the Temple of Set worships the Egyptian God Set, Lord of chaos and storms and violence. There is also an I Am Cult. Is this song combining some popular cult doctrines of the time?
I have heard BOC recorded their album with the spaceship and the alsation art in Westchester, NY in a church near where the old Process Church of the Final Judgement stayed in the 70's.

saw B.OC. in Denver at McNichols arena ,I think it was my 3rd concert. My sister fell I'll and passed the tickets on to me and my brother. It was the Black and the Blue tour and Black Sabbath cancelled at the last minute. Blue Oyster Cult played an extra long set to make up for it and I was hooked for life.....amazing.

The song as an absolute classic. I cranked is so many times back in the summer of 1980, when I first discovered this classic. That's funny I was just thinking to myself today (since I've been on a Blue oyster cult kick for the past month) that Buck Dharma's fretwork is absolute fire on this album. I list Tyranny and Mutation, Mirrors and Cultosaurus Erectus as my fav BOC albums; while I can find something good on all of their releases. All hail BOC!!!

If you close your eyes, you would swear this was a British Steel-era Judas Priest track. It snuck up on me on my random playlist and I was like 'I haven't heard this Judas Priest song before'. Blue Oyster Cult is a goddamn stealth metal band.

Oh they did a laser show alright! It was one of the most awe-inspiring displays I had ever seen and nothing since has come close. The beams of light were further intensified by the thick cloud of pot smoke filling the arena.

they mastered their pop rock heavy sound on agents of fortune and followed it up with the next 4.All cult classics.I grew up with them and this was a favorite party album of ours in 78 and 79.Totally transformed from their first 3 albums.The first album is so dark and my favorite.I just wish it sounded more like this.LOL

Christopher, I couldn't agree more about the top to bottom guitar work here.  Not just the blistering solo at the end (which will go on my Buck Dharma's Greatest Solos video when I get around to making it) but the whole thing - the riffing, that sliding sound, the slow part with that glorious, haunting tone from 2:38- 2: 48 - all of it.  It is one of his very best works.

Del Clayman I know this is way old...but so is B.O.C. (and me). I knew the guy that did some of their publicity at the time. He said some of the members felt this album was too commercial. It still is great though.

thinking the same thing..saw BOC 25 times live in 70' & 80's ...the dam best live band in the world & I'ver seen um all [not OSU marching band either]..sorry..."on your feet or on your knees" live album just iffin rocked.. Buck is such an underated lead guitarist & Joe Bouchard on drums is as good as Keith Moon in his heyday and as good as the kid from Missing Persons[good drummer] & Tommy Lee & the rest.. IMO
and the rest of band all underated as well

I think it's cool how for us hard cores, BOC is personal music, as you say Miles. It is frustrating how overlooked they are, but it seems that those of us who know their catalogue and who have taste, long ago discovered buried treasure and have gotten to keep it all to ourselves.

RoeserFan - aside from the stacks of great songs and musicianship it's that personal attachment and "getting it" that you feel with this band that you would never replicate with a Kiss, Zep, Sabs etc. There are bands I like (The Doors), bands I respect (Led Zep) but only one band that I absolutely f***king love ..............

This song and this solo just rips. Another stellar vocal by Eric, too.

I'd be happy if I heard a BÖC song on the radio... their all god, although I don't think the most famous songs are the best (but their great, because it wasn't longa ago I discovered Blue Öyster Cult). At least their most famous songs are better than Avicii!
My favourite song is Stairway to the stars. Pehaps it is good I have never heard it on the radio, because I would sing and dance immiediately in public :)

Me too, Don't Fear the Reaper and Burning for You where the songs that got me too look at other BOC. And they're still my favorite, but a lot of the other stuff, especially the mirrors and fire of unknown origin albums, are pretty good too.

This is the tour I first saw the Oyster boys (79), played the crap out of this casesette, there's a lot going on in this album but mostly irreplacbale ROCK&ROLL!

yer right, although i'm 50 yrs old and i dont ever remember "going thru the motions" being played on the radio.... Reaper, and burning for you are not my fave boc songs, but they are masterpieces along with all of the boc catologue.... the most underrated hard rock band of all time.... but i kinda like it that way, that way, they kinda belong to me personally.....

I've always been torn between the personal ownership and closeness I feel to this band i.e. they are not a Led Zep juggernaut vs another side of me wanting them to be massive and getting the credit they so richly deserve. We all know that no band has a stronger back catalogue than BOC, song after song, year after year .....

They all omit Ted Nugent. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!!!. Ok, so you dont like his politics thats ok. But to omit him from the list is a crime or the critics know nothing. TED in IMO is in the top 20 of great guitar players. Stranglehold alone puts him in that category, stormtroopin live is just bad ass Period!

In German, the letter following the umlaut can be replicated by "ae." typographically, it is the same thing so spät could be spaet if you wanted to, but in Germany, people often have a typewriter or smart phone with Umlauts (these days, anyway) so, for today more than you probably wanted to know about German typography from alan noblitt in Madison, Wis.

Six friends and I saw this legendary NYC powerhouse at the now defunct Premier Center in Sterling Heights, MI in the early 90's...a club bar setting. It was, in a word, unforgettable.
