Blue Oyster Cult - Power Underneath Dispair Lyrics

You boys are surprised to see me
Never thought I'd get out of jail
Took eight long years to spring me
And two hours to ride the rail

Took only thirty minutes to find you
Asking every snake slithering the street
"Where's the man with the golden tattoo?
The man who let me take the heat?"

You're surprised in your neon lair
By the power underneath despair

Power underneath
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

Power underneath There's a power
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

Power underneath There's a power
Power underneath Yeah the
Power underneath despair

Power underneath There's a power
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

In solitary for two steel years
Thought of you sixty times an hour
Fighting madness and fighting despair
Digging the hidden power

Thought about you in the yard
When your punk slipped me the blade
Thought about you in the hospital ward
When I gave it back to him in trade

And my smile is the last sight you'll see
As you feel the power from inside of me

Power underneath
Power underneath There's a
Power underneath despair

Power underneath
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

Power underneath There's a power
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

Power underneath
Power underneath There's a
Power underneath despair

Power underneath
Power underneath There's a
Power underneath despair

Power underneath
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

Power underneath There's a power
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

Power underneath There's a
Power underneath
Power underneath despair

Blue Oyster Cult Power Underneath Dispair Comments
  1. MrRyuHayabusaGaiden

I'd like to make an official request to all Metallica fans. Please stop! Please? Nobody gives a shit about 4 people who got rich and famous off of other people's hard work. Want examples? Sure: Diamond Head, Budgie, Blue Oyster Cult, Dave Mustaine, and many, many others.

  2. The Mothman

    I love this album

  3. Celestial Deconstruction

I feel bad for the people whose experience with this band start and end with Don't Fear The Reaper.

  4. Not Poland

I think I'm gonna blow my earbuds out...

  5. Art Rodriguez

Have you seen the Power?...Yeah its underneath the Spare!

  6. Taylor Durette

    “WHO DID THIS?!?!?”

  7. Zal Moxis

What this album is missing is the rest of the guys aside from the original members are just playing along.... whereas in the old BOC they were all pushing to be heard.....

    Steven Wilkinson

It's a Buck & Eric show (& a very good one) but lacks the dimensions & augmentations of original line up BOC ...

  8. Kellen Rist

Hades, Satan. The King of the Dead, the Lord of the Darkness. Whatever name he goes by, he must love BOC.

    Ace Ace

Kellen Rist His name is Ronnie James Dio.

    Duncan Bleak

    Yes I do!

  9. Harmonic Decibels

Love this song! I was brought up listening to BOC and will always love them! Unrated! They are the masters

  10. hoibsh

Rolling Stones the greatest rock n roll band of all time?  Please.

    Steven Wilkinson

BOC are so many levels ahead of most bands that they just go over the heads of most listeners ...

  11. Tom Doyle

This album KICKED ASS. It was BOC's way to tell us they were back. Unfortunately, I don't think the next one was as good.

  12. Rob Dotzler

I know you wrote your statement a year ago trukinhard77, but I know for a fact that the kronos was placed on the Cassini Probe to Saturn.  Tons of employees of NASA are BOC fans, as would only be appropriate as the themes of their music go hand in hand with the mindset that music loving scientists can relate to.  "The Thinking Man's" heavy metal band.  Those aren't my words, those are words I was brought up with.  I was 10 when they came out, but thanks to an older brother, I had a kronos on my jean vest before I was 11.

    hoibsh

Really?  That makes me love BOC even more!

  13. nemtall

These Guys are The Fathers ,,Metallica  are The children .. Stop comparing .

    Utku Erdogan

Bro Metallica is no child, but these guys are fathers, Metallica even has a cover of their song

    MrRyuHayabusaGaiden

@Utku Erdogan shit-talica has several covers of BOC songs actually. But you'd know that if you actually had any idea of what music is.

  14. Juan Perez

    que gran banda.geniales

  15. Killers455

    amazing song

  16. John Houlgate

Shades of Flaming Telepaths. This band hasn't strayed from its roots, it's grown from them. Kick ass song.

  17. William Musa

    Power of the knee.

    PinkPonyOfPrey

hahaha thanks for ruining this song forever! :D

  18. trukinhard77

The hook-and-cross logo was designed by Bill Gawlik in January 1972,and appears on all of the band's albums In Greek mythology,..the hook-and-cross symbol is that of Kronos, the king of the Titans and father of Zeus..and is the alchemical symbol for lead . In Roman mythology, the hook-and-cross symbol represents Saturn, the God of agriculture and fertility. The hook and cross symbol also resembles the sickle, which is associated with both Kronos and Saturn (both the planet and the Roman God).

  19. delepalou

    Absolutely!

  20. LasVulpes87

Blue Öyster Cult is my one of favorite bands :) always puts a smile on my face

  21. incubatorjesus

    Not the symbol for lead.

  22. ICE Ostinato

Die Strophe des Songs ist fantastisch. Sie wäre, nur so nebenbei, perfekt für die Stimme von Axl Rose ausgelegt. (ich stelle mir oft imaginär vor Axl würde sie singen...aber na ja ;) )

  23. Simon Wilson

How many killer tracks can one band have... imagine having to put the set list together for one of their shows these days. What a challenge that would be! :)

    ajvasta

actually, their set lists are pretty lazy....it's almost as if even THEY don't know how deep their catalog is.

  24. Devin Flinn

totally the oringaly metal. The symbol is actualy taken from the Alchemic symbol for lead... cuz its the 'heaviest metal..." Each time I hear this song, that fact is proven more and more true.

    Ace Ace

Devin Flinn Don't go around misinforming people to sound cool, it's pretty shitty of you. This is what they said in an interview, "We like to say it is an ancient symbol that means "Blue Oyster Cult". The BOC logo was created by Bill Gawlik, the artist who created the band's first and second album covers. It is a stylization of the astronomical symbol for the planet Saturn."

  25. Magnum

@DarkRetroFan64 Check out some of their older stuff, they have a whole range of metal right through to ballads and instrumentals...one of the very best live bands ever!

  26. Roggiedodgie

I fear for the dude with the golden tattoo, because boc is pretty ticked at him

  27. stuart coinstu

    Great Band

  28. bstensland

...and my smile-y is the last sight you see...;-)
...Metallica was still on their mother's teat when BOC were at their prime(in fact, I think Kirk Hamster is still on the mom).

  29. Tom Morrison

metalica? you've got to be kidding! this is the original heavy metal band

  30. Radkappen Hamster

    @tmanroksgothacked
    BUY A GERMAN KEYBOARD!!!!!!!!!
    lol

  31. TitanNerd68

I like this song. The style reminds me of Fight Fire with Fire by Metallica.

  32. Drizzlerman

This is sort of like 'The Punisher' or something

  33. Matt D

    what year was this?

  34. Basil II Macedonia

Can't believe how underrated this album is, it's bloody amazing. Some fantastic tracks on it.

  35. amarparis17

so few views... shame this album deserves to be more known

  36. nate556

There is indeed a Power undernearth Despair.
