Bob Dylan - Mozambique Lyrics

I like to spend some time in Mozambique
The sunny sky is aqua blue
And all the couples dancing cheek to cheek
It's very nice to stay a week or two
And fall in love just me and you.

There's a lot of pretty girls in Mozambique
And plenty time for good romance
And everybody likes to stop and speak
To give the special one you seek a chance
Or maybe say hello with just a glance.

Lying next to her by the ocean
Reaching out and touching her hand
Whispering your secret emotion
Magic in a magical land.

And when it's time for leaving Mozambique
To say goodbye to sand and sea
You turn around to take a final peek
And you see why it's so unique to be
Among the lovely people living free
Upon the beach of sunny Mozambique.

My favorite is Isis, but I do love Mozambique.

The island sound was all the rage then & even Bob couldn't resist using it. Only a risk taker should ever visit that region of the world.

Bob Dlan is like an encyclopedia of music, any matter you remember has already been approached by one of his songs. This one is dedicated to my beloved homeland and it is included ine one of his best electric phase records, Desire, released in 1976, one year after I left Mozambique. I have listened to the álbum soon after and I fel in love for this song. Great music, composed, written, played and sung by a genius, Mr. Robert Zimmerman, deservedly awarded with Literature Nobel Prize in 2016, the 113rd writer to be recognized with the Nobel prize.

The problem with traveling anywhere is that you always leave some little piece of your heart behind, wherever you travel to. On some levels I hated Boise Idaho and Argentina, but then on others I really miss it- and it is that way with everywhere you go. Mexico City is a death trap waiting to happen but I would fly there tomorrow if I could just to ride more places on the subway I've never been. Even in the heart of Buenos Aires I was at some fruit market, a hole in the wall shop- and while the lady talked to another customer her four or five year old daughter came over to me and started touching my skateboard, so I put it on the ground for her. She stood on it while I stopped the wheels from rolling with my shoes, and it was like the greatest moment of her life thus far. Finally her mother saw her daughter on the skateboard and quickly got the fruit I wanted before something bad happened, but it was still one of the greater moments in my life thus far too.

  30. G.... W....

Why is this never on any best of CDs?

    G.... W....

George Williams yea it’s sad. desire is up there with highway 61 or blonde on blonde. a true masterpiece.

  31. T.... B....

I was in Buenos Aires ahead of the G20 summit by a couple weeks, and while I was there I saw guards outside of the police station right by the Japanese Gardens downtown in black ski masks and carrying machine guns. Right next to them on the street were two huge armored vehicles parked there that said, "CHINA AID". It was the only time I've even seen masked soldiers- even in Mexico City at a public demonstration at Zocalo they weren't like that. Why would they need to hide their identity? The ICBC- Industrial and Commercial Bank of China- apparently does fairly well there in Argentina and has branches everywhere because no one trusts their own government- especially with their money for good reason.

  32. D.... M....

    Always loved this joyous number

  33. T.... B....

And then I somehow found myself in Brazil without a visa talking to a bunch of young people in an English class about how great Bob Dylan was after they asked me what my favorite band was. They were nonplussed. They were like, "Don't you know any Brazilian music?" They also wanted to know all about themselves- not really anyone else in the world- but other people's perception of them, it didn't matter that I just skateboarded across the border from Uruguay and I had only been to two parks in Brazil whose only amenities included hot dogs. I was trying to skirt around the fact that I was also there illegally.

1994 was het laatste tijd dat ik die liedjes hoorde. Prachtig

As a kid I dreamt of 'dark' Africa, such luring names as Moçambique, Bechuanaland (Botswana now), ... Dylan's Desire was my favourite album, still is. I managed to get a job there in the 1990s, the first time I saw Mozambique was from the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe, the Bvumba Mountains 'in the mist'. Later I went there many times, the Paradise Islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago, Ilha de Moçambique, a country devastated by war, and now a cyclone. Some visits were 'illegal' as it was possible to cross the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique without problem (in such places as Marumbini, Chimanimani, Crooks' Corner, ... ), although I was once arrested in a place called Chiqualaquala for border hopping, was not my fault but that of the Zimbabwean officials. I escaped death a couple of times in this country, which at the time was considered the poorest nation in the world: a serious bout of malaria in Nampula, a near-fatal motorbike accident on the 'Gun Run', dodged a 'very close call' elephant attack (a bull elephant with bullet wounds) at Mavué-Massangena. I was often thinking of this song, had it played out loud in a place called Xai-Xai, where poor quality 'bootleg music cassettes' could be bought (mentioning Bob Dylon on the cover) at an Indian store. And yes, there are lots of pretty girls in Mozambique, living under an aqua-blue sunny sky. Met an American woman at Clovelli Lodge in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, who asked me 'How is Mozambique, is it like the Bob Dylan song??'. Little did she know that in my music collection I have more than 300 copies of the 7' of this song, which is crazy and nothing to boast about at all. Just managed to buy a huge batch of the Portuguese pressing of this song, an old stock, vinyl that was never played, and just hang on to them for some reason, just for fun I guess. I must have played this song 1000x or more, and still counting. Just sayin'.

My Dad RIP. Turned me onto Desire and Dylan many years ago. I love this track and the likes of Black Diamond Bay. Widened my music genre massively. But Mozambique has a special place, time and story in my heart.

"Widened my music genre massively." Same here. I remember my 1st time really sitting down and listening to Dylan with other musician friends (just like in Bob Dylans Dream!) and Yeah...it was like discovering a whole new solar system!!! Ive also been very fortunate to see Dylan Live many times over the years! My sons want to go with me to his next show. I need tix...at The (newly restored) Met here in Philly in April!!! I could sit and talk Dylan for hours, just like "someplace back in that room again!"

Robert Michael my DAD saw him in the 70s then the late 80s. They saw him go on his tour bus and people stood around it with there hands on the bus praying. Mad days.

Bit of advice. I purchased 2 tickets for my Dads blind brother and his son to see Bob at the Echo Arena LIVERPOOL 2017. Dads brother said due to age etc the actual concert was four out of ten. Very disappointed man but he said he got to hear him live 👍🏻. So before you spend good earned money. Check out his most recent live performance as he has not got the Bob voice that millions fell for.

@Angus Young I think the last time I saw him was in the 90s. Natalie Merchant opened for him at Stabler Arena in Allentown Pa.

He was rough then too! lol. I just think it would be cool for my sons to get to experience him live, with me, before the opportunity is gone forever.

Robert Michael exactly what our Kenny said when he heard he was playing Liverpool 👌🏻

Good luck and never stop listening

Hope you and your family enjoy

So many great albums and just about every song on Desire is remarkable. I could never pick a favorite album or song. I've listened since the 60's and there are to many great songs, lord above, to pick one or even a couple. Love Bob with all my heart, along with all his songs !!!!!!!!!!!!!
