Blood, Sweat & Tears - Lisa, Listen To Me Lyrics

Once a girl I knew, all alone and unprepared.
Everyone she knew, running scared.
Then she found him or maybe he found her.
His were gentle words she had never heard before.

He said, "Lisa, listen to me,
Don't you know where you belong?
Darling, Lisa, you can tell me
You've been silent for too long."

Once another man took her on a younger day,
All a young girl can do is pray.
Then she found him or maybe he found her.
His were gentle words she had never heard before.
She had never heard before.

He said, "Lisa, listen to me,
Don't you know where you belong?
Darling, Lisa, you can tell me...
You've been silent for too long."

He said, "Lisa, listen to me,
Don't you know where you belong?
Darling, Lisa, you can tell me...
You've been silent for too long."

Once a girl I knew, all alone and unprepared.
Everyone she knew, running scared.
Then she found him or maybe he found her.
His were gentle words she had never heard before.
She had never heard before

  1. E.... S....

One of the most underrated bands of all time. Why aren't they in the rrhof?

  2. k.... ....

My twin daughters have just entered the 6th grade and are joining the band. They want to play saxophone, woo! Got that covered. I never could read music well but could play by ear and was thinking of pickin up the horn again. Now i have a reason! Pretty cool, gonna make them listen to good music like this.

  3. D.... B....

Thanks for posting, wormpiano!!! First heard in early June, 1971: grade 6, 3 weeks until summer break, a school field trip to the Wesco fertilizer plant in Calgary, AB. A great time to be alive and listening to a great BS&T song!

  9. k.... ....

Gets better every time i hear it. That song could have been 2 or 3 times as long and nobody would complain. Just plain good stuff.

  15. T.... ....

One of my favorite bands of all time.

  16. M.... C....

this is just a great song

  17. D.... S....

This song goes out to every female I've known named Lisa.

  18. r.... ....

Why isn't this group in the R^R Hall of fame. Damn shame.

  19. r.... d....

this is so good... its like a conspiracy

  20. S.... ....

In spite of a short  solo, Steve Katz's guitar is very sweet and impressive. I've thought that he is one the most underestimated guitarists.

  21. J.... M....

A soulful, heartfelt song delivered with great vocals and a great, great band - classic !

    J.... M....

    Great song, pure class

  22. k.... ....

...Was a young sax player in high school and spent a lot of time listening to great music like B,S, and T and Chicago. Great music from a great time. Not much this good has come out since. I still listen to this fondly...maybe i'll pick up the horn again someday...

  23. J.... R....

A classic, the beginning of which could have been from a Fastball song decades later.

The lyrics are simple but haunting, leaving you with vague knowledge of something, but you're not quite sure what. Only one person is named and she says and does nothing. The actors are referred to only by pronouns.

The music is richer and more complex than anything the Stones or led Zep were doing. The horn arrangement is crisp and the sax riff precise and perfect.

    J.... R....

+John Rogitz  - Well written.  Surprised however, you didn't highlight Bobby Colomby as probably the best damn drummer who ever lived.....or WILL live.

S výnimkou jednej skladby od autorov Holland Dozier Holland Take Me In Your Arms predstavili vlastné kompozície tvoriace mnoho žanrovú paletu piesni medzi ktorými vyniká jemná Lisa, Listen To Me s úžasným solom Freda Lipsiusa na alt saxofone alebo Cowboys and Indians a pieseň John The Baptist( Holy John) od bývalého zakladateľa skupiny Al Koopera s textom Terryho Kirkmana.Po koncerte skupiny 31. decembra 1971 v Anaheime odišli David Clayton-Thomas a Fred Lipsius.

  25. r.... ....

Please someone tell me why this group is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?. That also goes for the super group "Chicago" What a God damn shame.

    r.... ....

@raymoles they don't have room since putting ringo starr in twice.

    r.... ....

+jsilence418 - Ringo. A moderate drummer at best.

    r.... ....

  26. B.... ....

Darling Lisa, you can tell me. You've been silent for to long"!

  27. H.... ....

    That sax solo is perfection.

    H.... ....

  45. j.... ....

This was my favorite BS&T song. It was played on the air, but never really hit it big. Great song too.

  46. j.... ....

This was my favorite BS&T song. It was played on the air, but never really hit it big. Great song too.

  47. T.... ....

its like they mixed dixieland jazz and soul and rockand roll

  48. S.... I....

Does anyone know who the "Lisa" is that Halligan & Clayton-Thomas were referring to in the lyrics of this song?

  49. D.... T....

This ranks among their best tracks, the great sounding DCT and a great easygoing sax solo by Fred; all way ahead of its time. I can't even talk to the young kids today about this. It's still way over their heads.

  50. L.... M....

This has to be one of the best EVER. Amalgamating jazz and rock fusion. Brilliant.

  51. P.... M....

listen to my original music vids...no one else does :(

  52. 1.... ....

Bobby Colomby was one hell of a drummer -- can you hear that sophisticated poly rhythmic under and back beat but seeming simple and yet so smooth!! I grew up listening to this band and this drummer -- Great band and their tunes still work today!! especially today!!

  53. b.... ....

One of my all-time favorite B,S & T songs! Had the album on LP for many, many years. Bought the CD back in the '90s. Great (but short) Fred Lipsius sax solo. Those 3 albums from 1969-1971 will always be the quintessential B,S & T recordings.

  54. r.... ....

This and "John the Baptist" are the very best from this album. Always considered BST4 the very best BST album! After this all went down the hill...

  55. A.... V....

B S T The band that was ahead of their time for at least A century !! or maybe 4 ever !!

  56. e.... ....

Simply the ballziest voice in rock and roll

  57. c.... ....

this is a very good song!

  58. L.... W....

Thanks for posting this overlooked BS&T tune. Did David Clayton-Thomas write this one?

  59. C.... ....

    BS&T rule!!!!!!!!!
