Blur - Essex Dogs Lyrics
I remember thinking murder in the car
Watching dogs somersault
Through sprinkles on tiny laws
I remember the graffti, we are your children
Coming in with spray cans of paint
And the way the nights seems to turn the colour
of orangeade
In this town cellular phones are hot with thieves
In this town we all go to terminal pubs
It helps us sweat out those angry bits of life
From this town the English Army grind
Their teeth to glass
You'll get kicked tonight
Smell of puke and piss
Here comes the panic attack
My heart stops then starts
Give me a drink
I'll drink your round
I'll take you round the pole
It's cold up here
You'll catch the flu or you'll catch the city
Either way, you'll catch the flu
Or you'll catch the city

Blur Essex Dogs Comments
to me this track sounds like a prelude to 13
I put this song off while listening to this album for the first time, not sure why, but I regret that. I just decided to listen to it and... wow. This is amazing, I have yet to hear a song by Blur that I don’t like.
His voice-His lyrics. Their sound. Makes my heart sad but grateful to have been turned onto them 20 yrs ago.
Blur and Radiohead was my favorite bands when I was young but you heard people say that blur was a pop band for teenage girls, then you listen to this song and you think time has proved me right
one of my favorite songs by Slint
but, this doesnt include interlude
Apparently Blur decided to put this song on the album at the last minute, originally intending "Movin' On" to be the closer. Good thing they did, this eerie track adds a really unique twist to the album.
That makes sense. I can see Movin' On originally being a hidden track of sorts, or a bonus ending to the album, with Strange News from Another Star being the real ending of the album. But then Essex Dog got added.
Me gusta essex dogs pero interlude es una cosa increible, debio haber sido un single de blur con damon albarn cantando.... tenia potencial
Wow, que manera de terminar el disco :o

Nutcases. Blur are one the best bands to come out the UK.
No silly, daman albarn is the best band from uk.
@Mr. Fizzles He's the interesting dude.
INTERLUDE is malinconc and it makes you thinks, the sound like a the end of a journey.... so distroying is the guitar
Someone was trying to start a boat outside the studio that day...
woah... i never thought a song could paint a picture so perfectly in your head

This is some sinister sounding shit. I love it.
Having considered Blur to be a stereotypical britpop band (back in 1997), hearing this song for the first time was quite a revelation. Jaysis!
But where's Dancehall between Essex Dogs and Interlude?
Track list

Great production by Stephen! The whole album has such great effects and creative mixing, it still sounds as modern as back in 1997. One of the best albums of all time, for me personally.
Tryna play 3:56 but I can't find tabs anywhere
Though I like Blur, this is just UNBEARABLE. 🙄
My fave 💕 💕 💕 Nostalgia. It makes me want to watch reservoir dogs
Croatia deserved win the world cup
_smells of puke and piss_
Love asmr
Strong Spiderland vibes
Love how there's no coherent structured lyrics just a madman mumbling
Certe senzazioni o le senti o ti Fotti POVERA MASSA
Mark E. Smith comes to mind when listening to this.
If you liked this take it as an introduction and check some real experimental post rock bands like boards of canada or september malevolence, is an amazing genre.
Boards of Canada is a post-rock band?
I'd like to think this song was influenced by Slint's entire Spiderland album. Graham did mention getting into them once in an interview
This song is awesome. Indie rock a little jazzy. The album is really good. Unfortunately the last album is crap.
Gilles Camilleri i really liked the magic whip a lot
"Magic Whip" good
but "Blur" is masterpiece
I want a 5 minute loop of Interlude
1000 π Good call 👌
BIG UP COLCHESTER XX #RIPTHEMAYPOLEPUB (I assume that's what they're talkin bout with the pole line)
this could had easily been the soundtrack of fight club
Esta Subtitulado I always think of reservoir dogs
Lol I thought that too, it goes pretty well with the ambient
I was thinking the same!
where the English army grinds it's teeth... Colchester
Reminds me of nights out in Harlow, Essex
Was thinking the same thing about Chelmsford... !
Stuart Harbutt eyy, Harlow
the intro sounds like the nauseating motor of a shitty boat lurching over waves while sickening the crew
Oh that guitar. Love you Graham.
Graham is a genius. The guitar sounds like an engine.
Donna Sadler what a legend! You know who his playing reminds me of? No one! Amazing.
This song reminded me so much of Flight Of Navigator (by Childish Gambino)
I'm shook, they're both so good and have almost the same vibe, what the f
The panic attack.... my life story
Salad fingers

... here comes the weekend
the vocal reminds me of Spiderland from Slint
Espero que la vida me de oportunidad de volver escuchar esto
Is this the "Revolution 9" of Blur or something?
It is maybe their most experimental, just as Revolution 9 ya or as like Interstellar Overdrive of Blur.
_Jets_ is also pretty weird and off-kilter, but probably in a more catchy way.
Seems like they were channeling Slint with this one.
One of my favourites of this album!
Riviere8281 me too
Is it just me or does this reference The Normal's 'Warm Leatherette'?
"Here comes that panic attack...
My heart stops.
And then it starts."
gimme a drink
i'll drink ye round
*and then it stalls
2:38 Pum! Pum!
This tune was PERFECT AND OVER at 6:14 - they fucked it up with the remaining bull shit!
+Timothy Dannenhoffer The CD didn't have that extra end bit... and it does fade out before the end bit, so you can just turn it off. I think maybe the vinyl had that extra part on it. Which I don't mind at all.
+Joan Wilcox me too
is another song thas why it says (includes interlude)
Who fucking needs good drugs with music like this? Just LISTEN!
you mean you're just good enough off with cheap drugs?
can't listen to this empty stomach
that's right...I just wanted a headache. Now, I have one. thanks a lot.
+Pankaj Kumar Singh you're welcome
First time I listened to this song it was an odd day. Huge storm had just hit the city, middle of the summer, power was out, 38 degrees celsius and barely any wind anymore. Must've been about 7:30 in the afternoon when I grabbed my phone and set this album (which I had just downloaded a few days prior and put in there) and started listening to it on the earbuds, laying in the arm of the living room couch, since it placed me at the correct height to get a bit of a breeze from the window, and by the time this song started playing, the sun was finally going down and it was very trippy, seeing all the colours out the window, from downright blacks and greys on the clouds to the spots where the sun shone through and the purples, reds and oranges of the end of the day appeared, while this song hit.
Power came back an hour after that, luckily, since the heat was insufferable.
@otterobot Sef obsessed? I talked about how it was warm and the clouds were pretty colours, that has fucking nothing to do with me. What the hell are you on?
+Vitória90 I thought that what you shared was absolutely beautiful :) you should get into writing. thanks :*
That sounds beautiful. The perfect real life MV for this song ( The way the sun was going down )
Damon?!
reminds me on audit in the likes of rayleigh, westcliff and stanford-no-hope
reminds me of going out in Romford in the 90s
love the dark feelings
Probably my favorite track off the album. It's so dark and it makes me think of the location on the back cover.
I thought Park Life or Boy and GIrls was their Teen Spirit personally
What is the location on the back cover? Someone pls tell me I'm curious
Caramel Latte Iceland
Icing Up thanks~
Well said
