Blue Oyster Cult - I Love The Night Lyrics
That night her kiss told me it was over
I walked out late into the dark
The misty gloom seemed to soak up my sorrow
The further I went on
I felt a spreading calm
And the lovely lady in white was by my side
She said, “Like me I see you're walking alone
Won't you please stay?”
I couldn't look away
She said
I love the night
The day is OK and the sun can be fun but I live
To see those rays slip away
I love the night
If you will welcome me tonight
If only you had been there my dear
We could have shared this together
No mortal was meant to know such wonder
One look in the mirror told me so
Come darkness I'll see her again
Yes, I'm gonna go
'Cause now I know
I love the night
The day is OK and the sun can be fun but I live
To see those rays slip away
I love the night
I love the night
I love the night

Blue Oyster Cult I Love The Night Comments
I see the Oyster boys this weekend (Feb 9 2020). Hoping they do this masterpiece.
Sadly they are more likely to play the new song "Fight" .... which is 1,000 miles away from this one ... there is a new live version of this if you search "2014 Live Cleveland I Love the Night" it should come up ... it's fabulous ofc.
Well Steven, just got done and neither one! They played 1:45 - too short for my taste but it was all good old stuff. Shooting Shark may have been the highlight. The showering shards of beautiful notes coming off Buck's fingertips were majestic. ETI was airtight. Tatoo was badass. The Vigil and Last Days were displays of awesome guitar prowess. The encore of Dominance, Hot Rails and Cities was beyond riotous. They were having fun. Buck had a grin from ear to ear the whole time. Took my 12 year old son and passed the torch!
This song should be back on the radio. Its so chilling and perfect for a night drive.
Totally under rated song love it
After listening to this song-listen to Scorpions' 'yellow Raven' from 1977.
The original album version with Ulrich Roth on guitar.
If you like this...
Chills from the first chord. Shudders at 3:54.
I can't find words to explain how much in love I' m with this song
This song is so dreamy and mesmerizing. I listen to this song only 1 time a year. June 29th. Why? 'cause I don't want to wear this song out. I don't won't it to get old.
Idk why but this is hella soothing and calms me during nightly walks just taking in the moonlight or when I’m about to sleep
B.O.C. are a band who's songs provoke thought. They are teaching us to think. That is a good thing.
One of the best examples of Lydian mode in Rock

My favorite BOC album.
Me too 💋💋💋💋
As a DJ in the 80's I played this song as a add when I could. There was always phone response. Mostly....male. They would ask me to dedicate it to their lost love.....
One of the all-time greats that will forever live on.
Big BOC fan. This is my favorite of their songs
the beginning of this sort of reminds me of the goosebumps theme song
I’m glad to see someone still here after 11 years
@William Decode eh, I'm only 10

BOC IS COMING BACK BOIS!!!! 2020 NEW ALBUM ANNOUNCED!
One of their most underrated songs...
Sometimes you get a song that just, matches your wavelength, you know?
Want this to be played at my celebration of life cause i love the night
Every BÖC song I listen to someone always comments that it's their favorite. That just goes to show how great this band is.
Perfection !
What can I say about this amazing song, that hasn't been said/felt/thought about before......Yet I had just turned 19 when this LP was released, had been a HUGE fan of BOC since 1972, when I was in 7th grade.....and, out of ALL their fantastic music that I enjoy still to this day.......THIS song breaks my heart, makes me cry inside whenever I hear it/live it.....because I miss HER......and would follow her, love her....the lovely lady in white....by my side.....through eternity. Yes....I LOVE THE NIGHT.
wow, just wow, wonderful vibe for the nighttime
Wer hätte da nicht Lust mit ner schönen Frau an seiner Seite durch die späte Nacht zu cruisen...Ich liebe die Nacht.
Spectres was their best record, I think. Some beautiful guitar work on this song, and the reverb is awesome.
Just found this today going down a BOC rabbit hole.
BOC... so diverse, they spanned the entire musical spectrum.... I love the black and white era, maybe the most.. but to me they were the continuation of the Beatles in music. So amazing to listen to their progression through the 70’s into the eighties, “buck” has always had such a soulful quality to his playing and song writing that is to this day unique among guitar players. And with Eric and Alberts complimenting vocals they are rarely matched. Commenting here I know is preaching to the choir... but like so many I love to sit on my porch at night and just listen... now decades later and be taken to a place music today no longer goes... only memories can take us...
Awesome post Joe. You speak the truth!
I'd like to have a dollar for every joint smoked at their concerts
yup, good
This would be a great song to listen to while driving at night. Too bad the radio never plays it!
Hypnotic, charming, disarming, the wonder and power and poetic energy takes you on a nice ride for sure!!!😊🤓😎👍
fucking amazing song !!!
Love listening to these old songs, I have to wonder how a Music video would have looked for them.
Favorite song on the album! <3
Pure musical magic.
...........1977...........one UNFORGETTABLE YEAR............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What other band can be so smooth and slick, but still so full of menace and mystery?
Listen to "Monsters" from Cultosaurus Erectus by BOC & it becomes obvious that this band was capable of anything really ....
I would add ultra heavy, magisterial and deeply beautiful to your list of adjectives, and I would reply no one else. That's why I have been hooked on them since 1978.
Steven, good choice to exemplify their breadth and depth. Monsters astonished when it was first released in 1980, and it still does.
Added to my playlist of songs to listen while watching stars. Really haunting.
this was their best album.
Totally one of my fav B.O.C songs. This song helps me chill.
me too!
Blue oyster cult is one of the best most underrated bands that have ever been out there listen to the words listen to the music
Outside listening to this song as it turns night.🌚 Takes me to a simpler time even though I never lived in the 60s, 70s and 80s, etc.
Ugh. It's well past 7pm yet there's still a bit of light out. Daylight saving time approaches. The sun depresses me.
For you, pale image in that black mirror. Death’s kiss. Eternal mistress. Myself, the other one.
Killer song
If this song were to be the only thing I heard for the rest of my life I would be content.
I used to work as a radio dj at a small station in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the 90s. I ran a rock show on Thursday nights that featured "deep cuts" We played I Love the Night as well as much of BOC's catalog. It was a great gig! Unfortunately, the station was sold and turned into a country station. All of us djs were laid off and the station is now off satellite feed.
Very cool.
This song is so beautiful
No its about killing oneself!
Is this good??? Yaer fantastisc..
Great memories, love all the nights, down in AZ. Listening to B.O.C
Thomas Fish Currently making memories in AZ. Rock on brother!
If I ever saw her, she'd hold her finger to her lips to say no, I wasn't here. You didn't see me. Please don't share it. It will hurt you.
I didn't realize what was up. The Virgin Mary joined him that night. He thought he was lost, to the contrary, he was found.
Overly Sarcastic Productions sung it better tbh
One of the best orchestrated songs I've ever heard. The whole song is just perfection. The harmonies, the phrasing, the lyrics.
Damn being a depressed son of a bitch this brings a great soothing feel to me great song yo.
I love the day
The night is alright and the moon can be cool
but I live
to see that dark
break apart
I played the shit out of this album in high school, this song in particularly ,it still gives me chill's
Trying to find a blue oyster song. Out by 1980,81. Lyric 'I love u babe'. Wedding song. Can't find.
Might be "Death Valley Nights" ?? .... a great ballad on this album in 1977 ...
Must be Death Valley.
I can't believe this was the last song ever created in the whole world .... :/
I agree with all the sentiments shared here. It's magic!
I love this song. So pretty. Didn't know it was BOC. Thank you.
