Bob Seger - Makin' Thunderbirds Lyrics
The big line moved one mile an hour
So loud it really hurt
The big line moved so loud
It really hurt
Back in '55
We filled conveyors
We met production
Foremen didn't waste words
We met production
Foremen didn't waste words
We were young and proud
We were makin' thunderbirds
We were makin' thunderbirds
They were long and low and sleek and fast
They were all you ever heard
Back in '55
We were makin' thunderbirds
Now the years have flown and the plants have changed
And you're lucky if you work
The big line moves but you're lucky if you work
Back in '55
We were makin' thunderbirds
We were makin' thunderbirds
We were makin' thunderbirds
They were long and low and sleek and fast
They were classic in a word
Back in '55
We were makin' thunderbirds
We were young and proud
We were makin' thunderbirds
We were young and sure
We were makin' thunderbirds

Back when America was strong !!
Great Rock n' Roll!
Had a Galaxie 500 1964 . Came with a 390 . Auto with overdrive . Removed the 390 replaced it with a 429 . Built . Top end speed fast low hugged the road . Best thing next to girls I've known !!!
The only car I could have killed my Brother over !!
How many guys can write songs about a car production line while subtly providing a bigger, bleaker picture of the economy? Oh yeah, and he makes the song rock like hell. Pretty good, Mr. Seger.
I laughed at the hearing-aid ad at the start. WRONG CROWD for that; we just turn up the volume to "So loud it really hurts". That's about 3 levels above 11.
Anybody that did 30 and out has my respect. Tough job
I can just SEE that pianist's fingers jabbin' hard at the keyboard and the sax dude bendin' backwards while Bob is crooning (?) "We were young and strong, we were makin' THUNDERBIRDS!"
I love cruising in my '60 hardtop Thunderbird listening to this song:...
Typical Seger Fucking Great
🎸 This is rock until you realize so keep on listening and rock hard on 🎸
I am biased because I am from Michigan but always thought Bob Seger WAY better than Springsteen!
Edward Pate Spring who ? Bob Seger is the voice 🏄🏻♂️🎸🤠🥃
I’m hard boiled East Coast born and bred and prefer Seger over the Boss
Well,, Yeah
I was fortunate to see Bob in the 70's 5 times. Three times he was the warm up act and the other two he was the headliner. Every one and amazing show. You left the place and knew you had just witnessed greatness.
I like Bob too, but he's not anyway near the transformative figure Springsteen has been on music as a songwriter and performer. Even Bob would agree with that.
I thought of this song when I saw video of the last GM car rolling off the line at Lordstown...
Nice Job here. Check out My Real Mans Car. It is full of Hot Cars too.
Absolutely no one better than Bob Seger music!!😎🤙
A party took place on pontoon rafts in Western Ontario and a bunch of Yanks came up to do some fishing, I never forgot The jams this was one of the song every one was sing..
Perfect video for the song! Bod Seger had a great raspy voice.
So I came here again to hear THIS fantastic song and I'm greeted by a commercial for Lexus SUV. Ironic, ain't it? But not in a fun or good way.
Wayne Cameron Lex-us snooty Brit bitch on commercial says and I quote,"its the gift that keeps giving" LIKE HERPES!! ITS THE LIKEN OUR PRODUCT TO STD SEE IF THOSE ASSININE YANKEES WILL BUY EM UP ad campaign..bahahahamotherfuckingha
Autos más rock 'n' roll que mejor combinación.
Great driving music. This one, like most of his fast stuff, could easily set me up for a speeding ticket out on the interstate.
GREAT song! Michigan Muscle, baby!
Great car. Took a lotta gas, but not as much $ as today.
stupid. build original , not custom, dumbass
He(Bob) originally had a video of an actual assembly line that accompaned this song.
I recently bought a 1966 thunderbird. Fuckin thing is built like a tank. Must have been a real top shelf car back in the day, and if you ask me, it still is!
I kind of forgot about Bob for while. Damn he's good.
I've seen Bob twice. He hauls the mail. So does Ford.
i loves rangers and mustangs.
My god father was an antique dealer in Detroit and he had every color 55 56 and 57

Back when the union meant something and Michigan is still the union state
I'm a more of a Cadillac guy, but I can't help with this song. Fuck yeah.
EXactly. Just as classicseacraft said "all of his songs bring me back to special times in my life." Bob Seger paints memories of our fun times. "and it was summertime" Night Moves, "What did you win, what did you lose" -Boomtown Blues-
In my option the best Thunderbird is -55 model.
Jack of Helsinki 1973 model is my favorite
I loved the 85 Bill Elliott edition!! :)
Excellent rocker by Bob Seger and nice video, thanks!
My dad always bought Fo Mo Co..We had Fairlaines, Galaxies, Torinos, an LTD, F-150s.. When I was a kid, my Dad test drove a 70 GT500. Biggest thrill of my life. He had no intention of buying it, he just wanted to take one out for me. My Dad never owned a new car in his life, he was too frugal. I got an 07 GT500 now, everytime I drive it I think about him fondly. RIP Dad.
Gm was making corvettes

Myself I am Chevy all the way. The last time I had a ford the doors rusted shut I had to clime in and out of the windows. Than the power steering box rusted off. Took it in to have it fix the guy told me to get rid of it cause the floor broads was just about to rust throw. lol I knew I should have never bought it off of my sister. Never trust family.
Sheila Davis T-Birds ran circles around GM's Corvette until 1961.
My sister had one

If you think this is just a song about American cars you're missing the bigger point.
plants have changed and the plants have closed and you're lucky if you work. haunts us to this day
I'm not a huge rock and roll fan, but I think this is an awesome song!
I am not a huge fan of Rap and drive-by's but oh why not?
"Bird is the word..."
How can you not love rock?
This is the best song Bob Seger never released as a single.

Made by the people for the people.
America!
We were "Makin' Thunderbirds" at Lorain Assembly for 17 years until they discontinued them in 97. This was one one my favorite songs when it came out!
@Rick, hey Rick I always thought they were made at either Dearborn or Wixom? I have a '70- 2 door coupe, can you tell me where that one was made please.
Those were great times.. When the Econoline and Cougar were made there as well, Vermilion and Lorain, Ohio thrived!!!!
Aint this the best?!
It's amazing to me that this song actually gives me good memories about working on the line in summers. Seger forever.
@Successor123
PS I'm 52 years young!!
What? No WRIF bumper sticker in a Bob Seger/T-bird video? Heretic! LOL
@Fastronald I just bought another Super Coupe five speed....a 94'
the fabulus bob seger thank you merci
This is a great song,and was a great time in America.In 66,I bought a 56 T-Bird for $600.00 ,stuck a 390 in it. Damm! that was a fast car.Sold it for $800 a few years later.
If only I had it now,it would be my retirement, that along with the 62 Chevy Impala 409 I sold for 1200.Who knew then that they would become so valuable.
This song and Boomtown blues were awesome and made me proud to be American. Seger is a master with lyrics, all of his songs bring me back to special times in my life.
classicseacraft 👍😎
Very good! Another of my favorite songs that you just don't hear anymore. Thanks for putting this on and please dont remove it.
I LOVE this song, my Thunderbirds are a 92' a 94' and a 95'
The Thunderbird is the car that made me want to be a mechanical engineer!
Thunderbird's are the ULTIMATE classic rides! No doubt about it!
@taran155 Oh yea this is what they call a good old fashion rock and roll rivival...
a tribute to american made cars
The way I heard it, the song title came from a conservation Seger had with a group of retired autoworkers. When he asked them what they remembered from the 50's, one of them said "We were making Thunderbirds, buddy".
gets you going!!! makin thunderbirds
