Blue Oyster Cult - Mistress Of The Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl) Lyrics
Down in the garden district
Where the plants grow strong and tall
Behind the bush there lurks a girl
Who makes them strong and tall
Behind her back: quicklime girl
Behind the bush: quicklime girl
She's the mistress of the salmon salt: quicklime girl
In the fall when plants return
By harvest time, she knows the score
Ripe and ready to the eye
But rotten somehow to the core
Villagers call her: quicklime girl
Behind the bush: quicklime girl
She's the mistress of the salmon salt: quicklime girl
A harvest of life, or harvest of death
One body of life, one body of death
And when you've gone and choked to death
With laughter and a little step
I'll prepare the quicklime, friend
For your ripe and ready grave
It's springtime now and cares subside
And the planting's almost done
And fertile graves, it seems, exist
Within a mile of that duke's joint
Where coast guard crews still take their leave
Lying listless in the sun
And the quick lime girl still plies her trade
The reduction of the many from the one
And they call her: quicklime girl
Behind her back: quicklime girl
Behind the bush: quicklime girl
She's the mistress of the salmon salt: quicklime girl
A harvest of life, a harvest of death
Resumes it's course each day
Because it exists by schedule
A harvest to live, ......
And those that crawl, and those that chirp
And next life's swans that seem to turn

An alchemic experiment.

A song about growing plants! Far out!
That’s some fine drumming.
Lyrics anyone?
In the garden district where the plants grow strong and tall behind the bush there lurks a girl .... yadaa yadaa ))
Yup, career of Evil 😂
Estoy aquí por la nota encontrada dentro de la caja donde le enviaron la pierna de una mujer a Cormoran Strike
Patti Smith didn't help on this song , did she?
Inspired weirdness...
No one in rock conveys the sense of foreboding and menace like BOC. There are a lot other bands that attempt it, but they sound like pretenders compared to BOC.
In the garden district Where the plants grow strong and tall Behind the bush, there lurks a girl Who makes them strong and tall The villagers call her... (Quicklime girl) behind her back (Quicklime girl) behind the bush (Quicklime girl) She's the mistress of the salmon salt (Quicklime girl, quicklime girl, quicklime girl) In the fall when plants return By harvest time she knows the score Ripe and ready to the eye Yet rotten somehow to the core And they call her... [Psychedelic solo] It's springtime now and cares subside And the plannings almost done And fertile graves it seems exist Within a mile of that juke joint Where Coast Guard crews still take their leave Quite listless in the sun And the quicklime girl still plies her trade Reduction of the many from the one And they call her... I always thought it was Good Time Girl instead of Quicklime. Thanks for the lyrics still a great song either way.
case closed. first! (only referring to Mr. Weytani and hisverified work.)
The intro is so funky
I'm a BOC fan from the early 70's. This is actually my favorite song. Very underrated. Lyrics are spooky. Crank it up.
Im here because of GHOST
I ' m one more because of cormoran
I just want to thank BOC for all the good music! Fuck yeah!
Fourteen yrs old listening to this album I was hooked for life. Amazing song writing. This song and OD'd on Life are my favorites.
Cormoran Strike and "Career of Evil" who know JK Rowling liked Blue Oyster Cult?
One of BOC's best. "Then Came the Last Days of May" also ranks. A quirky band. "Baby Ice Dog""? All strange and marvelous.
JK Rowling is a rocker 😃
this is another album that I played so much it turned white!
Come on people, you don't need a book to tell you what's great music
Ahh, such a beautiful song about my beautiful babe. I've been listening to BOC for 44+ years and there isn't another song that comes close to this one about her. What they don't tell you is that she's always targeting the .01%'rs. What a killer lady.
A rock song about gardening!
Yeah im here bcs career of devil hahahhahha
I'm here because of BOC (been listening to this since '74), but now I'm interested in finding out about that book...
And when you've gone an choked to death!
2. - I never figured out what a quicklime girl, salmon salt or a diz buster was but I know
what hot rails are. They're playing bingo here but I don't partake. That's for old farts!
I want to recover, get out & trip my brains out! (I saw God on 4 hits in 1974.) HAHA!
1. - Althovgh I believe in the dominant religion of the area I svre like this albvm.
Good sovnd, good playing, all kickass! Better watch ovt, Blve Oyster Cvlt, I
axed God to take yovz gvyz to Heaven. I have the 1st 2 albvms on vinyl and CD.
I'm 69 & am playing this in the nvrsing home as I recover from svrgery.
Life is so strange, but it makes sense someone would give these tracks a second life as some sort of video game soundtrack.
no life left down here wait till mama gets home with 55 percennt of a brain
NO GUEST IN HERE aMErICa wIlL NEVER lISTeN iF TheY GIVe UP tHEIR ONLy DAUgHTeR
This song is great,I should read career of evil sometime.
Soft White Underbelly
Dark sounds from a very original group; but there's just something about the music you just can't help but like.
Fond memories of the tater smoking 70's.
Rotten somehow to the core
When you play a song that was mentioned in a tv show only to read the comments and find out you’re not the only one. 🙈😂
Strike brought me here!
Rowling is the best!
Strike S03E01 brought u here as well?

jkr if you are looking at this tweet, don't forget to take a listen to 'lips in the hills' by boc.
Just perfect.
This album was a memory for me i was 10 but heard this song on the radio back then it
was hard to understand as you grow with a band that grows you may follow them and
i did and seen a few shows as they went all over the U.S. i thought very mysterious band
it"s all music and all art by means this has nothing to do with evil .. more their imagination
by the time they put out "Cultasaurus Erectus" they were sought after . also the drummer and the bass player are brother's
some years ago i seen the drummer in a band called the "brain Surgeons"
and were ok but not like BOC was Buck Dharma made a few of his own albums
"we have a donor we have consent" writing a song about a car accident is never good still it"s some kind of art lol.
So men make good plant food.

Lyrics correction, according to lyricist Albert Bouchard:
"that Duke's joint" should say, "that juke joint"
"A harvester lifts his arms to the rain" should say, "A harvest of limbs, of arms and of legs"
thank you.
I've been here since The Last Days of May.
phydeauxddog man, in these hot days... a little bit of water goes a long way.
Just over the bluff?
@conjured_up_skeletons yes
wow happy thanksgiving we r diviced cum together like B.O.C.
Cormoran Strike in Finland, 2017! Yay, that's so messed up but cool
All of BOC blends to one long song.
phydeauxddog Um, no.
Yes I'm not seeing the connection between 7 Screaming Dizbusters & Lonely Teardrops .. maybe it's just me ??
It's fair to say that everything on the first 3 albums fits & gels & is re-visited in Imaginos but otherwise um, No.
i can always get a new way of audio via pc,ty
remember november? it seems like a jeff lynne september song now...et carter
This one may take the cake for weirdness in the roomy pantheon of weird BOC tunes. Being the last song on a dark album that they rarely did live also lends it an obscurity and additional cachet. It is positively killer.
It just fricken rips.
nah, I would say Vengence (the pact) takes the cake of weirdness, but still an awesome song!
hey had controversy your quote was correct i was wrong! may i still participate? luv u i am old R &R Fart call me out ..........if u wish
lol I'm here bc of the book too..a bit of a butterfly effect! their lyrics are pretty incredible, actually.
That's largely because they had intellectuals such as Sandy Pearlman & Richard Meltzer supplying them aided by Patti Smith & the like .... pretty unique stuff.
cormoran's mom bring me here
Guitars obviously sweet but that rhythm section is killer.....🤘🏼😜
Cormoran Strike me trajo aquí.
Quicklime girl........
Quick lyme girl!
Lendo Vocação para o mal kkkkk Cormoran Strike - Brasil - 2017
It's funny how i already knew and loved BOC but hadn't come to listen to this gem before reading Carrer of Evil !!!! Rowling did it again !
Check out Revenge of Vera Gemini. Patty Smyth on backing vocals is eerily amazing.
demiegel Check out all of their music there isn't a bad song.
She's a traitor.
I have no idea what a Quicklime Girl is but this song is outta sight.
Quicklime has been used in the past to help decomposition. In other words, if you want to get rid of a body fast, cover it in quicklime.
Right on! You got it!
Best BOC
Nobody in life, no body in death!
quicklime girl !...yes
picture this at 100 thru 4 model 6 jensens tracked at about a gram and a quarter .stop yer heart
What is salmon salt?
jlrmoody fish cum. duh!
I think it is the name of the juke joint she plies her trade in.
I grow things for a living. This song rocks! Has harmony that usuallyisnt foung in most BOC songs . Some tight singing!
I want to grow things for a living Bro? Haaha, seriously though ;-))
@Barah Holloway Hey? Trust me , growing things pays well.
@Barah Holloway Well plant stuff or go to school and waste time and money, did I mention money? Then plant stuff! Plant more every year! Plant's die, know how to grow them or understand why that plant died! Here's a hint, almost all plant deaths are from people loving them to death or ignoring them.
Great to hear the track from the book brings the novel to life.J K Rowling has chosen one of the most underated bands. BOC have always been a favourite of mine.
???
Which Book?
"Career of Evil" by Robert Galbraith (aka J K Rowling) ... appears that the great author also has great taste in music ... "the thinking man's rock band" is featured throughout the book.
She's a traitor to her race.
I always picture this song about a Female Pot Grower in NorCal.
Cormoran Strike me trouxe aqui..
Cormoran Strike for sure
Arabesqueando man..... I'm reading that book.... and was taken a back by the lyrics that got be hooked to BOC... n im a fan already.the lyrics are really something song titles too that's what really gripped me.im glad I got my hands on this book and BOC.
Arabesqueando : I just discovered that great show. The leg episode. 😂
Not bad. Strike used to listen to good music
his mom
His mom's surname is also Strike ;) His dad was named John Rockeby
Not Bad??? Fuuuukkkkkkkk!!!!!!
Leda Strike has a good taste of music. and yes i talking about career of evil. that book brought me here
Yep, Cormoran Strike fan :) Never heard of this band before Leda. Never. I love old rockbands but this is new.
Margreet, and like no other rock band, trust me. Oh and the best by a mile .....
I am here because of Career of Evil. I wanted to know what the references meant.
have not read the book, been listening to BOC for years. what took you all so long to find this awesome music? well, better late then never. sit back and enjoy the sound. :)
+tom karais Why "read the book" when you can listen to the tape...??? LOL ; )
Cormoran Strike's new adventure finally made it to Germany...
debbie denise
I thought at first the band was fictional and decided to check anyway. When books lead you to good books, it's great. Same as when they lead to musical finds! -sent by Cormoran
+Diwata Luna I had the same, I thought it was fiction to
Mystical but real... the best of both worlds. ;-)
Stalk-Forrest Group, Soft White Underbelly, The Soft Doctrines of Imaginos. Those are the 'fictional' ones.
I’ve been a fan of BOC since I was a teenager in the seventies. Seems BOC brought me to the book..I’m reading it now.
reading is good!
Im here just because it's BOC.
Yes! Finally- tired of all these comments " I'm here because of" gets old --- just a cool song
@David Osterberg Im here because I need new turntable. Bought this album the day it came out.
As my as I love BOC there is one band that gets way more playtime.
Captain Beyond considered to be one the best produced and sounding groups by people in the music industry.
@Ronnie Wall couldn't wait huh?
@David Osterberg hell no I needs my BOC.
Plus to get new turntable is going to be around a grand. I have. Harmon Kardon ST7 that bit the dust finally.
Leda Strike naked brought me here.
hot 2 d kenton
Still looking hot 2d old and clean
Here because of Career of Evil
I've been listening to BOC for 35+ years. When I want to enjoy them, this is usually the album I reach for. My favorite BOC record. This album rocks from start to finish! Very underappreciated. The 1st 4 records are all killer albums! On Your Feet or on Your Knees also one of the best live records from the era
Del Shoemaker .Live in the west & some enchanted evening, also great .
@Andy Fisher Never forget Mirrors, That is a stand alone album. An entirely different thing. Usually the one that strangers to BOC like first!
@Andy Fisher Some Enchanted Evening is probably the best produced/sounding live album of all time! Yes' some will say that Frampton Comes Alive is the best. Best seller, but best sounding?
Del Shoemaker .Funny,as a teenager in the seventies I dismissed Mirrors as being to soft..Now in my fifties I love it.
Pretty girls can't look away!
i love how most of the people here are here because of career of evil cx
What is that?
So? What!? Career of Evil is a great song!
BEN here since the 1st Album
not all of us. quick lime girl!
Donald Laing brought me here.
Eat me!
lots of controversy Ha ha ha ha not me!
Career criminal brought me here
+JAMES MIIKE career of evil
+Vic V. I suppose it's the "quicklime" reference in the song...???
Half of these views are from Career of evil readers.
@Ally Mormont
Thank you. I haven't read a whole book in probably 20 years.....lo....too busy. I read a lot of short articles and trade publications.
Thanks again!!
@MechanicalMartialArtist You'll honestly love it :) And you're welcome.
me too!
a book by Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling, it's a detective story, very good one
why do you say that?
