Bob Dylan - Lay Lady Lay Lyrics

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Whatever colors you have in your mind
I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine.

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Until the break of day, let me see you make him smile
His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean
And you're the best thing that he's ever seen.

Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you.

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead
I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you in the night
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead.

What does Bob Dylan think about freedom today? Did his generation get anything accomplished or is it now up to us young folk. Do we young folk even know what to fight for? Socialism? No!
Self governance? Yes! Takes a virtuous people to self govern. Look in the mirror if we want change. No public servant can save us.

    51 years later!! Such talent!!

  7. L.... K....

I didn’t know bob Dylan sang this? I just heard it on an oldies channel. I told my daughter I hadn’t heard this song in 30 or 40 years. Its funny how some old songs are still played on adult contemporary or whatever, and some aren’t played anymore. Hard to believe how old I am, listening to oldies on AM, so much better than everything else on radio strangely. 53 years OLD, lol!!! Memories are the only comfort. Memories of Kobe, and oldies.

  8. J.... A....

    Bob Dylan. Voz inconfundível .

Notice the play symbol in middle of picture ...

  10. J.... D....

I had the 45 of this as a kid. I played it over and over until I had to buy 3 more copies with my allowance. I wore them out too and bought more Bob Dylan music and then became a radio announcer so I could play this over and over for millions of people so they could dig it too.

Dedicated to Anna Wiszniewska whom i tried tell her this was the only good Bob Dylan song but she wouldn't listen to me.

  26. R.... S....

Exhibit A for all those detractors who insist Dylan can't sing.

My husband passed away a year ago. "I long to reach for you in the night" never really meant anything to me, I just loved the song. But those words are so touching. There's no sadder feeling than waking up, in the middle of the night and remembering he's not there anymore.

    o.... ....

You've never woke up next to big buba with your arse like a coffee cup

    o.... ....

I am so terribly sad to see your comment. I still have my wife of over 50 years and cannot imagine the pain you feel. Thank you for giving this amazing song real meaning. God bless, we are all sharing your sorrow. You are in all our prayers.

Reminds me of Camping with my dad in early 70's, he had long hair on the sides a moustache, I had a bowl haircut and bell bottoms, I was only 4 and we stared at the campfire this was playing over the little radio. Simpler times for sure.

    M.... W....

    lovely memories <3

  36. A.... B....

My son was recently singing this song while walking around the house, I asked him where he knew it from. He never listens to my old records but I have quite a collection. Turns out he has his friends over every odd weekend to drink beers and listen to music - MY music - while I work the night shift. I thought he was having a girlfriend, was I wrong. :)

    A.... B....

That's why I love youtube, to read such lovely comment

  40. S.... H....

a good lesson for american women who coined the word "SEXIST" into the mainstream...

  41. O.... D....

I love this song so much when it came out I got the album right away. I still have it years later. I had bought a queen brass bed to fantasize in my sleep that I was the woman in the song. The long-term marriage wasn’t that good and ended, but Bob Dylan‘s lay lady lay works for me. I did not need to keep hearing the song anymore Once the right man came along. The fantasy became reality. I go back to the song at times just to see what it let up to. Destiny is a beautiful thing Like many of Dylan songs.

  42. S.... A....

This spng ,remember one movie of far west.

the 442 F tards who ve disliked it, deserve to be body-slammed lmao

in this song, Kris Kristofferson, who was working as a janitor in the studio at the time, was enlisted to hold the bongos in one hand and the cowbell in the other.

  48. N.... W....

To me, this song is the first summers I didn't go back to my parents home in college. Quiet and peaceful times flushed down the toilet into yuppie hell. Hey, thanks Business majors! You're really full of life aren't you?

  49. W.... M....

Essa música me faz sentir saudade eu nem sei bem do quê

  50. M.... A....

  53. J.... C....

Been years since I've listened to this song, and suddenly, it seems like such a perfect song to use at a wedding reception, for the new couple's first dance.

  54. S.... B....

    And he can sing 🎶🎶🎶

  55. R.... V....

    Inefável!!

  56. G.... M....

    Translation according to Gooogle:
The earth kept me under my spell
    but I knocked up there.
Because what I was offered here
that made me so tired and weak.
    So scared, despondent and twisted,
how the good spirit is gone.
There are lots of false comforters,
    to displace real comfort.
    The insanity, unfortunately programmed,
    until nobody gets it here.
The soul cold, the stove fires
with everything that is taxed here.
    Illegals come in too
then it will heat up by itself.
Instead of heat, the stove donates cold
    under the big sky tents.
We heat up, we are not happy
there is only straw in our heads.
Jesus never wants to force us
love should succeed here in freedom.
But because freedom is called freedom
    we ran from God.
And want to be gods yourself
    can rat catchers also free?
From politics to the media world
    Jesus was canceled.
    Even clergy in large quantities
    submissively pushing the zeitgeist.
    Prayer and penance, humbly ask
    you'd rather see porn tits.
    Cold, endless cold,
    Brutality, no turning point.
    Say a little prayer today,
so that God's consolation will blow you around soon.

  70. b.... ....

For some reason my mind returns to Our Family relocating to Chicago from Bessemer, Alabama in December '66. But I recall living in the 2800 Block of Lexington on the West Side in 1969 listening. It's amazing how Your main recall Friends who have gone on but You're still here. I even had one guy look me up to tell me the word had been put out that somebody had 'Took Me Out!' I loved music from the time Mom used to teach us to sing off the radio in the early '60s. Listening to WLS-AM Radio in '69 probably had those around me thinking I had lost my mind. My Brother joined the Army in '69 when He turned 21. He was a Medic in Vietnam and it messed His mind up. GOD BLESS!!!

  71. D.... J....

My x and I were on one of our many road trips long ago, and this tune was on one of my mixed tapes I brought along to listen to. When she heard this come on she goes," oh! I love, love, love this song!", And I'm like, "yeah, Dylan did this tune justice", she's like,"this isn't Bob Dylan!", I'm like," you wanna bet?" Didn't believe me, never did, I called her Tom, (reference to doubting Thomas). Shes 2 years younger than I am. I have a pretty vast knowledge of music. Always a strong suit I had. " She finally says, Well I may not know alot about music like you do, but I know for fact this isn't Bob Dylan. I think your wrong" So we waited for the end of the song, hoping the DJ would say the artists name, like they never do when you want them to, but surprise! This time he did, "ah, the great classic sound of the great, Bob Dylan, Lay, Lady, Lay." I looked at her and she just goes,"oh, you think your soooo smart eh?" Yes, I do! Because with certain things I am, as with some men. And women like my wife are equally as smart, just not with some of the same things as men are. It evens out though eh?

    D.... J....

What the fuck are you rambling on about? You don't get an award for knowing this was Dylan, you get an award for being a dumbshit for not.

This brings me back to the summer of 1969, One hot muggy summer night I woke up around 2:00 a.m. It was a full moon and I heard this song playing on the radio in my brothers' room next to mine, the song so beautiful and haunting set a mood I will never forget. Every time I hear this song it brings me back to that night when I was very young and full of hope.
