Buckets of Rain .. some of you (like me) have felt the way Bob felt when he wrote this album. Greatest album closer , ever . One of the greatest songs ever with the greatest verse ever “everything about you is bringing me misery.”

Blood on the tracks and Astral Weeks....will we ever see music like this again?...I'm open to suggestions ..

As much as I liked Jon Landau for his criticism and his work with Springsteen, he was wrong with his initial assessment of this album as "shoddy". Most critics now say this is a Dylan masterpiece.

Laughable bass, shoddy guitar, horrible voice, indifferent lyrics. A bad song and a good songwriter end up making a barely tolerable average. I´m going back to "Desolation Row", I do believe I´ve had ee-nuff.....

@Wilfried Sterk Sure, a brain surgery is very bad when you need none! I stand by my opinion. I respect Dylan as a guitarist, but here he seems to take a "devil may care" attitude detrimental to the song. As for the bass.... I imagine the magnificent walking bass of, for example, "Something", and cry for a great opportunity lost. This was really a song for a killer bass, and the guy here just ruins it. Sorry, I know Dylan fans take any criticism of Zimmerman as a personal slur, but I can´t help feeling this is a wasted masterpiece.

Always liked this album as his best, but not this song particularly. It's one of the half of the album that doesn't follow the pattern of having the last line of every verse be the title of the song (and no choruses, most without a bridge) like on:

It's been popping up in my head for years. I even start singing it when it does. Lol

The syncopation is so rhythmic, yet at times off beat, it tends to become a part of who we are when combined with the words. With only six chords and simple lyrics, one would think it rudimentary, however with good picking it develops a depth of complexity, and has small surprises musically and lyrically.

Dylan himself would disagree with you, he says these songs are all about pain. It is about the pain of divorce from his wife Sara with all of the raw emotion put out there for the world to see. He doesn't perform most of these songs on his tours.

@jaye see Yes Jaye see, Blonde on Blonde probably his greatest album, although the album Desire is also the greatest. I am always dumbfounded when people say this is his greatest album since it is all about pain. The fact that there is so much pain in these songs was stated to Mary Travers in an interview she had with Dylan.
