Blue Oyster Cult - Out Of The Darkness Lyrics

Out of the darkness out of the dustcloud
Follow the thread and then trace your way free
Your father, your mother have bound you in darkness
Have blinded you sweetly and so far from me
They cannot abide me, your father and mother
But they cannot divide me from the one other than me

Only one other, only one other
Only one other has meaning for me

Now come to the window, now wipe away raindrops
See there a scarecrow who waves through the mist
I am that dim form, I raise my right hand
A rag in a rainstorm, the chance that you've missed
The door opens both ways, the door opens outward
My heart contains always the one time we kissed

Only one other, only one other
Only one other has meaning for me
Only one other beside my own soul
You are that other with meaning for me

Your mother, your father, they live in their heart break
They remember each other and they turn you from me
Your mother, your father they hate me for your sake
But they cannot divide us, no I won't let it be

I am that dim form, I raise my right hand
A rag in a rainstorm, the chance that you've missed
The door opens both ways, the door opens outward
My heart contains always the one time we kissed

The only one other, only one other
Only one other has meaning for me
Only one other beside my own soul
You are that other with meaning for me

The only one other, only one other
Only one other has meaning for me
Only one other beside my own soul
You are that other with meaning for me

It's been so long it is teary scary to listen to it now. :'[

  2. W.... 1....

13 years old, my poppy listens to Blue Oyster Cult, he's taught me what real music is. Though I like pop too, oldies will always bring me home... I love you so so much Poppy... I'm crying just by the thought of your grave.

  3. J.... I....

3:29 Cuando se re pone ese cumbión

  4. r.... s....

Lay down with Pigs ..and come up with common knowledge?

  5. w.... b....

My all-time favorite rock band. B.O.C. NEVER disappoints!

  6. A.... B....

This album is a gem. I love this tune. Perfect.

  7. R.... L....

    Great tune------- Only B.O.C

  8. F.... N....

what album was this i cant seem to recall?

    F.... N....

    Curse of the Hidden Mirror

  9. R.... ....

This is an astonishingly good song.   Poignancy piled on top of poignancy.  A masterpiece, really.

  10. S.... W....

Just love Eric's vocal on this one ,... the rest is typically brooding and moody BOC wonderment. Leaving the studio in some style as befits their greatness.

  11. L.... O....

Though not on par with their 70's/80's stuff, it is really beautiful.

    L.... O....

I beg to differ ! As good as the 70s and 80s Lol

  12. M.... ....

Rowling must be a fan, keeps bringing me here. I love about 10 songs, these are kinda obscure.

    M.... ....

    Cormoran and Robin!

  13. C.... R....

I love you, Kayla Stewart. I always will. I'm so sorry.

  14. A.... M....

A creepy love song that is gothic, a bit Steven king, twilight zone, with a pinch of don't fear in it! Only boc could pull this off'

    A.... M....

I can never ever "explain" BÖC but i often end up with that same line - Only BÖC could pull this off. Amen

    A.... M....

Just unique & unmatched for their arcane & skillful songwriting /storytelling over decades ....

    A.... M....

This track sounds like it belongs on side two of Agents of Fortune.... :)

  15. B.... ....

Great album cover, anyone have any comments as to how it fits the BOC enigma.

    B.... ....

@BritishRG Another B.O.C love song. Eric the "Sinister Crooner" Great tune

    B.... ....

+BritishRG I think it's just expressionistic. Or...the position in the pic is practically impossible. The guy with that kind of a costume drags another same kind of a guy on a sand dune at the desert on a rickshaw. The guy on a rickshaw holds a mirror in his hand, which naturally shows a rear view. The guy don't seem to look at mirror in the pic, but he seems to look at the guy, who is dragging the rickshaw. The mirror is not hidden in the pic. And the guy, who is dragging, seems to look down, like some doomed person, who don't feel the need to look up and find a goal in the horizon. Fears to look up, cos there he just might find a big hidden mirror, which might show him a bigger pic of their position in there at sand dunes in such an impossible situation. I found this explanation from my own very head, but i wouldn't even tried to find any kind of these, without hearing the band. So...they must have impressed me that way. Some call them "thinking man's heavy metal." I don't know; it's BÖC rock and roll to me. But can sometimes make think of their cover art also. Lol. Btw this song is haunting and keeps "ringing" in my every time i hear it.

    B.... ....

The wheels of the carriage don't sink into the sand or leave any tracks.

    B.... ....

I think it's a callback to the song curse of the hidden mirror, it was recorded in 1970, before the blue oyster cult had their label. In the song it talks about these mirrors that reveal your true self.

To the folks that didn't like a Long Day's Night, understand that there were sound problems all the way around, they even had to dump Joan Crawford from the recording.  It's still a fun watch, to see Allen (RIP brother, you better be teaching my daughter guitar and keyboards up there!) rocking the second half of the solo for Then Came The Last Days of May?  Fan-f*cking-tastic!  I'd have been able to see him at the 40th reunion if Sandy hadn't happened, couldn't get to the reschedule.  What a damn shame that was.  Well, for the victims of Sandy I mean (yeah, I was being selfish).

    R.... D....

read your post...nothing but love my brother....

    R.... D....

@mattaxmann Thanks much, it's been a rough 6 weeks to be sure.  Props to my step daughter though, she put together a killer memorial benefit to help buy a marker of some sort for her.  My daughter actually bought a Long Day's Night for me for Christmas the year it came out, it's nice to watch and remember taking her to shows with me.  In fact, unknown to us at the time, my ex wife was pregnant with her for the Tulsa Foghat/BOC show back in '81.  I even met my present wife at a Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep, Nazareth and BOC show 21 years ago, BOC has been pretty much pivotal in my life.

    R.... D....

BOC has and is the luxury of my life, along with the mountains, my dogs, and my lady.

    R.... D....

Walter .. BOC can enhance anyone's life if they have a modicum of good musical taste ...
    A Glorious band.

  17. a.... ....

Man I am old now that people saying 2001 songs are classics.

    a.... ....

man happens too often nowadays.. but we are so lucky growing up in the middle of the true era of true music

    a.... ....

Well put my friend... and how true!

  18. J.... C....

time waits for no-one, But regardless, I gotta say.. just beautiful, so haunting, classic BOC

    J.... C....

    Reminds me of Nosferatu.

    J.... C....

    So true JC...nicely expressed. Thx

  19. A.... S....

Both "Heaven Forbid" and "The Curse of the Hidden Mirror" are great later-day albums for Blue Öyster Cult. If you enjoy albums like "Agents of Fortune", "Spectres" or "Fire of Unknown Origin" I really don't see no reason you shouldn't enjoy these too!

  20. A.... L....

    Excelente tema... Grande B.Ö.C!!!

  21. A.... N....

My mother divided us. may her rotten soul burn forever. I met her at Saintn Patricks in 1976 and I will never forget her.

  22. R.... T....

    B.Ö.C R.U.L.E.S !

  23. n.... ....

2 years later. Man, the bass just sucks me in.

  26. D.... F....

    I love this album...

  27. D.... ....

I've never listened to this song or album very much but this tune is amazing.

  28. 1.... ....

    boc still lives!

    1.... ....

    Eternity...no doubt

  29. B.... ....

Great song! The entire cd is pretty damn good. This is just another one of those bands that has a ton of great songs. Thanks.

  30. A.... S....

This is one of my favorite tracks on the album. The album contains eleven tracks. Some which is quite similar to their earliest work and some to their eighties material. This one has a quite similar feel to the tracks on "Agents of Fortune" and it's a shame this album isn't more famous and haev reached more fans, young and old!

    A.... S....

It's reached the right people... ;-)

  31. H.... &....

    @Bojoe777NaBl Wow, excellent description.

  32. R.... T....

Pushing 70??? May I P L E A S E be making music this good and singing this well at that age ! Ian Hunter from still has it and he's 72. Some of these older cats can show the young boys what it's all about! Ian Gillan still has his voice. Dio sang those lungs out until cancer got him sick and finally took him. Age matters not if you haven't drugged yourself to death.

  33. M.... C....

@Kirlian196 I just saw them yesterday at Rib America and they were way on top of their game!!

  34. P.... W....

That would be kick ass. Then it could be the score for a doom movie that's actually based on Doom.

  35. B.... I....

    Great chorus to this track.

  36. A.... ....

If you don't want to see/hear their newer stuff, you really don't have to.

  37. A.... ....

Anyone else think this song could be sort of like NIB?
You know, with Lucifer falling in love with some chick, or something?

  38. A.... ....

Are you implying that BOC doesn't still kick ass live?
Bloom doesn't sing as well as he used to, but the only obstacle there is adjusting to the aging of his voice, which he's done pretty well (I have a recording of a show from 2008 where he sounds better than he did on A Long Day's Night).

  39. P.... W....

Love this riff. For some reason it reminds me of the "Phobos Anomaly" song from Doom.

  40. n.... ....

I love this song. I know first hand what it's like to love someone who's parents think you're lower than dirt and do everything to keep you away.
But... they cannot divide me from the one other than me *grin*

  41. B.... T....

Agreed. I noticed that on "A long Day's Night"...Makes me sad, but hey, nothing lasts forever.

  42. a.... ....

Well, to each his own, but I'm afraid most students of vocal prowess and BOC would say that Bloom's voice is but a mere shell of it's former self. It's wheezy, there's no power, and he makes up for the inability to carry a note through (on tune) by either growling or adding some vibrato.

Check out anything live from 1980-1982 to hear him as a real singer.

    a.... ....

azmarkus Bloom was amazing back then. I still think he kicks ass even though he aged.

    a.... ....

    Mistress of the Salmon Salt

  43. B.... T....

Finally a song that features someone other than the overated Buck Dharma on vocals, and surprisingly it's Eric Bloom! Don't get me wrong I love Bucks voice, but you gotta have Eric Bloom in there. I suppose it's too much to ask for Albert and Joe Bouchard to sing a few tunes since they're no longer in the band but it would be somthing to here the original lineup together again. They are missing somthing and I think its' that Bouchard charisma...

  44. B.... I....

The best of their recent songs. OMG, this song rocks, it's just superb.

  45. b.... ....

The old Bloom would have killed live.Still,it's pretty good.

  46. s.... ....

Man, Eric Bloom sounds just as cool as ever.
