Bob Dylan - Hard Times Lyrics

Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears
While we all sup sorrow with the poor
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

'Tis the song, the sign of the weary
Hard times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door
Oh hard times, come again no more.

While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay
There are frail forms fainting at the door
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

'Tis the song, the sign of the weary
Hard times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door
Oh hard times, come again no more.

There's a pale drooping maiden who toils her life away
With a worn heart, whose better days are o'er
Though her voice it would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

'Tis the song, the sign of the weary
Hard times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door
Oh hard times, come again no more.

'Tis the song, the sign of the weary
Hard times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door
Oh hard times, come again no more.

Fuck you to the people who thumbs downed this clip!! 🖕

  16. E.... K....

Too rich to sing such a song

    E.... K....

That's exactly why I love Bob Dylan, and this version. He is not overreacting. He sings it the perfect way, in my opinion.
Of course he is rich. But it's his job, he is a poet, a genius who has come a long way to achieve what he has now, to gain such a reputation.
So perhaps you shouldn't go on a private trip on him, but just appreciate the way he sang it. In my humble opinion, he is outstanding, both in his album work and live performance.

    E.... K....

Great answer. I feel the same way as you. ✌️😻💖

  17. C.... B....

he is still a fucking judas, traitor and sell out----------------fuck him!

  18. K.... J....

    ii hope so

  19. P.... B....

Bears little resemblance to the original . B

    P.... B....

Fortunately that is not required. Both are good.

  20. v.... ....

I don't care what anyone else says, I love his voice here. Perhaps I am defective but the voice fits the words regardless of what he sings. You can keep Adele and Autotune or whatever.

    v.... ....

People who say Dylan “ can’t sing “ are simply Lazy & wrong ...

  21. K.... J....

MAYBE FOR YOU AND NOT FOR ME

  22. D.... P....

I’ve always been amazed with Dylan’s ability to reimagine these classics and revive them for new listeners. Bob nails it.

    D.... P....

Douglas Puett Dylan made this statement: “I go back to Stephen Foster.” It’s no wonder Dylan does this so well.

  23. M.... L....

    This was One Fine Take👌

  24. M.... D....

A terrific version of one of the greatest American melodies. Dylan avoids the sentimentality that overwhelms many performances.

    M.... D....

I like this one, i also like Johny Cash performance.

  25. M.... V....

"Hard times come again no more" - song written in 1854 by Stephen Foster. I love the way Bob Dylan sings it. Thank you for this video.

    M.... J....

This version is good as is the James Taylor version but I am partial to the version done by Mavis Staples, also on YouTube.

  32. C.... D....

thank you! Is there more from this show? where is this show?

    C.... D....

    Good man Bob.

    C.... D....

@John Sessoms do you know who else is playing?

    C.... D....

The mandolin player is Marty Stuart. He's the only one I recognize. The others may be Dylan's backup band from that time. From February 1993 to May 1994 Dylan's band consisted of:
Bucky Baxter (pedal/lap-steel guitar/mandolin) ... who may be the accordion player. I don't really know.
    Tony Garnier (bass)
    John Jackson (guitar)
    Winston Watson (drums)
I'm afraid that's the best I can come up with.

    C.... D....

@John Sessoms definitely Tony Garnier, who's been with Dylan since '89. Not sure about the others but you're right about Marty Stuart.

    C.... D....

@John Sessoms Tony Garnier (bass) and Marty Stuart (mandolin) looks like is correct. But missing the 2 others. I searched on google, but could not get it
