I think this song was my dad's way of telling me about women. Don't waste time and don't ask for their crutch.

Concerning he "rebuke" by Dylan to Lennon (below) consider the last few lines in "Fourth Time Around"...."And, I never took much...I never asked for your crutch...Now don't ask for mine." Then Lennon responds in his 1970 song, "God." ...I don't believe in Zimmerman..."

This song has been explained as an answer to John Lennon's song on Rubber Soul's "Norwegian Wood." It's as if Dylan was telling Lennon, "Nice try John...doing a Dylanesque type song. Here s how it's supposed to be done," (i.e 4th Time Around).

The Beatles did it better

Often, when we talk about an "artist" who has made his way, we say "... he is clever! He'd known how to hollow his voice, ...".
I think we couldn't say the some about Dylan. This artist is certainly different.
In addition of being a great artist, this gentleman is certainly clever too, but exceptionally serious. We can only deeply respect him.

Sorry, but it was exactly the opposite, The Beatles ripped Bob.

Very few ever really "get" Bobs humor. But I can assure you he is not "just copying" Norwegian Wood here. Something can be a "tribute" to the 4 guys who always made it to every Bob Show they could (See Isle of Wight 1969.) and also a rebuke like, "Rubber Soul was nice" now go back to doing your own thing, All of these Great Artists are paranoid about other Great Artists. John and Bob both were of each other I believe.

it was the song I loved most when I was very young, I still and well like it by the same passion.

Not a good copy Dylan of Norwegian Wood miles behind.norweigiean wood was recorded over a year before this October of 65 final mixing.dylans music changed after rubber soul as did all other artists .

Dylan wrote so many songs that sounded the same.

he was mostly focused on the lyrics so it makes sense that some of them would sound similar

I just listened to this straight after listening to Norwegian Wood. It's like a continuation of the same story, or two guys singing about the same girl.

John Lennon, at least, interpreted this song as dig at him for copying Dylan's songwriting style with "Norwegian Wood." The last line, "I never asked for your crutch, now don't ask mine" meaning, roughly, 'I didn't copy the Beatles, don't copy me.'

Who knows if that's what Dylan really meant, but that's what Lennon thought.

Yes a parody. He could have sued but chose to parody the NW lyrics and take it to another level with wordplay. It's pretty well known that Lennon stole the melody from Bobby (this one song ok don't get upset) after Dylan played it for them when they were hanging out in his hotel. They were friendly rivals. I think probably John thought maybe he wouldn't mind since Dylan said he didn't like it very much, he hadn't worked it through yet. When NW came out he did the words for Fourth Time Around as an epic troll. It's pretty funny.
