I wanted to learn this song on Panflute, so I pulled up Rainbow's version as well as Blackmore's to learn the song. Hands down, I love this version so much more: Candice's voice makes the whole song so mythical and Richie's guitar work gives the song that shade of darkness that makes it so amazing. By the way the song is in the key of D major.

of course blackmore's done better than others. 1 of the best thing I've heard in my 50 years. Ritchie is a guitar god he taught many and made them guitar legends but unfortunately they don't give him any credit. look at yngwie such an asshole.

I don't care a whole lot for Yngwie"s stubbornness in persisting in the same scalar runs and arpeggios he's played for decades.  However, he does and always has credited Blackmore as his inspiration.  In particular, the Fireball album.

I have never heard of this band but Temple of the king is my all time favorite song, I'll have to look into them

-16th Century Greensleeves (very good, but can't beat Dio's singing)
-Ariel (not bad, but it lacks the power of thr original)
-Rainbow Eyes (absolutely perfect, maybe better than the original...maybe)
-Self Portrait (just as good as the original, but in completely different ways)

Blackmore's Night seems better, to me

Vocals are Ritchie Blackmore's wife Candace. But we all knew that.

Guitar solo seems to come out of nowhere - spot the edit! Always good to see Blackmore doing what he loves, but oh boy what we'd have given for a reunion with Dio. Interesting to hear a lounge lizard version of this classic, though. :)
