bob what a time

  39. D.... ....

Back in 72 is by far the best Bob Seger album ever!

    D.... ....

the last great REAL seger release

  40. M.... B....

I was aware this was a Bob Seger song years ago but never heard it until now. Like most I am very familiar with Lizzy's version (huge Thin Lizzy fan here). I was never a big fan of this song in general but recently I've become a fan of Bob Seger, who I think is an American treasure. I like Bob's version. Lizzy's is not "better" just faster. Although I do love the live version Lizzy with Cowgirl Song which was a medley of Cowboy Song and Rosalie.

    M.... B....

Funny. I've never heard the Thin Lizzie version. But I'm from Detroit and well remember it on the radio. ( CKLW, see song Rosalie, also from this album).

  41. b.... ....

Thin Lizzy version is better. I didn't even know this was a Bob Segar song until a few minutes ago. To me, it will ALWAYS be a Thin Lizzy song.

    b.... ....

I didn't realize it was Bob Seger song either I'm a Thin Lizzy and Bob Seger fan so it's a win for me credit to Bob for writing it though it's his song even if Thin Lizzy did make it better both good versions

    b.... ....

    A great Bob Cigra song!

    b.... ....

    Love both.

  42. R.... B....

Yeah Thin Lizzy brought me here lol!!!!
But hey....this is FUCKING AWESOME man!!!!!!!!
    Neithers better, different style man.
    I dig BOTH!!!

    R.... B....

    You got it right!

    R.... B....

I came here for the same reason.

    R.... B....

You got it. Both are great.

    R.... B....

    I’d say Lizzy’s are better

  43. s.... ....

Regardless, Lizzy, Seger, Black Star Riders, a great song from a talented rocker...all versions of this song are great; even the bad ones.

  44. R.... C....

Hey! Finally a song with my name it (kinda)!

    R.... C....

    Try Thin Lizzy"s version.

    R.... C....

    wow...Finally>>>?
    my cousins are Coyles1

    R.... C....

You Put same thing on the Lizzy versions, shhhh

    R.... C....

I know the feeling. 😊 But there are a few others. The Yellow Rose of Texas gives a brief mention. And there's an old one 'Rosalie, My Darling'. By Bing Crosby

  45. C.... T....

Thin Lizzy's version of Rosalie is way better the reason is because of Phil Lynott's vocals and the 2 guitar attack

    C.... T....

Yeah but of course Seger agrees, he wrote this shit, he can say whatever he wants and he will always be right, so he give a lil props out to a band who rocked his song. Doesn't matter which version is 'better', the song is dope all ways around.

    C.... T....

I prefer the uptempo Thin Lizzy version, probably because it's the first one I heard. By comparison Bob's version just seems to d-r-a-a-a-g but TL"s just pumps along at the perfect pace.

    C.... T....

Lizzy own that song, no doubt about that. The guitars really bite and Robbo's solo soars

    C.... T....

The lady harmony vox on Seger’s version make it superior

    C.... T....

I like Phil Lynott and would agree that the Thin Lizzy version is better, although I think Bob Seger is a better singer overall and this song is held back by technical limitations, whereas Thin Lizzy was an established band when they recorded the song and didn't have those problems. I'm a fan of both Bog Seger and Thin Lizzy, though.

  46. W.... B....

    Bad audio!!

  47. a.... h....

    check hydra rosalea for cover

  48. t.... ....

So, I heard Black Star Riders do this song in NYC a few weeks ago (solid rock band, look them up). I thought it was a Thin Lizzy cover.
I mentioned how cool it was to hear them do Thin Lizzy covers to their lead singer (Ricky Warwick). He told me this was a Seger cover.

    I learned something.

    t.... ....

+tybo09 lol- ah ,briantravelman hasn't a clue , so no point gettting upset. If that's his logic he probably thinks Black Sabbath changed their name to Dio ;-)

    t.... ....

    @whitemountain apache
Side note, but still related: What makes a band still that band?

Is AC/DC still AC/DC with Axel? Were they still AC/DC with Brian Johnson?
Did Lynyrd Skynyrd still exist after the plane crash?
What about Government Mule? Were they still The Mule after Allen Woody died?

I like to think that any time you have more than half the original band, you're still that band (which BSR doesn't... but my "basically Thin Lizzy" comment was meant because they also tour as Thin Lizzy... perhaps, better wording would have been "They are basically the same guys who tour as Thin Lizzy")

    t.... ....

the thing is - thin lizzy broke up in 1983 and the main man died in 1986 putting and end to any chance of a proper reunion. There was a short Irish tour in 1991 billed as " an evening of Thin lizzy " with brian downey and brian robertson ivolved who played the live and dangerous set .Note they had respect to not bill the gigs as Thin Lizzy as such.Ac/dc never broke up and had a singer before bon scott.I'm sure those who know and love lizzy would agree that Phil was the focal point of the band ( as angus is with ac/dc ) so would ac/dc fans accept ac/dc without angus ? I very much doubt it ! I get your point about it takes more than one person to make a band , but when that person is the main songwriter / focal point etc of that band it surely puts a different slant on it.Also i would have no problem with as many ex lizzy members as possible still doing the odd tour but Gorham is the only member of bsr who actually played and recorded with thin lizzy and i personally am glad they cannot use the name for recording new material under.i do not know enough about gvt mule or skynyrd to make a proper comment on them , i do know my thin lizzy related stuff ( unlike a few others on this thread ) and members of Thin lizzy ltd and Phil's estate so i can speak with confidence on the facts there- respect for your opinion though

    t.... ....

well - the lyrical genius of Lynott certainly puts Axl and BJ in the shade doesn' t it ?Totally irreplaceable as frontman and writer . Plus ac/dc had a singer before Bon Scott - Dave Evans .completely different circumstances with regard to Lynyrd Skynrd.I have no problem with a few hired hands doing a tribute to Thin Lizzy but thank fk Phil's estate stepped in and stopped what became BSR using the Thin lizzy name on future studio albums - that would have been a total and utter disgrace had it been allowed to happen.

    t.... ....

Phil told that to the audience on Live and Dangerous in the seventies. :-)

  49. M.... S....

    Rosalie Trombley...a true goddess.

    M.... S....

+Mike Smith ... She's a real Canadian radio Icon. I'm stoaked that the Juno awards just recently recognized her contributions to the music industry. She launched the careers of so many artists (Bog Seger, Kiss, Elton John, Alice Cooper, The Guess Who) to name a few.

    M.... S....

I didn't know that.  As a teenager living in Detroit at the time, I had no idea girls could be in the music business, much less have that kind of influence. I ended up working for Warner-Electra-Atlantic for a while.  Good for Miss Rosalie, she sure deserves it. She was a role model to me, that's for sure.

  50. M.... ....

Someone told me this song was about me 40 years ago...Some people make things happen...Some people watch things happen...Some people like me say What happened? Where did the 70's go and who is this person in my mirror/...Bummer!

    M.... ....

@Magnoliahull unless youre rosalie trombley it is NOT about you!! Why would you thinknit was??

    M.... ....

    @dawn-roxanne michelle Oh honey.....

  51. R.... H....

    A good hit

  52. A.... D....

    very good rock and roll!!!

  53. B.... B....

Nothing like the ol' clear channel AM rock stations! We used to be able to listen to CKLW late at nite in Philly! This was important because it was before consultants created Boss Radio, and there were actually "regional" hits. Cool songs were a hit in Detroit that we never got in Philly, but I didn't miss out on them!

    BB

    B.... B....

@Byker Bob Wow, you got CKLW all the way to Philly? That's awesome considering it originated in Windsor, Ont. I grew up in Detroit and CKLW was stuck on all the radios everywhere you went.

    B.... B....

Bob nailed it! Rosalie Trombley definitely had the ear to spot a hit!

    B.... B....

We got CKLW on Long Island, New York.

  54. P.... T....

share my thoughts no they all lie in Jesus JENNIES & & my prayers

  55. P.... T....

Yes nothing's got 2 yer! Yet RAB"s your still damn good silver billet track find it & sister flow x

  56. K.... m....

CKLW  brings back fond memories. It' right up there with hearing Ernie Harwell call a Tiger game. Memories....

    K.... m....

This song was never played on CKLW because Rosalie said she would quit if it ever was.... but it was played on WRIF and some of the other Motor City FM rock stations

    K.... m....

    WKNR too

    K.... m....

The things that make the good old days good.

  57. D.... J....

They didnt write a song about Rosie for nothing ,   she knew how to pick the hits,    Im sure Bob is smiling

  58. u.... ....

Thanks for giving the folks a bit of history. They did a great documentary on CKLW a while back and it covered this very story. I too grew up listening to and loving "The Big 8", but we must give credit where credit is due. While the ever under-rated, "Motor City" based CKLW was loved throughout the region on both sides of the border, this "Motor City" just happened to be the one on the Canadian side of the border. Thank you Rosalie, CKLW, and, Bob Seger!

  59. M.... ....

If he was trying to get on her good side, I'm puzzled. The lyrics include some criticism of her power and, status.

  60. p.... ....

see ...I just wrote about that...I was pretty young and just starting to get into music then, but I knew I heard something like this growing up.....

  61. p.... ....

this is great...supposedly written about one of the ladies that worked at CKLW....this was a rumor going around when AM radio was all we had...anyway....supposedly got BOB music banned from the station...

  62. m.... ....

I must say i listen to the song because of thin lizzys live cover, that is great but i really like this original version. Nice strpped down 70,s cool vibe

  63. 4.... ....

CKLW in Detroit was a national powerhouse radio station. Bob Seger thought he'd get on music director Rosalie Trombley's good side by recording "Rosalie", hoping that CKLW would start playing it. Rosalie refused to add the song to the Big 8's play list and threatened to quit if anyone added it over her head. The lyrics spoke of the enormous reach of CKLW ('..she's got the power, she's got the tower", "..from 'Chattanooga' to good old 'Booga Loosa' you can hear her fine").

  64. R.... E....

killa album from da Day!!!!...Rev Eddro

  65. M.... S....

I own this album bought it when it first came out.

  66. t.... ....

I got chills...First heard this on my home-made AM radio..Seger is just 1 more reason I loved growing up in Michigan.
