Black Sabbath - Hot Line Lyrics

Take me to the river baby drink my wine
When I'm going down won't you throw me a line
Lead me to religion take me up them stairs
When I take a tumble will you say me some prayers

When will you show me a sign
When will you throw me a line

Help me to the answer baby set me free
I'm torn between the devil and the deep blue sea
Maybe if you wanted you could save my face
Keep me out of trouble and I'm living disgrace

Show me to a sucker and you'll see my name
Standing in a line with the shadows of fame
Lead me to a legend take me up them stairs
When I take a tumble will you say me some prayers

  17. N.... L....

This is what pushed me over the edge to metal from punk. By that, you know I' m old. That means I' m wise. Oh. Wait, you dont have to be old to be wise.... Pun (or crosś reference) intended. How much metal are you?

  18. S.... M....

This album is SO Sabbath!! I remember we were getting used to the idea that Ozzy was doing different shit, and that Dio really was a great fit for the Sabbath platform, when all of a sudden: IAN FUKKIN' GILLAN is "in the studio with Black Sabbath" and we were like: "WHAT?!?! This is gonna be GOOD!", and we were not accurate with that, because HE WAS GREAT!! Suddenly Black Sabbath was Redefining a genre that they had almost single-handedly defined just a few short years earlier, and with AUTHORITY! This album was Sabbath from first note to last, no way to mistake what was being heard, including Gillan's delivery, legendary! Beyond powerful, this line-up had become genuinely scary, and this album was the definitive proof that no matter WHO had the mic, BLACK SABBATH's "sound" was forever to be found deep within the unique thunder made by the other three members, and largely unaffected by lines of lyrics, no matter who or how strong their vocalist may be. Hell, with Iommi and Butler laying down their magic, Elmer Fudd could take the mic and you would still hear "BLACK SABBATH" tearin' the walls down!!

    J.... A....

I went to see them during the Born Again Tour in Toronto. It was awesome, and they also did Smoke On The Water. It was amazing. Then about a year later, (or something like that) Gillan was back in Toronto with Deep Purple. I was really disappointed when Gillan left Black Sabbath. Gillan and Iommi got back together in 2011 to Record some Music... :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIdF_vVCeWQ

  35. E.... L....

Forgot how great this was! Fucking Ian sounds better than he did on Perfect Strangers...which was total shit album.
I always loved the muddy mix...in 1983 everything was recorded hyper digital and it was really fucking annoying!
This sounds analog...or made to sound like it on purpose!
    Fuck you Tipper Gore!

  36. R.... C....

One album one tour. A great clip of rock history

    R.... C....

Gillan and Iommi got back together for some more Recordings a few years back... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIdF_vVCeWQ

  39. J.... J....

Hell Of A Jam. Rock N Roll Lives. ✌

  40. C.... L....

End of this song is unreal. PUT ME ON THE HOTLINE

  41. c.... u....

Not gonna lie i actually dig this one

  42. j.... s....

I should add Bill Ward didn't do the tour due to health.Bev Bevins from ELO played drums.

  43. j.... s....

Saw this tour in 83 in Houston.Yes very loud. One thing though they blatantly used back up musicians. It was almost comical.

    j.... s....

They did? I was at the front of the Stage in Toronto for the Born Again Tour, and I didn't see any back up musicians... ????

    j.... s....

You are absolutely full of shit. The only lineup change was Bev Bevins from ELO played drums on the tour. Bill Ward hated touring and did the same thing for Heaven and Hell tour. I saw this show at Cobo in Detroit front row and center and they absolutely killed it. Ian Gillan was screaming like a banshee and tony Iommi was in rare form that night. The purple fog rolling off the stage set the stage for a show that I could never forget even if I tried. Sabbath with back up musicians on stage ? Never. You are right on the loudness. The only show i have ever seen that was louder was AC/DC For Those About to Rock which I also saw at Cobo front and center. The 21 cannon salute almost blew my eardrums. I slept outside the ticket window in a snowstorm for Born Again tickets. I will never forget that show as long as I live.

    j.... s....

Sabbath never used back up musicians, you are thinking of Madonna!

    j.... s....

@Centaurus Bigfoot NOVICEthey've had a regular offstage keyboard/rhythm guitar player starting with Geoff Nicholls in 1980.

  44. M.... J....

My father is real owner of that album but after I first heard it it stayed in my room... Thank you Gillan you're definitely the God. I love you

  45. K.... M....

this is like pre-early Metal Church

  46. p.... c....

    pau !!! forever !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. S.... W....

Would of sounded much better with ozzy on vocals

    S.... W....

    NO. It would not have.

    S.... W....

Oz had his time & lost his place in Sabbath through no fault of anyone other than his own!

    S.... W....

Bahh.. Ozzy couldnt sing this or the Dio albums.

  49. J.... S....

So underrated. Bad mix on vinyl release killed it.

    J.... S....

It almost sounds like you are just echoing what the critics were saying, when the album came out, and we all know the critics are idiots.

  50. R.... K....

If you want a funny read about this tour check out Mick Wall’s book on Sabbath. Talked about all the shit that went wrong w this tour and all the spinal tap moments they had like w the giant stone hedge props on stage. The red devil baby who they got a dwarf to come out dressed as during the set.

  51. D.... J....

    This is the loudest 📢 🔊📣💣and spookiest 👹😈👺🕷️ albums I've ever heard👂😬💀 😵

    D.... J....

I made a similar comment here a couple of years ago, and I have been telling people this since the Album came out in the 1983... You can take the original Recording of BORN AGAIN, and put it up against any other music, and nothing is louder... (I don't mean any youtube versions) I mean with the original recording, and then put it up against any other album, or song... DISTURBING THE PRIEST... :)

  52. s.... s....

EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM IS INCREDIBLE ; TOP 20 ALBUMS OF ALL TIME HERE !!

  53. R.... C....

The most insane vocals I’ve ever heard.

  54. 7.... ....

This is the Greatest album in All Rock history !!

  55. R.... D....

    Fuck yeah mother fuckers

  56. F.... ....

Listen to "Beyond The Doors Of The Dark" by SAVATAGE. That's what you were looking for.

  57. F.... ....

Sounds like an amatuer garage band. Meh... You think this is awesome lol whatever.

  58. Z.... M....

It's almost like they were handed the cheapest instruments available and a Casio recording unit and told to make an LP.... shame because it has some of Sabbaths heaviest riffs...

    Z.... M....

You say, "It's almost like they were handed the cheapest instruments available and a Casio recording unit." WHAT ALBUM WERE YOU LISTENING TO? Because it certainly wasn't/isn't BORN AGAIN!!!! Either that , or you have to get the shit cleaned out of your ears...

  59. s.... s....

    IAN GILLAN IS GOD !!

    s.... s....

Well, he was Jesus Christ Superstar so I suppose it was a natural progression!

  60. V.... J....

This album has the scariest solos, the fiercest intros , the most haunting aura , every single thing is frightening about this album, so scary that people were downright afraid of it back in 1983 as it reinvented metal for a whole new generation

    V.... J....

In my humble opinion, for me this album is one of the best of metal and rock. It is wonderful. Each song is a play and a vomit of energy and musical magic. As you say the aura that it has is impressive.

  61. V.... J....

There are only a few albums that exist in history where ever single song is epic ,not just good, amazing, or classic , but epic all time!! born again is one of those true rare amazing albums ,then you have to break down greatest album covers, the beatles white album may be one ,lou reed banana ,the who tommy, sg pepper, i woiuld put sabbath born again maybe greatest album cover ever ,.for one of greatest rock albums everQ!

  62. F.... G....

THIS ALBUM invented LA metal -RIGHT HERE!

    F.... G....

RATT's debut came out the same year. Crue 2 years before.

  63. F.... G....

NOT a bad song on this album !!! BA Rules !!

  64. J.... R....

the high notes at the end are insane, Gillan was possessed

  66. B.... D....

That main riff reeks of sleeze, excellent song off an excellent album

  67. L.... C....

Auguro la sciolta in eterno ai due stronzi che hanno messo il pollice in basso. Sordi

  68. I.... V....

    Top3 sabbath album.szerintem a hangzása is tökéletes.zero the hero!

  69. J.... 5....

Oh my sabbath is this a loud song or what? lol Amazing

    J.... 5....

Try listening to DISTURBING THE PRIEST, lol... This entire album is loud... I maintain, that you can take the original recording of this album, and put it up against any music... As in, putting this album up on 10, and then putting any other music up on 10, and this album will be louder than anything else, that you put up against it...

  70. t.... ....

    I love this song.

  71. C.... J....

I've screwed to this ! Great for a quicky

    C.... J....

    Craig Justice
    Did he swallow?

    C.... J....

    @Blue Bleeder - Yes I did.. Thanks Craig.. you're best !!

  72. M.... L....

    Gillan kicked ass

  73. C.... L....

    Just love that rowdy mix.

  74. C.... L....

This album is even better once you know the stories behind the recording. These guys were a bunch of hard cases man. It's beautiful.

    C.... L....

Ches Lee Pack Ian Gillans biography Child in Time recounts the events surrounding this album's creation.. perfect for real balls out Rock music.

  75. K.... C....

  76. D.... C....

Gillan sings like Satan on this album

    D.... C....

    Their most 'evil' lp.

    D.... C....

    I agree 100%, lol...

    D.... C....

    jesus christ superstar

  77. C.... C....

Regardless the comparisons, it is still quite unique perception of Sabbath from Ian.

  78. B.... ....

Another album or 2 with Gillian would have been better than whatever he left to do with DP.

  79. c.... ....

    i prefer ozzy

    c.... ....

I do as well but this is unique, I can dig this album.

    c.... ....

Bryrant, Sabbath without Ozzy isn't Sabbath. Ozzy is the Original singer.

    c.... ....

    1.Dio
    2.Ian Gillan
    3.Ozzy
My chart because i think dio did best lyrics and he had best voice.Ian Gillan is amazing singer but i think ozzy is like Blaze in maiden he doesn't have powerfull voice.

    c.... ....

Y'all shit heads ozzy made black sabbath he can't be replaced

    c.... ....

To me, having either Ozzy or Dio wouldn't have made Born Again much better. The bottom line is that Born Again is far from Black Sabbath at its best.

  80. K.... M....

Lotta haters hate this album but fuck sake Gillan sounded bad arse on this album!!!!! 83??? Stood the test of time to me!!!

    K.... M....

This is one of greatest Sabbath album for me.

  81. c.... \....

    the best

  82. L.... R....

I think that the riff of Beastie Boys - You Got Fight For Your Right was based in this song.

    L.... R....

I wlays thoutght the Bestie Boys got they riff from the W.A.S.P. song "Scream Until You Like It" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpi2r47D8Lo

    L.... R....

All 3 songs sound like AC/DC's Overdose

    L.... R....

@Dimitris Rousidis yeah that's right. You keep believing that lol

  83. B.... J....

This is heavier than any other Rock album ever made... Metallica doesn't even come close, etc, etc... This is most likely the Loudest Album in the history of music... (I have never heard anything heavier or louder) I challenge anybody to turn the Original album up on 10, (All The Way) and then put any other music/album up against this album... (not the Youtube Version, Original Album or C.D.) Nothing is heavier, and/or LOUDER... I don't think anything is louder in the history of music then DISTURBING THE PRIEST... That's one loud fucking song, lol...I have always loved this album, and will continue to love this album...

    B.... J....

Locker room by gag is way fucking louder

    B.... J....

    @StainedClass 78 bitch

    B.... J....

    what about painkiller?

    B.... J....

@colliniswhalen I dont know what that is... but the name intrigues the hell out of me.. I think it moved when I read it.

  84. m.... v....
