Blue Oyster Cult - Harvest Moon Lyrics

This place has a history
The Spaniards settled here
They burned the town and fields
They moved away from here
My grandma often told me
She knew it peaceful here
The war took all the vigor
War took the best from here

Ahh ahh ahh ahh When the wind turns
Ahh ahh ahh ahh And blows the leaves from the trees
Ahh ahh ahh ahh Harvest moon

I see the days grow shorter
I feel the nights grow cold Harvest moon
Young people feelin' restless
Old people feelin' old Harvest moon
I sense the darkness clearer
I feel a presence here Harvest moon
A change in the weather
I love this time of year Harvest moon

The Cobys worked that valley
They gave that land a go
They built a thriving business
Then came that early snow
They lost their livestock that year
They lost their sheep and goats
They sold the farm in springtime
Went south to work the boats

Ahh ahh ahh ahh When the wind turns
Ahh ahh ahh ahh And blows the leaves from the trees
Ahh ahh ahh ahh Harvest moon

I see the days grow shorter
I feel the nights grow cold Harvest moon
Young people feelin' restless
Old people feelin' old Harvest moon
I sense the darkness clearer
I feel a presence here Harvest moon
A change in the weather
I love this time of year Harvest moon

Ten years in this farmhouse
Ten years come this May
My simple needs are covered
Since grandma passed away
Long time since there's been trouble
That's what the people say
I told the new man when I
Sold the farm today

Ahh ahh ahh ahh When the wind turns
Ahh ahh ahh ahh And blows the leaves from the trees
Ahh ahh ahh ahh Harvest moon

I sense the darkness clearer
I feel a presence here Harvest moon
A change in the weather
I feel some evil here Harvest moon
I hear some frightful noises
I don't go out at night Harvest moon
Since Bobrow's youngest daughter
Disappeared from sight Harvest moon

I know they'll find her some day
They find them all that way Harvest moon
After the thaw in springtime
The snow melts away Harvest moon
I see the days grow shorter
I feel the nights grow cold Harvest moon
Young people feelin' restless
Old people feelin' old Harvest moon

Blue Oyster Cult Harvest Moon Comments
  1. John Shirley

Speaking of BOC did you know there will be a NEW BLUE OYSTER CULT album coming out in 2020? It's from Frontier Records. I've heard several excellent songs on it and I'm only a little prejudiced because I wrote the lyrics for them.

  2. Larry Dye

Strange lyrics. The guy loves the farm while simultaneously fears it and feels trapped.

  3. Larry Dye

Great song. Love the album concept.

  4. TwistedSister/Haratiofales

The song was actually inspired by a supposed cursed farm in Nebraska, where a lot of people had died in and around that farm over several decades.

  5. Dr. Starbuck Capt. Galactic Federation

    Better 😡😁💋🥃 🎃

  6. MrRyuHayabusaGaiden

I've always wondered about these lines: "Since Bobrow's youngest daughter
    Disappeared from sight Harvest moon
I know they'll find her some day
They find them all that way Harvest moon" - is he hinting at a serial killer?

  7. Michael Bernier

What a great song, never heard it before!

  8. fish chandelier

commenting on Friday the 13th, on a full moon

  9. RoeserFan1

Full harvest moon on Friday the 13th, September 2019. Good time for a listen to this creepy, and awesome, tune.

  10. The Eye of Sauron

    Their best song

  11. Steam Powered Maniac

*Congratulations! You have inherited a farm!*
    *spooky noises*
*Congratulations! You have sold your farm!*

  12. Bruno Munemassa

The writing in this song is amazing, what gets me pumped is the aging of the character in the song that goes from "I love this time of year..." to "I feel some evil here..." as he grows older. Maybe whatever got the kids could've gotten him when he was younger...

  13. Del Shoemaker

    Totally different BOC

  14. Del Shoemaker

War took the best from here

  15. Brian Blaze

I do go to this song alot in Autumn but I also listen to it year round. It's summer now and I'm listening to it. BOC is magic.

  16. brent orrick

Great song been one of my favorites for awhile underratted

  17. ACrackInTheWall2006

This was the only song I liked from Heaven Forbid but I absolutely love this song!

  18. Aaron Street

What the hell? Why aren’t there tons of videos of people covering the solos?! I’m going to do something positive about it. I’ll send messages to all my favorite cover guys that do my favorite solos and request they try this one 👍🏻

  19. Dylan Scott

    Love this one from B.O.C.

My buddy said this one sounded like a 70s funk dance song. It *is* jiggy

  20. Monica Vicious

    This music is so beautiful

  21. Redwood65

Going to see them with my son in May. Can't wait.

    kenasu1258

Redwood65 Hey I’m going to see them with my son May 17

    kenasu1258

Saw them 5 times at the Cambria county war memorial Johnstown Pa every show unforgettable

    Redwood65

kenasu1258 May 26 Boone, IA for us.

    Redwood65

kenasu1258 The show will be a lifetime memory for us. Drove 6 hours to Iowa. Bought VIP section and was right up front 12 feet from Buck. I’ve seen a lot of concerts and this one was the best of them
all by far. Arm hairs were stuck straight up, goose bumps.

  22. Shaun Spare

Literally a ghost song but vice versa

  23. Bryan White

Three solos, one right after each other!! Totally awesome!!

  24. ELRAT BLUES

    love this form japan

  25. Chop Top Sawyer

I used to only listen around Halloween, fuck it, I can't get it out of my head, I'll listen whenever I want

  26. dcfanchris

Saw them do this song live.Buck introduced this song and thanked all 6 of the people who bought this album haha.

  27. Mark Sheppard

Just heard this song for the first time at a concert last night. Incredible. What songwriting skill. And yes, this band should be in the Hall of Fame.

    Steven Wilkinson

They're too good for that place ... always have been.

  28. withheld rather not say

    That guy’s face is melting

    Redwood65

"Like acid and oil, on a madman's face, reason tends to fly away." Lyrics from the song "Astronomy" . I recommend the version from the Imaginos album.

  29. LilGamez21

Yo, I'm finna get my ds and play some Harvest Moon and sell the farm haha.

  30. Joehandsis Licktenhoward

    Pretty spööky track.

  31. D B

Hey John carrico of Long Island you out there you remember Pete off of 10th Street and all the cult shows come back if you still out there

  32. The Mothman

I'm thinking about putting this song in a movie about skinwalker ranch, nobody steal this idea😬

  33. Person

Man I really wish they would put this back on spotify

  34. Sydney castiel12

me and my boyfriend just saw these guys!! east Greenwich Rhode island. it was amazing. I'm sad we wont be able to see a lot of our favorite bands and singers as many nof them are no longer touring. that being said we are seeing rolling stones in june. i wish music today would be comparably as good as it was back then.

  35. ShakespearesDaughter

    Exceptional

  36. fjoa123

Jeepers creepers, that solo at 2:17 is sick. Obliged replay every single time.

  37. Anthony Goodwin

One of the most underrated tracks

  38. Rob W

One of Buck's very best tunes. Of course it never got airplay. Music is just a business now. Fly on BOC!

  39. Useless

    sans gaming

  40. Angelo Ferreira

This song makes me wanna start farming and get married.

  41. Flash Gmaing

    Night in the Woods anyone?

  42. Debra Nelson

Speed guitar courtesy of Buck Dharma.

  43. Kevin v.

Damn, are these guys story tellers, or what?!!!!!!........ Absolutely awesome

  44. Rayne Rockatansky

Could anyone tell me if this song is based on a film or novel? Such kick ass lyrics and vibe, it would make for an excellent book..

    úlfhéðnar

actually, i think it was co writer by john Shirley the writer as well as most of the songs on this album.

  45. Duncan Bleak

    BOC at its' cryptic best.

  46. The Mothman

This should be in stranger things or something like that

  47. Terry Martin

    Halloween

  48. Damaged262

My favorite FOR SURE on this album, with I'd Like To See You In Black following up in a so close second. BOC with some metal again, they never needed to be a New World ELO. Though, imho, they were always better than ELO. Besides, the sound of saying BOC just sounds better than blurting out ELO, that always seemed like a shitty rip off.

  49. conjured_up_skeletons

Repulsive cover. Not artwork but garbage.

  50. Philippe Prétot

The problem is the art work lol

  53. hunpo1

I can't find this album on Pandora. Shame because it's amazing.

  54. JamienautMark2

I found BOC like a month ago and have been listening religiously since. Heaven Forbid, Imaginos, and Fire of Unknown Origin are amazing albums. Songs like Fireworks, Godzilla, and Reaper are too. How did it take me until my 20s to find them? Guess I never really looked for stuff like this until recently.

    úlfhéðnar

better late then never. welcome to the cult...

  55. Luna

  68. Gwen Sciora

i saw them at TILLES CENTER. Thank you BUCK>> AND DANNY >> AND KASIM>> AND JULES>>>>ERIC>>>>Richie...

  69. Ben Hinman

I have a personal connection to this song... Even though most of their stuff is high concepts about the occult, this song is about how places can get scars just like people, and people who have experienced the same kind of pain can feel a connection to the place they live in and feel it in the air. Places have souls.

    Bella Casey

    Ben Hinman I agree 100%

  70. Dwight Plock

very underrated band. seen boc in concert, but found in this another hidden gem.

  71. Psykodactyle

    Lucas Reinaud

Ville-Veikko Kangas i recommend you to listen perfect water, it sets a nice atmosphere

  78. Me Man

Such an ominous song. That last verse is chill inducing: "I know they'll find her someday, they find them all that. After the thaw in spring time...the snow melts away."
Burrrr. They find dead, frozen kids every spring.

  79. Emil Håkansson

Wtf this isnt on Spotify, had to come here to listen

  82. Andy Terrell

reminds me of the book House of Darkness House of Light which the film The Conjuring was loosely based on

  83. penguin99ify

More in line with Dharma's "Flat Out" solo album. Still one of the best bands ever.

  84. Igor Popovic

    Killer guitar work!!!

  85. Blaargon

Is it possible for Blue Oyster Cult to make a bad song? No, no it is not.

    Steven Wilkinson

Let Go, Beat Em Up, Rock Not War & a couple on the last album are close & the only tracks of theirs that I EVER skip ... but dozens & dozens of great songs such as this one .. overall just about the finest back catalogue in the history of classic rock bands ... :)

    David Smith

"She's as beautiful as a foot" for one.

    Blaargon

    Blasphemer!

    Steven Wilkinson

I can't go with you on that one David, everything on the first 3 albums is perfection ..
Oddly enough they just played Screams followed by Beautiful as a Foot at a recent UK concert ... after opening with Transmaniacon MC ..2 amazing hours, quite a night.

Such a beautiful song! Thank you BOC<3

    Disappointy TV

    you're welcome hot boi 🐷

  88. Steven Wilkinson

Loving this band since 1978 is like being involved in a 39 year conspiracy theory. I mean I know & you know this is the greatest classic rock band out there, right ?? Best songwriters, fine musicians & of course the ace that is Mr Buck Dharma. Can't & doesn't get any better than that especially if you like a little weirdness here & there.
Somehow though the general rock loving public remains largely ignorant. Incredible, never have & never will understand how this band could be any better .... masterful ... genius ..... No.1 by a Country mile.

    Pabensil

Somehow they’re not in the RoR hall of fame. I discovered them just over 2 years ago and they quickly have become my favorite band

  89. nick battershill

    Were B.O.C. under-rated?

  90. Lu Teixeira

    Is that about the game?

  91. myNamesTaken

the intro reminds me of silent Hill 3 for some reason

  92. B Jorge

Wondered if this was a neil young cover, pleased to find out much to the contrary.

    Steven Wilkinson

Both are fabulous songs but very different !!! Enjoy the great Buck Dharma on this one ...

  93. Paul Smith

    Why isn't this on iTunes?

  94. Luna

    Why isn't this on spotify...

    Golti

BeerJ I asked me the same

  95. ILoveFanService

Just realized it's "old people filling holes," not "old people feeling old." Should've known

    Eli Burry-Schnepp

    OOOOOOOOHHH
I hadn't realized, that makes so much sense

  96. LeatherRebel75

I picked up this album the day it came out, and I fell in love with it with the first listen.

  97. Ryun Anderson

Discovered this song on accident, still think it's their best song.

  98. Dan the Man

Gerry Rafferty, Stealers Wheel, Rush, Buckethead. I hear it all here.

  99. Rachel Rocks

I love this song. I've been a fan since I was like nine. I'm 13 now, too bad I didn't discover them earlier....
