Bob Dylan - Tell Me, Momma Lyrics

Ol' black Bascom, don't break no mirrors
Cold black water dog, make no tears
You say you love me with what may be love
Don't you remember makin' baby love?
Got your steam drill built and you're lookin' for some kid
To get it to work for you like your nine-pound hammer did
But I know that you know that I know that you show
Something is tearing up your mind

Tell me, momma
Tell me, momma
Tell me, momma, what is it?
What's wrong with you this time?

Hey, John, come and get me some candy goods
Shucks, it sure feels like it's in the woods
Spend some time on your January trips
You got tombstone moose up and your grave-yard whips
If you're anxious to find out when your friendship's gonna end
Come on, baby, I'm your friend!
And I know that you know that I know that you show
Something is tearing up your mind

Tell me, momma
Tell me, momma
Tell me, momma, what is it?
What's wrong with you this time?

Ohh, we bone the editor, can't get read
But his painted sled, instead it's a bed
Yes, I see you on your window ledge
But I can't tell just how far away you are from the edge
And, anyway, you're just gonna make people jump and roar
Watcha wanna go and do that for?
For I know that you know that I know that you know
Something is tearing up your mind

Ah, tell me, momma
Tell me, momma
Tell me, momma, what is it?
What's wrong with you this time?

Bob Dylan Tell Me, Momma Comments
  1. D.... J....

as everybody knows by now, not Royal Albert Hall but some hall in Manchester

  2. P.... S....

don't throw your love away for just a kiss!

  3. J.... B....

Can you imagine this in 1966!
This man is absolutely brilliant and way, way ahead of all of the rest.

  4. R.... ....

And to think I had the great privilege to see Bob perform many times. Sometimes fate has a way of smiling down upon you.

  5. T.... B....

And that 9 lb hammer is just a little too heavy for my size, for my size - why would I get a jackhammer? Are you talking about my vibrator in public again Bob?

  6. T.... B....

I mean, you are the one who asked for it Bob- is this not correct? But if you already knew what happened, why did you ask?

  7. m.... n....

He did it to boo's all the way around the world for an entire year.....damn , what a role model.

  8. R.... A....

    This sounds like Donovan

  9. N.... K....

Can someone help me and tell me what he is saying at 1:39 to 1:47 please ? All the lyrics I can found are different -_-

  10. D.... B....

I just think of a riot with this song. Before Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Metallica ad many bands more that followed the rebel line, before all them was Bob Dylan yeah

  11. S.... P....

Such an underrated song of his! Probably my favorite rocker of his. I just get goosebumps from Robertson's solo at 2:50.

Yes, you got your steam drill,
now you're lookin' for some kid
To get it to work for you

Something is tearing up your mind.

    Tell me, momma,
    Tell me, momma,
Tell me, momma, what is it?
What's wrong with you this time?

Black sun-glass [came here, pony run] *)
Tombstone babes, y'all can get it done
Fool's gold in your teeth and cementary hips
Get outside of your graveyard lips
    Yes, everybody's wonderin'
    when your friendship's gonna end
But come on, baby, I'm your friend!
And I know that you know that I know that you show
Something is tearing up your mind. **)

That ain't he can't get it, he's almost dead.
Everybody sees you on your window ledge
How long's it gonna take for your to get off the edge
You just gonna make everybody jump and roar
Now, whatcha wanna go and do that for?
For I know that you know that I know that you know
Something is tearing up your mind.

  19. T.... M....

    Electric. ⚡

  20. A.... W....

it really says something about the talent and infuence of bob when people got so angry about his change in direction there has never been another artist that faced that kind of hostility for a change of musical style. it's crazy this music brilliant music faced so much disdain but at the same time the 1966 live recordings are some if not thee most sought after live recordings ever. who thought 1966 mono soundboards would sound that good.

    A.... W....

    It's the first 'punk rock'.

  21. T.... D....

    Exquisite

  22. S.... c....

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHAA I'M JUST SO GLAD TO BE ALIVE LISTENING TO BOB DYLAN'S SONGS

  23. N.... P....

The opening strumming by Dylan reminds me of "Traveling Riverside Blues" by Robert Johnson. Anyone else hear it or is it just me?

    N.... P....

Wow, you're spot on! No doubt he was inspired by Johnson.

  24. T.... O....

    Cooooooooooooool!!!

  35. k.... ....

I love how bombastically in your face this opening track is, this live album in particular is great because the entire time you can feel the ''I don't give a fuck'' energy coming from Bob and the band about how so many people would not accept change.

    k.... ....

    Well put, my friend.

  36. R.... M....

For my money Dylan was at his very best with The Band behind him. Pity they didn't make more studio albums together.

  50. N.... U....

I wish he would've recorded this and put it on Blonde On Blonde

    N.... U....

There just should be no wishing or needing for other tracks to be added on to Blonde on Blonde, it is his greatest masterpiece? dont get me wrong Highway 61 is genius too but Blonde on Blonde is poetically, musically and just a fucking masterpiece.
Adding anything else to that album would be like a banquet being added to the table in Van Goghs Potatoes!!!

    N.... U....

that's exactly why he didn't! lol

    N.... U....

I completely agree with you, I wish this were released on some album. If not Blonde, something!

    T.... B....

I can't wait for the day they release a full documentary of the '66 tour. They have hours of HQ color film. It's just a matter of time!

Now I want bootleg on N.E.T.. Stop '60.

    D.... T....

Finally someone says that! All of the 60s recordings are in intertnet for years! A NET HQ album would be amazing!! Or the entire concert from Hard Rain on a DVD set. Or the Christian era. Or the tour with Tom Petty. Or anything different. He always was against been chain to an era or a decade, and all this and the bootleg before are doing that. Stop SONY, stop.

    D.... T....

Was this version of this song on the Internet for years?

    >All of the 60s recordings are in intertnet for years!

    Ignorance is so trendy! ;-)

Previously unreleased soundboards, 8 new soundboards not previously in public circulation, specifically:
    Belfast (1 song previously released)
    Birmingham (1 song previously released)
    Bristol
    Cardiff
    Edinburgh
    Leicester
