Blue Oyster Cult - I'm On The Lamb But I Ain't No Sheep Lyrics

Canadian mounted baby, a police force that works
Red and black, that's their color scheme
get their man, in the end
It's all right, it's all right.

Frontenac chateau baby
I'll cross the frontier at ten
Got a whip in my hand baby
And a girl or a husky at leather's end
It's all right, it's all right
My lovely bel punice, you'd kill and you'd maim

Hornswoop me bungo pony, dogsled on ice
Make a dash for freedom baby, don't skate on polar ice
It's to thick to be sliced by the light
Of long and white polar nights
It's all right, it's all right
My lovely bel punice, you'd kill and you'd maim

by far my favourite BOC track

  6. M.... R....

The Black and White Years were just amazing...i was just a kid and loved them...finally was old enough to see them live Black and Blue show...but would have love to see these first years

[Instrumental Outro]

  9. G.... J....

Wonder what the RCMP think of this song?

  10. M.... B....

listening to this tape cranked all the way up while cruzing down the jacksboro hiway back in the early 70s in a 69 olds 442 on a cold texas night , brings back fuzzy but good memories

  11. T.... R....

It just doesnt get any better than Buck Dharma on guitar in this first BOC album.

  12. h.... d....

    This is nasty. Love it!

  13. r.... s....

Watt kind o person would I be

  14. r.... s....

I hate solitude don't you glue my ass to a fencepost

  15. B.... S....

I like this version better, than the remake on Tyranny.....this seems to capture the first album sound best....IOTL,BIANS.....mixes, Hard Rock/Heavy Metal/with Pschedelia......incredible mix, from an incredible band.

  16. e.... m....

    Brilliant

  17. C.... D....

    Absolutely classic.

  18. r.... s....

    Left hand skitch

  19. r.... s....

    Take me back!

  20. T.... L....

Would really appreciate it if in general you posted the song lyrics in the description, if that’s not too much to ask for

  21. R.... ....

Best böc song i have heard

  22. G.... F....

Cruised the streets of my hometown in ‘77/ 78 in my ‘67 Chevelle listening to this album ( cassette), high as kite, no worries and no responsibilities, Damn life was good,...does anybody know anything about time travel...

  23. J.... K....

I've been a fan since they were Soft White Underbelly .
an saw them 18 times.love b.o.c..gteatest band ever.love. the light shows with a hit of 4 way window pain .
    REMEMBER..????,.

  24. N.... P....

I've always loved boc since my dad used to jam it out when I was really young. I saw them up in Binghamton NY where I'm from back in the 80s. I was about 18 at the time. They came with RUSH of all people. It was a kick ass concert ! Pure rock

    N.... P....

Nemo Princess Rush and BOC sounds like an amazing experience

  25. e.... m....

    Brilliant

  26. J.... D....

    Buck blazin 🎸

  27. J.... C....

...simply, this IS my all time favorite album. It's a long story.

  28. l.... h....

Jesus is the answer. BÖC was my church when I lived in insanity. I am free in Jesus now. How about you?

    l.... h....

Rents are too high to live in insanity, so now I just commute there. 😉

  29. C.... O....

This was the SONG that made me a HUGE devout BOC fan!

Got a whip in my hand baby
And a girl or a husky at leather's end
It's all right, it's all right

If Im not mistaken they cannibalized this song to make their awesome hit Red and the Black... which is also about Canadian Mounties...

Ride mush you huskies-ride mush you huskies-ride mush you huskies

  30. j.... ....

Great! Inspired by Sgt Preston of the Yukon ( the videos are on YT! ) it transmogrified into "The Red and the Black" another classic. First 2 albums were .masterpieces. LOL I saw them open for the Mahavishnu Orchestra at Stoneybrook U. I love BOC, but The M.O. kicked ass that night.

  31. J.... ....

Direct line to the mainspring of rock. Never over complicated and true to its amplified edgy origin.

  32. d.... ....

Best BOC song in my opinion !!!

    d.... ....

dsturick is that buck playing both leads ?

  33. M.... J....

I didn't like this album at first. I like it now. Guess I was expecting Sabbath. No this is just cool late 60s smirky guy in dark shades and dusty leathers revving up his Harley kind of music.

    M.... J....

I must be different, to me this was the best album of the time. The others were so boring but BOC had that je ne sais quoi.

    M.... J....

Buck is as good as Tony. 2 amazing bands.

    M.... J....

BÖC stands the test of time.
They shoulda been bigger than Kiss.

    M.... J....

@red_rogue They were. I wear the hook and cross on my left forearm. That's dedication.

  34. P.... L....

I saw Blue Oyster Cult live twice in 1974. Best show ever.

    P.... L....

Dude, Im jealous, but also envy you!

    P.... L....

Houston Astrodome. Of all the great bands there. BOC blew them all away!

  35. E.... K....

    my kind of music here

  36. J.... B....

I was fortunate to see them 3 times, Hammond Civic Center, Illiana Speedway, Grand Rapids MI. Love this band!!

  37. G.... B....

Wow, I had no idea one of BOC's first songs are about a guy running away from the RCMP.

    G.... B....

thought you said red hot chili peppers

    G.... B....

    Solomon Odonka huh?

  38. J.... M....

Great song and post. End riff becomes Red and Black on the Tyranny and Mutation album using same lyrics. Check out Stalk Forest Group version here on YouTube for the actual first version of this tune in a more psychedelic vein.

  39. D.... S....

Jeeze! Do any of you people type and forget where you were going or where your page is?

    D.... S....

Ya like all the.....wait.... what were we talkin' about?

  40. S.... N....

1.25 speed for the red and the black

    S.... N....

    Great suggestion

  41. A.... R....

The Red and the Black slowed down... nice.....

    A.... R....

+Angel Rodriguez This one came first from the first album, but so cool how they changed it for tyranny and mutation.Love both versions. genius.

  42. G.... B....

I've been a fan all these years and never heard their first album till today.
    W T F ?

    G.... B....

BOC was so fuk deep underground in the beginning, nobody knew. Of course we were all so fuk'n stoned all the time back then, couldn't remember shit anyway.

    G.... B....

Greg Berry Guess you weren't actually a fan, then huh?

    G.... B....

    Where you been?

    G.... B....

    WTF dude!

    G.... B....

Kinda did the same ,but fortunately I had a couple great record shops and I found it soon after the second came out. and also think this is a better album.

  43. M.... M....

the rcmp busted me in ottawa for spitting in public. because i am an american,i was banned from canada for 5 years......they got their man in the end

    M.... M....

+MICHAEL M spitting in public? is a crimen? wtf!

    M.... M....

You should have made a run to Chateau Frontenac.

  44. e.... m....

Love the cowbell skit but .....BOC rocks....

  45. J.... W....

Still, in my opinion, their BEST work.

  46. p.... ....

dam they really should of added some cow bell to this song

    p.... ....

@Tony Ponce haha ok but SNL did a skit you can youtube it under " SNL, don't fear the reaper" and you can watch Will Ferrel in a skit where they are rehearsing the song and he does an impression of one of the band members of B.O.C. who are rehearsing don't fear the reaper and gets hilariously obnoxious with the cow bell. Its freekin funny just youtube it and you will know why i am so childish you ass fuck. NO! you grow up man before i go and come find you. now you wouldn't want that would you. I didn't think so.Head munch!

    p.... ....

This definitely needs more cowbell. Everything sound better with cowbell.  You just can't have enough cowbell.

    p.... ....

+David Wilson I like wood blocks better, but I love Neal Peart.  But I play guitar, so what do I know?

    p.... ....

+pandarama67 They couldn't afford one yet...

    p.... ....

@Jim Dunmire Ok how about a kazoo

  47. k.... f....

great band, shitty, radio friendly production= not Sabbath

  48. W.... ....

I cant believe i didn't realise this was the red and the black but the mellow version

  49. K.... S....

    Red and Black?

    K.... S....

    Yeah but slower

    K.... S....

@dyr234 But it's very different; hard to tell which one is better.

  50. s.... l....

this was the best album they ever did - as valid today as the day it was released.

    s.... l....

"Secret Treaties" is on the same level...

  51. d.... ....

I've never heard this sound from Blue oyster cult.

    d.... ....

@daniel213141 The first three albums can all be listened to from front to back with no need to skip a single song.

    d.... ....

@LincolnFStern This man speaks the truth.

  52. D.... V....

Was on LSU campus when this LP debuted it was amazing and I think it was not only ahead of its time but began a revolution in rock!

    D.... V....

I was on LSD campus when i first heard this album too, what a coincidence!

    D.... V....

+Drew Fitz yeaaahh dudeee god bless hoffman!!!

    D.... V....

    And schwartz

    D.... V....

    The original *Heavy Metal* band✌

  53. K.... ....

    are these guys 70's???

    K.... ....

60 until 90 will depend greatly on the album. Many songs.

  54. d.... ....

and why the hell do i want to see a friggin talkin bull selling car insurance...really...i just wanted to hear GREAT music...screw ads...and the bull they rode in on...dam them...dam them all...BOC rocks...period..   :-)

  55. s.... ....

Great song! Definitely under-rated song from unappreciated band. Some of BOC's early stuff was just unbelievably creative, kick-ass hard rock. And the lyrics? These guys were songwriting Ph.D's. Just my opinion, though.

  56. J.... H....

Sometimes I wonder if the band would try this version of the song at their live shows, instead of The Red and the Black. I think it would be really cool. Nothing against the Red and the Black, but this song has a very cool rockin' vibe to it.

    J.... H....

I saw them do it at BB King's about 5 years ago.

  57. j.... s....

    Allen Lanier RIP

    j.... s....

    totally

  58. A.... ....

very very true,, maybe not always so 'hard' and overdoing..but BÖC tm*-style
is Just stand not making so much fuzz but still owns each and every butt within this galax with raw riffs, holdups, backbeats and a mystic way of perfection with e v e r y lil thing exactly where its supposed, (or not, makin it even more 'is it possible to rock it so good?' I almost cant contain it. Career Of Evil, Lips in the Hills, Dr Music, Hot rails, in thee, Deadline + 85% of thier full lineup. Best Band Ever.

  59. T.... ....

They did keep that haunting beauty as only they can write though.Their next album was another masterpiece [Spectures] & a hit to boot..Cultasuauris Erecttus is a METAL MASTERPIECE. Al the live albums R great! Agents Of Fortune did have 5 great songs though and was the breakthrough album the band needed.I have every one they have ever done and have seen them 18 times.I will add again the second and third albums and that first live album are in a class of their own. Gonna post some now on facebook

  60. T.... ....

If you have the first three, You have two of the greatest rock records ever released! If people did not have to make a living at this music thing I think they would have done another three like the first but..bands have to have hits or bye-bye record contract. They overhauled their music, learned how to write commericial music. I was SO DISSAPOINTED when I put the needle on Agents Of Fortune. I could not believe this was the same group.TYRANY & MUTATION & SECRET TREATIES R top 50 L.p.s EVER MADE!

  61. G.... R....

i am Glenn rich1 I played with a dozen odd bands but I was just a kid i write many lyircs for any one . I'm coming back so is aerosmith 3rd times a charm!

  62. G.... R....

I saw soft white under belly and it turned out to be the boc cherry hill NJ great surpise maybe '75? latin casino

  63. G.... R....

Rick Bernard was the bigest BOC fan ever. he took his life one week after halloween go with god rick rip

  64. T.... ....

    Secret Treaties

  65. R.... P....

i dunno dude, Ritchie Blackmore is some tough competition.

  66. J.... M....

I agree. Although their 4th album, "On Your Feet, Or On Your Knees" was also a really good album (being a live album of their 1st three). After that they went commercial. I bought Agents of Fortune, but none after that. Last days in May is my all time favorite!

  67. k.... j....

lesson learned: don't fuck with Mounties...trust me!

  68. T.... ....

My favorite BOC album is Secret treaties, then this. Also really like Tyranny. I also really enjoy Queen II, but my favorite is Sheer Heart Attack

  69. o.... ....

My favorite is Queen II... Which is your favorite BOC album?

  70. T.... ....

I feel the exact same way. Queen I-A Night At the Opera is the best. But they lost their sound later on....

  71. o.... ....

Yes early Queen... later Queen no......

  72. T.... ....

And I assume by your username youre also an early Queen fan... nice

  73. J.... ....

This album absolutely blew me away back in '72, still does today. No silence between the tracks, just one great song after another till you can't even catch your breath, except when you have to flip the LP (remember, Boomers?) Definitely in my Top 5 of All Time.

  74. C.... C....

the red and the black was released on a much later album as a remix and doesn't really do this song justice in my opinion

  75. B.... ....

    Shame isn't it?

  76. k.... j....

the RCMP are the greatest police force on the planet...they always get their man!

  77. G.... J....

How does this relate to The Red and the Black? I keep thinking it's like a sequel song to this.

  78. D.... L....

    2 Sheep disliked this.

  79. o.... ....

I have always liked these earlier BOC albums... some fans like the later albums....

  80. A.... ....

Imagine if we had YouTube when we were teenagers...

  81. n.... ....

@Kirke182 Dude, ALL of his riffs are sexy, Don't Fear the Reaper is one of my faves.

  82. m.... ....

Looks like one person was captured by the Canadian Mounties.

  83. M.... S....

    @NathanSGBrazil
This joke isn't funny any more.

  84. t.... ....

@Durandal1717 I don't know who (or what) Stalk-Forrest is, but props to you for being one of the few that realize that the opening cuts of BOC's first two albums are the same song with different titles and arrangements. I've never been able to determine which one I like more, but speed metal seems to have been born with 'The Red and The Black'!

  85. d.... ....

    who is the handsome one?

  86. P.... ....

@BlueOysterWizard The live albums are amazing as well,im guessing you got em by now....

  87. m.... ....

Has a country sound to it.

  88. C.... W....

GREAT title to this song !

  89. C.... W....

GREAT title to this song !

  90. Z.... ....

BOC's "Don't Fear the Reapers" era wouldn't hold a candle against this early era of "Soft White Underbelly underground stuff" , "Blues Oyster Cult 1972 debut " , "Tyranny & Mutation" and "Secret Treaties" .... Rock on Wizard .. great upload ...

  91. R.... ....

@olivejohn okok, I didn' know, but now I see, ahahah... thx

  92. O.... S....

@Rehgap that's because "the red and the black" is a re-recorded newly titled version of this song. it makes sense that they would be similar lol

  93. R.... ....

soooo similar to "the red and the black", no?

  94. K.... ....

@SPAZZOBOXER I've always wondered what the Mounties thought of this tune.

  95. k.... ....

@Kirke182 You are absolutely right! Incredible riff!

  96. M.... E....

th cd is great i found it in an old cd case i had, it mustve been something my dad left...thank god!

  97. W.... ....

@matmesko: He also liked Captain Beefheart.

  98. m.... ....

0:30 Classic BOC drum fill! The second 24K gem in a row from an all-time great album, and a good example of how BOC, at least in the early days, were more straight-up rock 'n roll than metal. To me they sound here like a phenomenally clever and ambitious bar band--which is a compliment. :-)

  99. C.... K....

@BlueOysterWizard Love "On Your Feet or On Your Knees" and "Some Enchanted Evening"! Thanks for all of the BOC!

  100. D.... ....

    1:08 is dope
