Blue Oyster Cult - Del Rio's Song Lyrics
I've lived upon
The edge of chance
For twenty years or more
And this is what my friends all mean
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
When time gets slow, and rivers freeze
I think you'd know enough
To call in touch that outer frame
The inner gain, a sullen gulch
Which opens up on the way to Blindman's Bluff
A suburb now of River Roads
Where quandry and sublime improve
The sight whose imagery
Is sometimes that of fear
I've lived upon
The edge of chance
For twenty years or more
And this is what my friends all mean
By Del Rio's song.......Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
When time gets slow, and rivers freeze
I think you'd know enough
To shut the gates of walled town walls
And putting up some good rum punch
Forget the way to Blindman's Bluff
So packed with eyes
That glow like coals
And pointing towards the North
Oh my boat left New Orleans in 1829!
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
My destination is a secret
And the doctrine is soft
And just between the verse and me
It's a place where you can see
Lost, last and luminous
Scored to sky yet never found
Relics of jewels
And ant-track tools
A true ghost dance
Rehearsal Ground
I've lived upon
The edge of chance
For twenty years or more
And this is what my friends all mean
I've lived upon
The edge of chance
For twenty years or more
And this is what my friends all mean
By Del Rio's song.......Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio
Del Rio's Song..........Oh, Del Rio

Kristin Crumpler when I first heard these lyrics, I thought I heard "walled town walls" as "war time whores"; knowing BOC, I put nothing past them as intentional.
I'm reminded of Greatful Dead's: "when push comes to shove" perfectly in reverse; perfectly in consequence.
Such a good song. Fuck Donnie.
All I hear is Dorito Soul
Will the transcendental role player make an appearance in the 21st Century?
Ascension! That's all they said!
I had every BOC record up to and including this one, then I fell off the planet. Just how many albums did they put together?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Öyster_Cult_discography
named my fallout 4 character Desdanova Del Rio.... my kids didn't get it until I played both songs
Can codsworth pronounce it?
There's already a character in their called Desdanova isn't there?
I love this song so much
Sounds like Bobby Rondinelly on drums
I think it's actually Robby Krieger
The wrestler?
I've lived on the edge of chance for 20 years or more....
Me too Buddy... more than you can imagine! Lol... Dirt biker for life you know ;-)
Doriotos Song
+TheCAWstudios With Oyster Dip!
+elf man Explains needed for this one. For not american ones.
why doritos ??
near the end of the song it starts to devolve into sounding like "Doritos song" instead of "Del Rio's song"
Achieves total heaviosity
BEAUTIFULLLLLL!!!!.........*SONG!!!!*
que gran canción blue oyster cult sonaba diferente en los 80s
Oh, you were quoting. Did'nt get your post at first. Long live BOC and John Houlgate!
I LUV THIS FUCKING SONG !!!!!
b.o.c. rules
OH DORITO
how prophetic, The Raiders new coach is Jack Del Rio. Heavy Metal black and Silver, there's an eye in my hurricane.casting the shadow of California. Reminds me of the Golden Age of Leather. But it's well known that Al Davis made a Career of Evil.
+Tuxumino Wow. How associative.
Tuxumino and Alex del Rio is the qb for the gators!!!
And Sandy Pearlman lived out the end of his days in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Welcome.....to the Oakland Raiders....Coach
And a hole album is great! By Tinja ;D
What ever.............this song ROCKS! All BOC is kick-ASS!!!
+Barah Holloway U R so right. Love this tune.
BOC= Misunderstood and under-rated. No surprise here as the very best is rarely for the masses.
Rock on my Brother! :)
+Barah Holloway That's why their fans are so loyal and dedicated.
We get it, that's really all that matters. "We" as in all the great BOC fans :-)
"The only weak song on Imaginos IMO... it doesn't really fit."
Huh? It does fit. It's the part of the story where Imaginos gathers a bunch of men in New Orleans to help him sail a ship to Mexico to find lost treasures. It is on this trip that they get shipwrecked and he's rescued by a group of aliens, known as the Blue Oyster Cult.
Read the album's liner notes.
@BritishRG No sir, I actually read the liner notes and find other stuff put up by BOC fans who follow them more closely than I do.
Imaginos is a concept album. There's a story behind it. ** Read **.
@John Houlgate http://www.hotrails.co.uk/bocfaq/faq_04.htm#04_05
@John Houlgate ~Hey, thanks for this! A connection I should have made long ago... I even have my original $.50 worth of BOC lyrics for "Blue Oyster Cult" +"Tyranny & Mvtation" as printed out and mailed by Mr. Noneother than S. Pearlman himself, back in the day!..
Great reading thanks for the link. I do disagree with a vengeance that the so called big 3 Burning for you Godzilla and Don't fear the reaper are BOCs greatest songs Sandy Pearlman had to have been very close to the good folks "Chemists" producing Jesus Christ on the road with the Grateful Dead I bet he dosed a few times with Morrison too. Ya have to wonder, where else he could have come up with stuff like that. Very deep indeed ! Again thanks for the link
SOME OF THE BEST GUITAR WORK ON THE ALBUM
this song's about Jack Del Rio
tres bon
Dorito song...
you cant compare b.o.c to hagar or halen or anyone that started AFTER 1972 HELLO!
a slow version of the main melody in joan crawford
yup BOC rulez
After learning more about the Imaginos mythology, I imagine the scenes depicted in this song. Imaginos gets a group of guys together to head for Mexico and shows them the signs it's time to go ("When time gets slow and rivers freeze, I think you know enough..." They get drunk and party the night before they set sail, then merrily hoist the sails on their mighty ship and charge into the Gulf of Mexico full bore.... right into a nasty storm.
John Houlgate I realize it's been like 5 years or so since you commented this, but where can one read that sort of thing about the band?
Me too :) all böc's i got is vinyl
i dont no anyone of you except your listening to this
Great Scott! THAT is what this song reminds me of! Mr. Tambourine Man!
Albert Bouchard admitted the chorus is Mr Tambourine Man
This is better by far, i don't hear it at all.
I saw em a couple times godzilla
this song's about Jack Del Rio.
@SPAZZOBOXER well arent you an encyclopedia of facts? :) thanks for the info - but for a single, i always thought "blue oyster cult" was very catchy and maybe coulda made waves on rock radio of that time, as well as "astronomy:. this particular song is the most cheerful, thats for sure.
Damn! I love this song!
sounds like their saying dorits
@SPAZZOBOXER agree w/everything, but i kind of like the 80's style it has
i have this vynil :) It is special to me
Are you sure, as far as I know it was only released as a tape
@GeminoSmothers --ditto, can't stop playing it
@ghostAurora but it was before Van Hagar-----get it?
@ghostAurora I'd say a bit more Bob Dylan in its sound. Try singing along with "Hey Mr tambourine man play a song for me..."
Weak Song? The only weakness in this Album is that BOC didn't record all of it. But Del Rio's Song belongs up there with the best of them.
This is probably my favorite song on Imaginos. it just puts me in a good mood!
No, cb, the Leo I'm referring to is my old buddy that we became friends through music, especially BOC, and hanging out drinking, going after hot 80s "rocker" chicks, nice cars, etc. Oh, and by the way, BOC has been for about 40 years!
It's LEO's fault! (Old damn Leo)... lol
I like it
The only weak song on Imaginos IMO... it doesn't really fit.
I think they've had two BOC songs in Guitar Hero if you count the cover of "Cities on Flame".
best fuckin ever!! imaginos is genius!
As the verse kicks in, try singing "Hey Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me...." :-)
I love this album. Great to listen to on headphones, whilst high (not that I do that anymore).
F'in Great song. It rocks with the best of them. It's really too bad they don't play songs like this live. This would be a great live number.
Although this LP is a bit of an acquired taste/elusive delicacy for even long time BOC fans; the sheer talent, musicianship & studio "Generalship" of these experienced "Veterans of the Psychic Wars" shines through. Eric Bloom's distinctive vocals really resonate on this catchy, slick number. Although it would be interesting to hear this with less 80's style percusssion & a heavier mix,the addictive chorus/vibe of this track is mesmerizing, esp. after repeated loud listens on a quality stereo.
"Imaginos" may have the longest/most convoluted genesis of any "Theme" record in the History of R n'R. Lack of A&R support, MTV oriented/greedy/trend obsessed Execs., contractual/personnel issues, content objections, & all manner of production/marketing disagreements, probably doomed this "Concept" project from Commercial success from the start. It subsequently became the Oyster boys' last Columbia release. If they were going to market a single from this; "Del Rio's Song" should have been chosen.
