Blue Oyster Cult - Astronomy Lyrics

The clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Like acid and oil on a madman's face
His reason tends to fly away

Like lesser birds on the four winds
Like silver scrapes in May
Now the sands become a crust
And most of you have gone away

Come Susy dear, let's take a walk
Just out there upon the beach
I know you'll soon be married
And you want to know where the winds come from

Well it's never said at all
On the map that Carrie reads
Behind the clock back there you know
At the four winds bar

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Four winds at the four winds bar
Two doors locked and windows barred
One door let to take you in
The other one just mirrors it
Hey, hey, hey, hey

In hellish glare and inference
The other one's a duplicate
The queenly flux, eternal light
Or the light that never warms [repeat twice]

The clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Miss Carrie nurse and Suzy dear
Would find themselves at the four winds bar

It's the nexus of the crisis
The origin of storms
Just the place to hopelessly
Encounter time and then came me
Hey, hey, hey, hey

Call me Desdenova, eternal light
These gravely digs of mine
Will surely prove a sight
And don't forget my dog, fixed and consequent

Astronomy...a star [repeat indefinitely]

Not sure anybody really follows, sure as hell I don't.
For me personally my love for BOC is mostly about Buck Dharma bending and twisting my heartstrings

  43. John Shirley

Speaking of BOC did you know there will be a NEW BLUE OYSTER CULT album
coming out in 2020? It's from Frontier Records. I've heard several
excellent songs on it and I'm only a little prejudiced because I wrote
    the lyrics for them.

    Matt Cardin

    I had been hoping your
lyrical work would play a part in the new album, John! Now I'm even more excited.

    gobzdzilla

  50. Al Lee

He could pass for Gene Frenkle..

  51. janet holstrom

Blue Oyster Cult one of the most underrated bands of all time.

  52. Thorpenator

The Rock Hall is such a joke, if they ever induct these guys, they should tell them to go F. Themselves, and I'm from Cleveland.

  53. past the breakers

    Hyde from the '70s show.

  54. Dan Freeman

Underrated is one of the most overused words on YouTube.....

    Jerome Lund

    Underappreciated is apt.

  55. Steven Wiezbicki

Marshall will buoy, but Fender control.

  56. Hiccum Blurpaedius

I saw them Rockford Speedway July 4 1976 Bicentennial with Foghat, Heart, Steppenwolf, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. My cult settled Carroll county 1730. I do not know that much about music. I am poor . We need to hear more bombs and gunshots

  57. Necroglobule

I've got to be honest. There's one criticism I have with this performance.

    It needed more cowbell.

  58. Diahm Arsola

Clock strikes twelve and moon drops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Like acid and oil on a madman's face
His reasons tend to fly away
Like lesser birds on the four winds, yeah
    Like silver scrapes in May

  59. beefoneeto

As great as his outro solo is here the one Oct 26,1979 might be his greatest.

  60. Lemmy Bon

That guitar is causing goosebumps! 🤘🏻

  61. Scott Williams

Some enchanted evening is one of the best live sets recorded, astronomy is great on that one, get it now!

  62. hawkwind

Some enchanted evening is one of my favorite live albums of all time..the version of astronomy is epic!!

  63. Allen Lash

And they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet. That is pitiful. They put people in who have no business being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame like Janet Jackson. They must need their heads examined I think the hall is a joke..

    njkl

Do you understand that Janet Jackson is in the Hof because she was a pioneer.

    Allen Lash

@njkl she got in because she has a brother named Michael. Otherwise no one would have ever have heard of her

    kalikas FOF

The rock Hall of Fame is a joke, they put no rocker people, and true legends are out ,fuck them

  64. Thomas Farmer

When I get sick of listening to AC/DC and Motorhead I turn to B.O.C. and Uriah Heep for a different mood.

  65. Harmono

This is where 'Love is a Battlefield' comes from.

    Jerome Lund

    How so?

  66. David Vietri

I saw them at the Spectrum in 1975 with Ted Nugent opening up and ZZ Top closing.BOC was the best band by far.Blue Oyster Cult will always be an original band with their own sound.

  67. Kevin Blake

AH! the soft white under belly.

  68. mikebott

    The light that never warms.

  69. Jeff R.

Thank God that roadie became their front man, main singer guy back in those early days. Can you imagine (imaginos) the Cult without Bloom?

    darrellw dobson

    Tell us more.

  70. SEAN MORGAN

On tour forever! I love these guys. They always take you on a musical journey. Awesome band and Buck and Eric are still at it.

  71. powskier

Great performance but would have been better with more cowbell.

    darrellw dobson

    Muy muy Vaca Bell.

  72. Yu Wish

Yo, is that a hand-held laser pointer in 1976? Holy crap.

  73. Air Repair

Have never seen BOC but one day when those 10,000 guitars play.

  74. Arjun

    The birth of Metal!

  75. Steve Birchall

Saw them open for Aerosmith at the Cape Cod Colosseum in 74 they were awesome and got co headline set.On of if not the best pairings I ever saw,one great night of music in Rock's greatest era!!

    Steven Wiezbicki

Saw them that year in Springfield, Mass., in the brand-new Civic Center. Hydra -- Blue Oyster Cult -- Aerosmith. Each performance was great, but Blue Oyster Cult definitely stole the show. Me and the lads rushed to buy our first Blue Oyster Cult albums after that.

  76. HalFace

Great song! Id like to hear this before the remaster. It sounds like somebody ran it thru all plugins and noise reducers.

  77. Clyde Osborne

    BOC forever!

  78. DingleBuried

    Could use more cowbell.

  79. Joel Castaneda

    Eric Bloom ,Jeff Lynne hmmm

    powskier

Joel Castaneda Sorry, not Jeff Lynne. He was ELO and English. Same hair, though.

    Joel Castaneda

@powskier it was a joke, I know who they are, thanks

  80. Michael Maxwell

I have seen them so many times, they are a band I place in a category all their own. Underrated yet have inspired so many of our modern bands.

  81. Max McKinley

Tight! My fave BOC song and that's saying something!

This band never gets enough credit.. They are very uniquely their own thing with great musicianship and deep catelog.
I saw them then and I go see them now. Rock out til you clock out 🤘•_•🤘 !!!

  82. Eric Stevens

Soft White Underbelly...The Old Waldorf...444 Battery St. San Francisco...very, VERY stoned...
(There were 17 guitarists on stage.)

    Steven Wiezbicki

Is the term "Soft White Underbelly" (original name of the group) a reference to the southern coast of France in WWII, which, if invaded by the Allies instead of heavily-fortified Normandy, would have ended the war in 1944 and saved Eastern Europe from being taken by the Soviet Union? Cuz that's what southern France was referred to as during the war. But a secret treaty with the USSR allowed them to take Eastern Europe, see.

  83. Eric Stevens

I don't know what you have to smoke to enjoy this, but apparently I ingested some without realizing it ...

  84. Malok K

    Could have used some cowbell...

  85. mysterirhys

Eric Bloom should get mentioned as one of the great voices in rock.

    RoeserFan1

Absolutely. He's certainly better than Steven Tyler!

  86. elp5000

2/4/77, My very first concert, BOC, their amazing laser show, and The Ramones opened for them.. What a night..

  87. Boblobblaw88

Give me a 70's rock band any day. It all went to hell after that.

  88. Boblobblaw88

If Bloom had a flute who would he be? : )

  89. Joey Blue

    hmmm...........I was at that concert

  90. Kathy Jones

    Love that jumpsuit Eric's wearing!💞😊

  91. Kathy Jones

Incredible song and amazing vocals on Eric Bloom!!!

  92. Robert Osborn

Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom we’re a strong pairing, both underrated

  93. Frank Gross

By far, my most favorite BÖC song. This song made me buy all the albums/CDs of the band. More than "the Reaper" or "Burning For You". Amazing guitar by Buck Dharma.

  94. Jorge Felipe Gutierrez Rosas

This band it's the American Pink Floyd

  95. haarp35117

    The other one’s a duplicate

  96. David Brown

Oh my, saw them at Rockefellers in Houston, on this tour, what a show - very intimate, Eric shot a laser beam at the large mirrored ball and the place filled with stars!!
Watching Buck play at close ( yet respectful distance) was simply phenomenal..the man is a true master of his craft!!

    Godzilla!!

  97. Mak Tea

Great song, BD, a class guitarist who just gets on with it effortlessly😎

  98. Allen Peck

I shook hands with the entire band as they came off the ramp of the Pepsi Floating Stage, after a great fkn show in Pittsburgh, prob '89 or '90. I would have liked to have seen them w/the Bouchard bros., but Bloom, Roeser, and especially Allen Lanier, well, that was awesome. What A Great Day That Was! B.O.C.
