Blue Oyster Cult - Veins Lyrics

I open my eyes from a dreamless night
With a sense of dread you could cut with a knife
Still I'm thinking that maybe I killed somebody
Never know, never know when
Might have killed somebody

Veins in my eyeballs
Damage that I've done
Veins on the stairways
Veins in my skull

I visit my friend
We have a fight
I'm drinking his whiskey
I'm wanting his wife
Then the image goes black,
Did I kill somebody
Cause there ain't no clues, no clues
That I killed somebody

Veins in my eardrums
Banging at my door
Veins in my brainwaves
Veins on the floor

I get the shivers and I've got the shakes
People screamin' my name
like there's no mistake
Can't believe it's true
That I killed somebody
But I just don't know, don't know
Did I kill somebody

Veins on the sidewalk
Veins know the score
Veins in my mind, ohhhhhh
Veins evermore...

As a foreigner I always thought this song very weird. To me, as mystical a song like Workshop Of The Telescopes can sound, this one is their song I'm puzzled by the most, specially the title... Veins? Like arteries? WTF? I understand these lyrics but that weird title and the general hysterical Miami Vice atmosphere just leave me in demand for information...
I listen to this song pretty often nevertheless...

  7. S.... M....

4 awesome songs on a WEAK album? WTH

  8. Z.... M....

I reckon I was always a bit harsh on this LP.... maybe it's the gay electronic drums and the 80's keys.... overall it's not a bad LP. I can't forgive the next one though..... yukko !!!

  9. 9.... ....

I don't think they ever did this live nor do I think they or the record co thought much of it, I think it rocks and should be added to the live set................thoughts, comments?

the check out the self-titled, tyranny and mvtation, and secret treaties to really change your life

  22. M.... ....

brilliant song. underated album this and although not one of their best had some magical tracks on it.

  23. C.... S....

Anything Donald and Richard wrote together ended up a masterpiece. Veins is no exception!

  24. A.... ....

    Maybe I killed somebody
You never know, you never know when you might have killed somebody.

  25. F.... ....

For some time I was put off listening to this album and Club Ninja simply because the general concensus was they are crap but after listening to both, I disagree. Sure they both aren't as strong as Fire of Unknown Origin or Agents of Fortune but they have some blinding tracks like this, Shooting Shark and Club Ninja's Perfect Water and Dancing in the Ruins although somewhat cheesy never fail to impress.

  26. D.... ....

It is, and a good representation of 1980's NY yuppie culture and 80's attitudes in general.

  27. r.... ....

Yeah, good reference. That was actually a very good movie!

  28. D.... ....

The Richard Melter penned lyrics remind me of some sort of alternate version of 'American Psycho' where the guy is doing these killings and he or us knows whether they are actually committed or just imagined

  29. r.... ....

Agreed. Very dated but damned if I don't love it. Buck's guitar and vocs save it.

  30. D.... ....

Love this song even though you get this uber '80's cheese television feel from it, like something on Miami Vice or something

  31. B.... A....

Buck was the best, fuck it! His songs NEVER failed. Even the Bouchard brothers' songs aren't 100% great.

  32. G.... F....

I liked his singing on this album, Shooting Shark has particularly good vocals. On Veins, it is hilarious when he says "Veins..in..my..SKULL" the lyrics are so asinine!

  33. E.... W....

Bucks singing is not bad at all! but it is hilarious when he says "somebohhhday" lol
great song though thanks for the post wizard.

  34. B.... A....

Why is the singing so bad? Buck usually sings well.
