Blind Melon - Drive Lyrics
His feet are dirty
And his face, his face is long
And while he's peeking out
Through his hair he hides the pain
Till that Lennon song comes along
Jimmy, we need to borrow this for a minute
Cause we need to escape
Now there's so many things that
He's gonna do in 5 lifetimes
Hell I could do 'em all
Yeah and while he's rolling his own smokes
He says to me he's buying a new ride today
A classic deal the boss will give
You've seen that sweaty jet rag
Feeling come over him, and I've
Seen that boy nod into a dream a time or two
And on his way out his glazed stare
Will make you stop and wonder
Hey William is that the last time
I'm gonna look at you?
But the next day phone will ring
And it will be him
Can you drive?
Jimmy, what would you say
what would you do
Oh should I pray?
Or do you think that this blind mind
would listen to me, anyway

Fuck what a song
'cuz I really need to escape,.....
Yes, I NEED to escape....
His feet are dirty
And his face, his face is long
And while he's peeking out
Through his hair he hides the pain
Till that Lennon song comes along
He'll turn it off and say can you drive?
Jimmy, we need to borrow this for a minute

Timeless music. RIP Shannon, and thanks for blessing us with your music in your short time here.
I've been playing this & "Sleepyhouse" on repeat ever since finding out Blind Melon is playing Kaboo San Diego this September!. Don't know the new singer Travis, but I hope he brings it since I haven't hung out with the band since 1992. RIP Shannon, you are missed my friend.
You spelled Jimi wrong in the lyrics, will the wind ever remember his name?
I miss Shannon so much I think of what might have been if he would have lived.
Yes I would listen
I feel like crying listening to this song
When I feel overwhelmed I play this, sleepyhouse, I wonder, or soup. Close my eyes and listen. Calms me down.
Gran banda era Blind Melon, genios, que descanse el maestro Shannon Hoon
So glad Shannon shared his gift with the world. His love has penetrated millions and millions of truth-seeking souls.
Listening this to this is like a relapse into clarity.
... I need to borrow this for a minute ...
This song is so dreamy.
All i can say is "Can YOU drive, drive drrrriive! I saw the them at Electric Ballroom in late 92? They pulled me in that nite ,fell in love virtually instantly
Y'all know which Lennon song he refers to? Maybe "Cold Turkey"?
Heroin shannon killed shannon??
One of ths best songs this great band ever did.....
God and psilocybin mushrooms told me that the mushrooms purpose is to merge the left and right side of our brains
There's so many things that he's gonna do
Hell, in my lifetime,
I couldnt do them all
"Say, William, it that the last time I'm gonna look at you".................❤❤🍉🍉😇
Some of the greatest of all time
Happy Birthday 1 day late Shannon! I shall rock Blind Melon in your honor, as always!!
This song and Sleepyhouse is giving me what no other drug has given me before. This is what true euphoria feels like. I can feel my heart fluttering and tears welling up in my eyes.
I agree same with the song soup makes me cry
jack master ah shit soup forgot about that thanks for the reminder!!
The two songs from this album that I listen to on repeat especially since they are playing Kaboo San Diego this September.
@Gregory Ross a fellow Oaklander in the house 👊
It’s a just a deep as fuck song that not a lot of people know about... still.
Now the question is, do you have enough money for Uber
now that guy can look in the mirror.☺
This song is about a man who would constantly ask them for a ride so he could pick up heroin. Great song.
Andromeda- Yes, and in their bio," An Angel on One Shoulder, a Devil on the Other" it finally reveals that the band states, "that Lennon song" was "Mother" the gut-wrenching Lennon song, my husbands' personal fav of Lennon's. Great song, very emotional, if you guys haven't heard it, you should. One of their best songs...
His name was william Axle Rose you might of heard of him they were good mates
i love this song. it makes me think of when i lived in kalamazoo
taybee's and bliindbaby chillin' like Villians
Katherine Graf .......too funny says Blindbaby.....
Shannon Hoon used to sing with so much soul! R.I.P.
It's about a guy Shannon worked with who always asked for a ride.
yes, I really need to escape...
The next day, the phone'll ring.... It'll be him...
"Can you drive?"
can do !!!!!!
cuz I really need to escape.........
Yes, I need to escape
"Hey, William, is that the last time I'm gonna look at you?"..................💝
And I've seen that boy nod.... Into a dream a time or two........
.
✌
@Mustang Man Can u drive???
Thankfully, I saw him yesterday
(William, that is!!!)😇
This band never got the notoriety it deserves because of Rain. I listen to this whole album straight through and skip that song. Blind Melon underrated because of a little girl dancing in a bumble bee costume. Damn shame
David Mix that little song called no rain with the little bee girl got them famous and is still the only song played almost every where you go. It's how most people remember this band. For me tho, I love 99% of all thier songs and is pretty much the only 90s band that I still play til this very day
This takes me back......my first car....a 1983 dodge 600....black....bought from my friend for $600. This one was played in the tape deck a lot :-). It was also played a lot in my second car.....my 1992 ford taurus...
cute as can be ; brave!!!!!!
Cool, story. I can appreciate it, I have a similar experience just different car. This album is special.
Kan u drive?!?
I love this song so much when I was little me and my dad would sit up at our cabin by the fire and play this song and sit together, this is probably one of their best songs 😊
Doing things like that is what this song is made for
going through the worst time in my life and only shannon could relate... RIP your music helps me make it through another day
he said the same thing two weeks ago
great line, lyric
I dedicate this communication to all the no good whores who think they can just take a guy's kid.
he's growing up just like us baby!
+Daniel Ventre im going through that right now... havent seen my daughter in almost 3 weeks
David Slocum keep on keeping on
20 years and this song still makes me stop everything and sing! yes, sing, loudly!!!! I was 18 when this album came out, bought it, and never stopped listening for 2 years. Fast forward 20 years, and it makes more sense having been a heroin addict, and now in recovery, I still listen, but will NOT be sad. I WILL CELEBRATE SHANNON!!!
+MarkasTZM did someone say... NAZI??!!
fuck you junkie
mike hunt shut your mouth stupid fuck
supafuckinmingster you know locking up drug addicts is proven to not help them or society. the USA is behind the times. look at Scandinavia or other countries. people may argue against this but doing drugs is a victimless crime. maybe you should be locking up the pharmaceutical companies . you sound like your in a currupt business.
omg.. i could have written this
rest in peace Shannon Hoon. Never met you or the rest of blind melon. but you will always be part of me.
well put
Best band ever...............
one of my favorites!
supafuckinmingster amen
Blind Melon Underrated Band and Best Band ever!!! They should have been HUGE!!! SHANNON left us way too soon!!! What a voice so much Soul and Passion!!
supafuckinmingster agreed, especially this album. Hell its all great to me, lol.
Michael Pal Shannon was the truth brother
Such a soulful voice!! You could feel is spirit pouring out in his words! When they did on the tiles for the zep tribute. Robert plant said it was his favorite track. He also said that he believed they could go where zep had. Miss ya shannon!
there's so many things that he's gonna do ---- in 5 lifetimes i couldn't do em all...
so much love for this song
drive alone
its good like malto meal or like nothing bad
Not at all unlike a big grizzly bar comin out of the closet to eat you whole.
This blind mind always listens to you Shanny! Thank you
The Lennon song is mother almost certain
Shannon, I love you. These lyrics are absolutely brilliant.
I dislike the black keys greatly. I feel now they are trying to make sports anthems and good for them. Make money, but its not for me
In my opinion, you should give The Black Keys a try... they are from the 2000's and play ol' good blues and rock
ODing on cocaine must have been horrible. Ar least with heroin you are in a dream...with coke you would feel your heart stop and not be able to help it. RIP dude...you chose a rough path man....
It's called getting old, LOL. I know what you mean though. I hardly listen to music anymore but when I do it's usually older stuff from back in my younger days.
plus good singers
agreed man agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
has anyone seen a live version of this played?
Marc Brumbaugh Yes, the one on the Tones Of Home single
Hey they played this at the Library? Early 90's knoxville
all of blind melons music helps me get through the withdrawls of opiate addiction i know its bad to say but i just want ppl to know how powerful this music is to some of us...
Realize? Is that opinion or fact? And can you substantiate it?
Me too! He had it all!!
Hope you're resting in peace Shannon.
And Andy Wood
I think Chris Cornell hit the high notes better, personally. But overall I prefer Shannon's vocals
Shannon Hoon- one of the very few male singers who could sing in a high range without sounding neutered
doesn't anyone realize that Shannon Hoon wrote this song about his buddy W. Axl Rose?
awsome man
View my vidios
Love how at 1:45 the play a little wind cries mary and he says "jimi need to borrow this one"
what Lennon song do you think he is talking about?
In " An Angel on One Shoulder, a Devil on the Other", the authorized band bio, the band states it was Lennon's solo song "Mother" the rip -your-guts -out song he wrote in homage/conflict to his own mother, long deceased. It's my husbands' favorite Lennon song, probably his most emotional, and if you've never heard it, you should. Unbelivable.
@diegopizzaandtacos Yes, shame they disappeared so young!
@awhiteman1986 Thanks man.
@1971SuperLead some of us are not men to grow old are soul are to youthful. life just works that way but im sure you miss your friends
blind melon was the hippy band of the 90s. love this song, no rain, change, sleepyhouse, candy says, and soup
What has happened to music these days? I honestly can't think of one current band I like or listen to...I just constantly listen to the music of my past.
Joplin, Morrison, Hendrix, Allman, Moon, Manuel, Cobain, Hoon, Staley, and the midget from Kid Rock..... RIP
I used to know a lot of people like Shannon back in the day. They're all gone now.
People classify this as alternative or grunge yet I've been listening to Blind Melon pretty much my whole existence and yet classify it as purely rock or anything else for that matter but if you just sit and really listen you hear........ That's right the blues. The riffs alone are in incredible. The whine of shannon' voice off the wall put them together you have awesomeness and perfection. Call it what you want but to me it's the greatest sound of all time with that classic blues twang
Timeless and unique sound.
One of the best Melon's songs !
@Butcher79able same here!
Oh, Jimi.
poetic!
@diegopizzaandtacos omg yes
KURT COBAIN
SHANNON HOON
LAYNE STALEY
GENIUS!!!
STING, Shannon Hoon and Perry Ferrel.. Three of the most distinctive male voices in music. I encourage all those with high voices like this, that aren't feminine high.. but just high in a tone I can't describe correctly, to get into singing. Can anybody reply with the title of the song that the new lead singer sang.. and how many years ago it was? I thought it was brand new, but somebody on FB told me it was actually a few years ago they had the new singer and the album didn't do as good?
@ISENHART00001 you never saw him again?
@rydawg1977 Your are soo lucky im 14 I would have rather grew up in the 90s then to have been born in the 90s:) I play this song over and over I used to play it a lot last year and I often feel asleep to it alot!
@ISENHART00001 OH MY
Or do you think this blind mind would listen to me ANYWAYYY!!!!
@ISENHART00001 Damn dude...
@ISENHART00001 bull shit
@njgaynor you know i relized that after i left the comment and for some reason it wouldnt delete so it stayed. i'll delete now so i no longer look like an idiot lol
one of the most influencial albums of my entire existance
@ISENHART00001 ....wow, unbelievable! You must have some kind of preternatural connection with Blind Melon's music.....amazing! but I'm sorry you never saw william again :( God bless William!!!

@ISENHART00001 "but the next day the phone will ring and it will be him"
this song has always touched my soul & i don't even know why, it's just such a real story about real people. man, i love & miss shannon so much!!!
