Blood, Sweat & Tears - And When I Die Lyrics

I'm not scared of dying
And I, don't really care
If it's peace you find in dying
Well then, let the time be near

If it's peace you find in dying
Well then dying time is near
Just bundle up my coffin
'Cause it's cold way down there
I hear that it's
Cold way down there, yeah
Crazy cold, way down there

And when I die, and when I'm gone
There'll be, one child born
In this world
To carry on, to carry on

Now troubles are many
They're as
Deep as a well
I can swear there ain't no Heaven
But I pray there ain't no hell
Swear there ain't no Heaven
And I'll pray there ain't no hell
But I'll never know by livin'
Only my dyin' will tell, yes only my
Dyin' will tell, oh yeah
Only my dyin' will tell

And when I die, and when I'm gone
There'll be, one child born, in this world
To carry on, to carry on
Yeah yeah

Give me my freedom
For as long as I be
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
And all I ask of dyin' is to
Go natrually, only wanna
Go naturally
Here I go!
Hey hey
Here come the devil
Right behind
Look out children, here he come
Here he come, heyyy

Don't wanna go by the devil
Don't wanna go by the demon
Don't wanna go by satan
Don't wann die uneasy
Just let me go
Naturally

And when I die, and when I'm dead
Dead and gone
There'll be
One child born, in our world
To carry on, to carry on

Dec 27, 2019: In memory of Sgt Manuel R. Martinez, who was killed on Aug 22, 1975 south of Santa Fe. Manuel, 23, was a kind Marine who had a shy grin, a big heart and a gentle spirit. Manuel rolled his 240Z Datsun on his return to Albuquerque from his mining job in Farmington. After losing his car keys on the job, he tried to make up the time by speeding. He served in Okinawa Japan and had only been back in the states for a year. *For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 I LOVE YOU MANUEL, Katrina

I was going to college on the G.I. bill in 1968 after a tour in Vietnam, when this song was hot. It make me feel good for my future but sad for some of my friends who didn't come back.

I am one of millions of people who could not listen (to have records) with Western music ... this was the situation in the communist countries ... in an ex-communist country I was born and I live ... I do not As a child, I liked the native music, but the Western music (including from America) we were listening to (in terrible conditions of sound quality) on the radio ... in order to be able to take foreign stations, you had to have a good radio ... few people had (only in cities) radio ... in the country in the 50's it was not known what RADIO is ... things evolved a little, but there are no discs on the market or western music on radio ... I was already " drugged "by the charm of Western music, listening to the radio, but I found (hard) a source to buy music (on the black market) in the capital of the country..from my city in the capital were about 240 km .... we bought (high price) music (tape recordings) ... in the summer of 1972 in the seaside resort (near my hometown - 2 km) was a summer theater (in ae r free) ... one afternoon I went over there (to the theater) and saw a poster stating that the show "Blood, Sweat and Tears" will be performing ... I was crazy ... I couldn't believe it so something ... after a few days, the poster disappeared and it was announced that the show will no longer take place ... the country's dictator since then, after a visit to Mao's China. applied the "cultural revolution" and to us ... I was "destroyed" because I could not see LIFE a world-class band "at home" to me .... I will not forget this. until death ... who has not lived in a communist country, does not know what is communism ...

  14. L.... K....

Written by the Bronx prodigy, Laura Nyro, aged 16. Included on her debut LP February 1967.

  15. D.... H....

I hope that everyone else who left positive comments here and they comment section do indeed die fairly soon. I'm not saying like tomorrow or anyting but maybe in the next 10 years or so. Maybe then the misbegotten era between the Beatles and punk can just peter out for good and I won't ever have to hear this song again.

    D.... H....

Sounds like Planned Parenthood missed one. Make that appointment, sweetie. It's not too late.

  33. C.... E....

Written by the great Laura Nyro.

    C.... E....

Sad irony that she died at 49

    C.... E....

@sam kohen I sometimes wonder if she foresaw that fact that her life would be short & maybe that's partly what drove her to accomplish so much in that short amount of time-very possible.

  34. d.... b....

In 55 years of living , endless learning/reading/discovering like a voracious shark, all along the way.....I've never come across the likes of this man. A sprite, a clown, an elf, a saint, imperfect in his perfection, I love and respect him as the greatest human I have ever come across. Read all you can about him and copy him. He is all I aspire to be, and never will be. The Earth was fortunate to have him walk on it, and he will be the first in Heaven I run to meet. A guiding light for all who would aspire to be good, fair, nice, and noble. We humans do not deserve the likes of him. After all I have learned, he reminds me of how frail and silly I am in comparison. He destroys my arrogance, and simply makes me love.

  35. 6.... ....

I hope that this song is true -

  36. J.... G....

And when I die I want no friends to cry for me...just homeless hyppies to play my MUSIC and dance...

    welcome back bro ..dinky dau..!!!!

  66. P.... S....

David Clayton Thomas and Burton Cummings from The Guess Who are the best pop/rock singers from the 60's and 70's in my opinion. Phenomenal voices.

    P.... S....

Gary Puckett wasn't too shabby, either.

    P.... S....

I'll have to look him up. Thanks!

  67. P.... S....

I can't even categorize this song other than it's great music. And I suppose in the end that's all that matters.

  68. P.... S....

These guys were amazing and way ahead of their time musically. SO underrated.

  69. P.... S....

I heard this was Bruce Lee's favorite song. Not sure if that's true or not. But kinda spooky since he died young...

  70. Y.... M....

1 of my All Time Favorites!!!! :)

  71. T.... M....

This was the first well-known band I ever saw in concert, at The Fillmore East on December 27, 1969. I was only 15 years old. They headlined, with Appaloosa and The Allman Brothers on the bill.
Me and several of my friends, all from the NJ 'burbs, saw many concerts there, but this was the first.
We went as BS&T fans but left as Allman Brothers fans.
It was a remarkable time for music and luckily I was in the best place to hear and see it. I had an olfactory flashback of weed wafting through the Fillmore as I wrote this.

  72. L.... F....

    Ya ya! 💋

  73. J.... S....

Told my neighbor a few days ago that I was getting too old to be cutting grass every week. He looked at me, smiled, and said it was better that I was looking down at the grass than up.

    N.... B....

  83. C.... W....

We've been posting this in celebration of a dear friend's life (he played sax in bands like this). I agree with others about having greater perspective about this song as I've grown older.

  84. G.... B....

Wanted to hear this song for a longest time, did not know who sang or the title of the song very glad I came across it.

  85. J.... D....

They were the BEST band ever! I’m sure that is debatable. But, in my mind they were the best.

  86. e.... ....

Start to finish, one of the best albums ever!

  87. D.... B....

    Patrick Sharp ♥️

    P.... S....

    Yep bro

  89. P.... S....

These guys would have been AWESOME playing for Van Morrison! Could you imagine their horn section on a song like Domino?! That would be awesome!

  90. P.... S....

DCT has more soul than most black singers combined. Not racist or anything just saying. The dudes a powerful singer!

  91. P.... S....

I heard somewhere that Bruce Lee loved this song? Any truth to that?

  92. P.... S....

I swear there IS a heaven and that David Clayton Thomas deserves to be there when it's his time to go. Thank you for your voice and music/songs sir! Respect.

  93. P.... S....

THIS is gospel/soul music right here! These guys are mind blowing musician's! The real deal! Respect.

  94. P.... S....

This song is so weird and wonderful and brilliant all at once. Bittersweet but comforting at the same time. Love the 60's sounding harpsichord and the "western cowboy" yee haw "hoe down" sound in the middle. These guys were brilliant musicians and WAY ahead of their time. I'm only 35 but I can hear the brilliance in this.

  95. P.... S....

David Clayton Thomas and Burton Cummings from The Guess Who are the two greatest 60's pop/rock singers in my opinion. Listen to the PASSION in DCT's voice on this song! This song entertains and MOVES me! Respect to these dudes. They're the real deal. Not like today's auto tune pro tools crap "music"....

  96. D.... C....

my Dad died quickly from a heart attack, sounds like his anthem

    D.... C....

My Dad did too. I was 11 and I dreamed about it 3 days before it happened. It's the reason I could handle calling for the ambulance, because my Mom was so upset, she couldn't even Dial the phone. 1975

  97. R.... H....

Why would 392 people thumbs down this. ?
