Bob Dylan - I'm Not There Lyrics
Things are crashing down
She's all too tight
In my neighbourhood
She cried both day and night
I know it because it was there
It's a milestone
But she's down on her luck
And the day makes her lonely
But to make it hard to buck, now and then
I believe that she'd stop him
If she would start to care
I believe that she'd look upon
His side that used to care
And I'd go by the Lord
But I don't belong there
No I don't belong to her
I don't belong to any body
She's my Christ-forsaken angel
But she don't hear me cry
She's a lone-hearted mystic
And she can't carry on
When I'm there, she's all right
But she's not when I'm gone
Heaven knows that the answer
She don't calling no one
She's the way, forsaken beauty
For she's mine, for the one
And I lost her, hesitation
By temptation as it runs
But she don't holler me
But I'm not there, I'm gone
Now I'll cry tonight
Like I cried the night before
And I'm knees on the hassle
But I'll dream about the door
It's so long, she's forsaken
By her faith, worse to tell
It don't have contonation
She smiles, fare thee well
Now when I treat to leave 'er
I was born to love her
But she knows that the kingdom awaits
So high above her
And I run a better race
But it's not too fast still
But I don't perceive her
I'm not there, I'm gone
Well it's all about diffusion
And I cry for her veil
I don't need anybody now
Beside me to tell
And it's all affirmation
I receive but it's not
She's a lone-hearted beauty
But she's gone like a spark
And she calls
Yeah, she's gone like the rain
Below the shining yesterday
But now she's home beside me
And I'd like her here to stay
She's a lone, forsaken beauty
And it don't trust anyone
And I wish I was beside her
But I'm not there, I'm gone
Well, it's too hard to stay here
And I don't want to leave
It's so bad, for so few
See, but she's a heart too hard to need
It's alone, it's a crime
The way she mauls me around
But she don't fall to hate me
But tears are gone, a painted clown
Yes, I believe that it's rightful
Oh, I believe it in my mind
I've been told like I said one night before
Carry on the cryin'
And the sole gypsy told her
Like I said, carry on
I wish I was there to help her
But I'm not there, I'm gone

"If you ever are feeling depressed, just remember the world is 4 billion years old and you were lucky enough to be alive at the same time as Bob Dylan."...his mother's son I'm Not There is a 2007 musical drama film directed by Todd Haynes and co-written with Oren Moverman. It is an unconventional biopic inspired by the life and music of American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Six actors depict different facets of Dylan's public personas: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger (his final film to be released during his lifetime), and Ben Whishaw. A caption at the start of the film declares it to be "inspired by the music and the many lives of Bob Dylan"; this is the only mention of Dylan in the film apart from song credits, and his only appearance in it is concert footage from 1966 shown during the film's final moments.
The film tells its story using non-traditional narrative techniques, intercutting the storylines of seven different Dylan-inspired characters. The title of the film is taken from the 1967 Dylan Basement Tape recording of "I'm Not There", a song that had not been officially released until it appeared on the film's soundtrack album. The film received a generally favorable response and appeared on several top ten films lists for 2007, topping the lists for The Village Voice, Entertainment Weekly, Salon and The Boston Globe. Particular praise went to Cate Blanchett for her performance, culminating in a Volpi Cup for Best Actress from the Venice Film Festival, the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, along with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination.
Thank you Tom Dale for you reminder, I saw a few years ago, but the film was speaking to me more on today´s watching. Very nice film. Cate Blanchett was great!
the picture is Bob's mom "Beatty" i saw Dylan and the Band in Seattle in the "70's" the forever tour...Dylan's mom was there and Bob put the light on her, she was dressed to the teeth in fur and diamonds (this could be just what i think i saw)
@Tom Dale
Thanks for your words Tom Dale, son's concert is really festive event...
This is the last Dylan song I came to know, amazing it is the best. So much to beat and it did.
Mr Mumbles at his mumbling best with one of his mumbling masterpieces which will go down in the anals as a mumbling, metronomed masterpiece, a mumble for the ages, if you will. Great fucking mumble.
"If you ever are feeling depressed, just remember the world is 4 billion years old and you were lucky enough to be alive at the same time as Bob Dylan."
This quote says it all about this man's genius and his amazing life. This song is brilliant. I am so glad I have discovered it :-)

THE IMMORTAL MASTER
a genius doesn't have time to fix their hair, too busy making real art like this. should have been on an album.
But, I'm not there..
💘
he sounds depressed enough to jump in front of a train. bless ur heart, bob, i feel ur pain. sometimes life/love is a real drag.
if u let ppl treat u like a doormat, they will. sometimes we love ppl more than they love us. if someone doesn't love/care about u, then treat them the same way. i have learned this from experience. i don't have real friends in my hometown, i relate more to ppl on here. insightful and honest and oftentimes funny. it is refreshing 2 read everybody's comments, it makes me feel less alone. i love that about you tube
Christy Spencer The one that is so terribly sad is You’re a Big Girl Now from the Blood on the Tracks album.
that gem was hidden for so long>>>>
Now I'll cry tonight, like I cried the night before
And I'll feast on the highs
And I'll dream about the door
What a beautiful sad song. Dylan you have a lot of heart and soul! Thank you for this gift of yours.
Great unfinished song. Would have been great if he had finished the lyrics properly and released it as a finished song at the time
I'm Not There
Well it's alright and then she's all the time
In my neighbourhood she cried both day and night
I know it cause it was there
It's a milestone but she down on her luck
And the day makes her lonely but to me hard to buck
I believe
I believe where she stopping where she wants time to care
I believe that she'd look upon deciding to care
And i go by the lord in ways she's on my way
But i don't belong there
No i dont belong to her
I don't belong to anybody
She's my prize foresaken angel but she don't hear me cry
She's a long hearted mistress
And she can't carry on
When im there she's alright but she's not when i am gone
Heaven knows that there's an answer
She's not calling no one
She's away sailing beautiful
She's mine for the one
And i lost her hesitation
By temptation less it runs
But she don't holler me
But i'm not there i am gone
Now i've cried tonight
Like i cried the night before
And i'll feast on her eyes
But i dream about the door
So long jesus savior
Blind faith where the tale?
It don't hang proclamation
She's my own far thee well
Now i went out neath the levee
I was born to love her
But she knows that the kingdom
Waits so high above her
And i run but i race
But its not to fast a slim?
But i ll not deceive her
I'm not there i am gone
Well it's all about confusion as i cry for her veil
I don't need anybody now be side me to tell
And it's all information i can see but it's not
She's a lone hearted beauty but she's gone like the spot
And she wants
Yes she's gone like the rainbow that shining yesterday
But now she's a home beside me and i'd like to here her stay
She's a cold forsaken beauty and it don't trust anyone
And i wish i was beside but i am not there i am gone
Well its too hard to stake in
And i don't bother me
It's all bad for abusing
But she's hard too hard to leave
It's alone it's a crime
The way she wont be around
But she told for to hate me
But this long forsaken clown
Yes i believe that it's rightful
Oh i believe it in my mind
I've been told like i said when i before carry on the crying
And she's all good to told her
Like i said carry on
I wish i was there to help
But i'm not there im gone
Haunting
you get an avant-garde group like Sonic Youth covering Dylan and it's great then you hear Dylan do the same tune and Dylan is fresher and newer at every listening than any who ever covers his songs; it's truly an anomaly and just goes to show that life shows up in all its newness and mystery and there really is no explanation that fits, and there are those rare ones like Dylan who can live it fresh and new and receive that spark and enunciate it to the world
you're beautiful jungastein. thank you for your words. much love, brother.
He is a once in a hundred years. I feel privileged that I know this.
It's a gift!
Well put. Dylan is a gift; incomprehensible to mortals like us.
right, it took decades to realise, but Dylan actually IS a great singer - the other thing is that, like for example the great avangarde jazz musician Sun Ra, he never performed one of his piece the same way
Magnificent
