Black Sabbath - Over To You Lyrics

Born in a window
Nobody's fool
Raised in a prison
You called a school
Taught your religion
Told what to do
I handed my childhood
Over to you

Traveling endlessly, I'm searching my mind
I'm almost afraid of what I will find
Wandering aimlessly, oh what can I do?
I handed my future over to you, to you

Over to you
Future looks blue
What can I do?

Working for freedom
Fighting your wars
Feeding our children
Keeping your laws
Someday you'll suffer
Then what I'll do
I'll hand all your promises
Over to you

Standing inside myself, I'm losing control
You made me believe in the stories you told
Waiting impatiently, what else can I do?
I handed my future over to you, to you

Over to you
Future looks blue
What can I do?

Tears full of sadness
Sealed in my cell
Whispering secrets
What do they tell?
Mad politicians
Can't tell it true
I handed my children
Over to you

All over, over to you
All over, over to you
All over, over to you...

Black Sabbath Over To You Comments
  1. K.... M....

Blows my mind that people thought this was the downfall of Sabbath. This should have been the beginning! I wish they could have worked it out.

  2. E.... L....

Can I just say how incredibly underrated this song is?

  3. A.... T....

Dig the tits off this album. Show some love ..

  4. M.... G....

Yes it needs a total remix and leave out some stuff. Cluttered in spots.

  5. A.... A....

In many ways this song reminds me of The Rover by Led Zeppelin.

  6. k.... k....

  9. S.... B....

People judge sabbath for trying to change !!! They are a talent unrivalled in what they play! All bands take different directions it's called moving on and experimenting it's the talent they possess accept or listen to justin bieber??? Example once met a guy who loved Yes, so do I, but he wasn't interested in anything else, bands change, likes dislikes boredom, don't knock because they spread there wings

  10. E.... H....

Ozzy's voice, guitar and the piano makes this song so mystic

  11. b.... ....

My goodness I fucking love this song....

  12. L.... B....

questo brano ed in particolare le inflessioni geniali della voce di Ozzy (..sempre così maledettamente efficace) generano in me una meravigliosa confusione di stati d'animo

  13. I.... a....

I literally feel younger listening to this. And I was born in 89 😂

    I.... a....

I feel almost the same way. For some strange reason I feel a sensation of freedom and youth even tho I'm 24 lmao

    I.... a....

Inner and Outer Earth Learning Channel me too, and I was born in 1966.

  14. z.... ....

It´s a wonderful song! Sorry my swedish!

  19. z.... ....

It is a fantastic song/melody all together. Nothing more to say! It´s a fact.

  20. A.... E....

    That bridge is beuitiful

    A.... E....

This is a fantastic musical album

  21. a.... ....

This album got a bad rap because the band trashed it when they talked about it and the bandmates were not in good condition to promote it. It's actually a accessible album and a big improvement in songwriting over the predecessor. A bit of a precursor to Ozzy's solo material and where Sab would head with Dio.

  22. Z.... 6....

In my opinion these are the correct lyrics: Born in the window NOBODY'S FOOL raised in a prison you called it school GOT NO RELIGIONS don't know what to do I've handed my childhood over to you......over to you future looks GLOOM what can I do. ....( I'll skip to a later verse cuz the lyrics I'm not including are rather obvious) ...tears full of sadness STILL in myself WHISPERING SECRETS what do they tell mad politicians can't tell their truth I've handed my ...etc.

  23. C.... B....

killer ! - Chip Barkhouse The Drummist

  24. T.... B....

Iommi was trying to be Forigner and other bands of that era...they still don't know they created...the I.e...scary music and that thrash metal sound..like volume 4 ect

    T.... B....

I think you mean Doom sound

    T.... B....

Judas Priest, and Motorhead had way more impact on the Thrash sound

    T.... B....

    @Thomas Sibley agreed

  25. J.... M....

El mejor grupo pesado de rock después de Led Zeppelin

  26. E.... H....

    Cool album cover too!!

  27. B.... T....

I can see where the band started on different paths with this album.

  28. T.... ....

    This album Sucks.

    T.... ....

You suck too. Now you're bloody even. How do you like them f'ing apples????

    T.... ....

    you suck!!

    T.... ....

    Nah. Doesnt sound like it.

    T.... ....

    It really doesn’t

    T.... ....

    I'm sure your album's better.

  35. J.... J....

    The OTHER Fab Four!

  36. J.... M....

THIS was the 2nd album I ever purchased. 1st one was Iron Maiden # of the beast.

  37. G.... L....

Really love Ozzys Vocals in this song it just has a KILLER Rock tone!!!!!!!

  38. D.... C....

I really don't give 2 shits what other people think about this album I was listening to Black Sabbath in the early 70s many years before most of these so called critics were born this a really good album some of it sounds like ozzys solo stuff but it's BS don't compare it to the early years ALL BANDS change a little or a lot BS has managed to stay true to their sound it's not we sold our souls for rockN roll but it's Black Sabbath different but really good if you don't agree your not really familiar with this band

    D.... C....

I agree, its ironic in regards to the band's situation and people's expectations but this is my favorite. Sometimes your soul sings the most in the hardest of times.

  39. M.... B....

The songs on this album are fine. But it needs a remix and the guitar sound more upfront.

  40. B.... C....

feels very 1970's Americana, love this song!!!

  41. b.... ....

    who else feels it?

    b.... ....

    Right in my soul!

    b.... ....

Once I listened to the words it creeped me since 1980

    b.... ....

    billysaz1 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

  42. b.... ....

    ...and again..and again..and again.....waiting impatiently...what else can i do (*_*)

  43. b.... ....

I prolly listened to this tune more than any other other in my 51 years on the planet...and going strong... I give zero fucks about all the new bullshit!!!

  44. b.... ....

    I can, literally, listen to this track for 2 hours straight, on replay,...and I do. It gets into the soothing part of my brain...and wants to stay there (**_) I love all the passion and inflections in Ozzy's melodic voice floating over the "just right" placement of Tony's rhythms & riffs, Geezer's back-bone bass swaying, and Billy's timing and filling (like no other has or ever could do). Here I go...replaying and replaying (_**) (**_) (_**) LOVE IT LIKE A MADMAN !!! (*_^}

    b.... ....

same here - never get tired of it, even Hard Road gets major repeat - in fact I can put the whole album on repeat

    b.... ....

i aint listenf d to it in years but it's going on a playlist any second now 👀👓🤓

    b.... ....

I get that with fairies wear boots and especially that intro from hand of doom. This one is up there as well.

    b.... ....

@Okanagan Summers Hard Road is a gem. So heavy and it stick to your brain with those riffs.

    b.... ....

    billysaz1 I don’t know how I missed this record🍁💕

  45. i.... w....

Best sabbath Album, there I said it !

    i.... w....

All of their albums got it.

    i.... w....

    The best

    i.... w....

Agreed. Great from start to finish.

    i.... w....

    For sure top 3

    i.... w....

    Hell no.

  46. n.... ....

This was released when "yacht rock" began dominating the airwaves. Black Sabbath decided to embrace the "smooth" with schmaltzy lyrics and passages adorned with Liberace-esque piano phrasing. The only thing missing is the signature Michael McDonald backup falsetto vocals.........

    n.... ....

@Jonh Monroney Yacht Rock, that music era from 1976 until 1983 when really smooth music dominated the airwaves. Luminaries among the pantheon of yacht rockers include Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan, etc. Sounds like Ozzy and the boys were flirting with the "smooth" on this tune. I'm shocked Rupert Holmes wasn't commissioned to sing backup vocals on the chorus.

    n.... ....

yacht rock? is that what they call it? when i hear the part at 1:40, i imagine ozzy and the gang rolling down a las vegas casino in white coats walking down a red carpet with colorful lights flashing left and right. but a yacht is also a fitting visual.

    n.... ....

@noname THIS WAS NEVER on the radio!!!!!!!!!! You had to buy the damn album to hear this wonderful music. WHO the F are you trying to kid here??? Must be the legend in your own mind.

    n.... ....

@Shallex RIGHT???? Bloody fool says that, this NEVER got radio play.....

    n.... ....

@Robert Nema I can imagine Ozzy talking about this song in an interview with his exaggerated Birmingham accent..." This song was too fucking smooth man!....even Say-tun (Satan) rejected us after hearing it"

  47. D.... L....

Fucking great this love ozzys vox

  48. A.... S....

Great song it has a weird heavy metal mixed with late 70s dance vibe.

    A.... S....

    Sabbath often showed Jazz influences.

    A.... S....

@Bradford DeLaura Quite a sad and uplifting song all at the same time. Such perceptions they had to put this down as music. Quite amazing in my mind.

    A.... S....

Sabbath did a lot of stuff different. Symptom of the Universe- start of a new genre of metal & basically ends off as country song.... brilliant!

  49. L.... L....

my favourite sabbath album. I don't care what fans, music critics, or even black sabbath think of it. it's s fucking amazing album and it always pisses me of when I hear people say its Sabbath s worst. open your mind and don't just copy what other people say

  50. N.... O....

Fuk epic song, sounds like Zepplin ! but with out the tight pants ! Good and wholesome rock !

    N.... O....

No One sounds nothing like Zeppelin idiot and work on your spelling

    N.... O....

@Dan Calestini To me it does , not to you . but only an idiot would not understand that we all have our own opinions . Nice hating l , keep up the grizzlin .mom dont luv ya ? oh sorry cant spell , get over iit

    N.... O....

No One hey brother it's not about hating I have no problem with you your right if you thinks it sounds like Zeppelin great unfortunately I've been listening to this music to long so maybe I don't get it Zeppelin was my favorite in the early 70s a couple of years later I started listening to BS I saw Led Zeppelin in 1977 in Oakland ca the opening act was ready for this ( the Judas Priest quartet) they dropped quartet part and just became JP I know it's easy to piss people off nothing personal

    N.... O....

@Dan Calestini I wasn't doing spaghetti brains and have a good instinctive mind when it comes to music . When I heard this song in particular it had a very open sound sort of like flying over a canyon vibe . Immediately it reminded me of the song " when the levee breaks " That and we'll yep, the organ. Hence my accusation that is sounds Epic like led Zep . no pissing off intended . U saw em in there prime ! I envy you !

    N.... O....

nah, it doesn't sound like Zeppelin

  51. D.... C....

This song is BS but it sounds like ozzys solo stuff still a kick ass tune this is a really good album just different from the early and mid 70s BS stuff 👍☠️

    L.... G....

    nobodys fool

    L.... G....

Yes the correct lyrics on the second line is Nobodies fool.

    L.... G....

Ozzy was a master lyricist. He was one the best at writing the lyrics to the music and not the other way around. I've been writing lyrics for years and I could come close to Ozzy.

  53. m.... ....

    The Rolling Stoned Sabbaths.

  54. g.... l....

    rich mans world...

  55. h.... c....

    banner...banger...born to ill

    h.... c....

born to ill? what does that even mean?

  56. k.... C....

they were definatly competing with am radio giants at the time.

    k.... C....

Very intriguing comment for sure Ken.
What "giants" are you talking abut?

  57. k.... C....

i'm surprised how much ozzy hates this album; for it sounds like the beginning of his solo material ?

    k.... C....

@Io he put all the melody lines perhaps you dont know about music to see how importan is this for a song,

    k.... C....

@AggelosR Indeed the voice is an instrument; people tend to forget that.

    k.... C....

@Io lyrics are a form of poetry. poetry doesn't make a song. if you don't have a melody, you don't have a song. ozzy's writes the vocal melodies for his songs, unless he's following the guitar. by definition, ozzy writes music. an acapella is still a song. ozzy's knack for writing great melodies that compliment tony's riffs perfectly are what makes ozzy second to none in the music world. ozzy's vocals speak to the soul, in my opinion. in no way at all is that just ozzy coming and phoning in his vocals by slapping any old thing over it. ozzy+tony are like bread and butter. if you want to know exactly the difference that ozzy makes to sabbath, listen to the version of Junior's Eyes with dave walker on vocals. you may take vocal melodies for granted, and assume they just naturally fall into place due to the placement of the other band member's instrument playing. but if you listen to dave walker singing Junior's Eyes, or listen to any instrumental version of a non-instrumental song, you may realize "wow, somebody (a vocalist) actually had to come up with the singing for the song. it wasn't just a given". listen to sabbath's Changes and tell me that ozzy doesn't write music. Changes would hardly be a song if the vocals were removed. you think somebody told ozzy how to sing for that song or any other song for that matter? unlikely.

    k.... C....

I think it was just that period in his life..He hated himself and everything...cause this tune is killer

  58. S.... ....

This should have been a single as it's basically MTV in the mid 80's, but from 1978! Saddened to hear the band hate this album. Proof the creators should never be the judges!

    S.... ....

Stygosi so much feeling in this song

    S.... ....

Only Ozzy said he hated it Iommi was proud of it

    S.... ....

@Michael Holmes Thanks for that piece of info, Michael; [I trust Iommi's judgement totally]. I bought the album and loved "Never Say Die." I also find emphasis on melody in this LP; unusual for Sabbath. . . I consider it their last great album.

    S.... ....

The band doesn't hate this album. They know that it's musically a fantastic album. For some reason, the record companies, the real power behind the music, didn't want this album well received. Musically, this is their best of the original lineup. There's not even a close second.

  59. T.... ....

Where are the lyrics in this entire album ?

    T.... ....

  63. C.... d....

This album is so underrated, by the best metal band ever!

    C.... d....

by your.shitty opinion only you assume. dipshit

    C.... d....

@Gen. Lee Interested JP was a result of Black Sabbath. Without BS, no other bands would have occurred BS is heavy metal, period.

    C.... d....

Over the You, great song..but i think that piano not fit so well to it..Actually i hate it, it is ruin whole song

    C.... d....

@Gen. Lee Interested It's all blues man. BS might have stumbled onto some jazz tropes from time to time.
