Man I haven’t heard this song in decades. Spending time by my cousin who just pulled this out on vinyl and I have to come here to check it out as his turntable is down. Awesome song.

Glad to see at least some others are sick of seeing these posts claiming some band is underrated. WTF does that even mean? Go find whoever it is you think did the underrating and set them straight ok?

BOC played this when I saw them 2 weeks ago. An unexpected surprise!!!

Why isn't this song played on the radio? It should be because it's one of the greatest songs of all time and definitely B.O.C. career best recording and there's a few to mention!

Of course the guitar work is stellar. But no one is commenting on just how good Bouchard's drumming is on this track. Some of his best studio work IMHO.

Saw them in Shippensburg Pa may 17th 19 they played this awesome they also did Bucks Boggie I was amazed!!!!

When I listen to this song while walking down the street, the beat after the first minute of the song makes me feel like I have attitude with each step. Haha!

"The Vigil" has long been one of my favorite BOC tunes. I think "Mirrors" is such a cool album. I bought it in July of 1979 and never felt a bit of disappointment in it. I never cared for the title track, but other than that "Mirrors" kicked butt! It's not "Secret Treaties", but what is? This song just takes me where I want to be every time.

I saw these guy at Cadillac ranch in concord ca back in 1999 paid ten bucks was right in front of the amplified sound lost my hearing for 3 days my friend said you want some ear plugs I said no I'm good the Eric bloom said any requests I said the vigil great show great band I remember these guys would fill 50 thousand seat venues I've seen them dozens of times it's a shame that there playing at the Santa Cruz boardwalk and never got a nod into the RARHOF they definitely deserve it 1968 secret treaties career of evil angents of fortune monsters fire of unknown origin specters great album these guys kicked so much ass in the 70s 80s and 90s not to mention they are one of favorites how can you have a deaf ear to blue oyster cult?

Youngsters, I did acid with my friends one night and The Vigil was the first song I heard. It was trippy. This BOC album is so old
and we listened it to on 8 track tape. Many of those old friends are dead, but I still love the Vigil. Rest In Peace

I always was fond of this music (BOC), but listening to it some 25-30 years later, I have a completely different appreciation. Then, I liked it, drove to it, partied with it. Now, having developed a more mature understanding of music, such as composition, structure, and balance, to name just a few things, I become aware of how beautiful and brilliant this song really is. I was fortunate enough to see these guys in an intimate venue of about a 100 or so people. They were doing an off-label show as "Soft White Underbelly", which is the bands original name. I don't think I even have to tell anyone how that was!

I agree Jim.  I loved this song instantly in 79, but it has more than withstood the test of time and ranks as one of the great rock compositions ever.

Lucky you! At least I got to experience a bit of the nineties before music turned to shite.

Saw them this past weekend. They played this song, and I was standing right at the front in front of Eric Bloom. That chug of a guitar riff, when Bloom was looking all cool with his shades... No word but awesome.

just a lot of excellent and right on comments here. BOC has so many great rocking tunes that people just aren't aware of. I have all of their albums, and have probably seen them over 30 times. By far, my favorite band.

Get away from FM radio. This is heard on satellite. Along with some of the best music you could imagine.

aGree.  Can't listen to corporate classic rock FM.   Got satellite 12 years ago,  dropped it because of the repetition (like FM) and now on Spotify so I can cut out all the Bon Jovi crap and listen to custom play lists of good artists.

just saw BOC tonight in Akron OH. They played The Vigil and brought the house down! Buck shredded like always. On your feet or on your knees!

The lick at 4:40 is pure Buck Dharma.

This one actually begins at 4:15, and like so many of Buck's guitar licks it is compact (he fit more in 30 to 45 sec than most could do on an entire song), and it is "oh so smooth" (not a violent hack on the strings). I really believe that's why he's often not mentioned among top rock guitarists. That being "shredders" got all the attention, but Buck used a "scalpel" when playing. His style was precise and effortless.

B.O.C was always under rated! Perhaps they knew, and named it cult! Tyranny and Mutation is my favorite, but Mirrors is one you can play at a party and people don't think its even B.O.C. ! Almost went country music sound! Lights are dim roads are crumbling! Only B.O.C ! HA!
