Black Flag - What Can You Believe Lyrics
One fine day I was walking down the street you know
I stepped into a café to get a bite to eat
A man came in sat down next to me
He said "hey man I think I know what you need"
He told me his name was sylvester king
I thought that these things just may be true but take it from a man in a polyester suit
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
Then I took the bus and I went downtown you know
I thought I'd take a walk just to have a look around
A bald headed man stepped up to me
I looked in his eyes I knew that he was
Preaching unified action and unified thoughts
If unity is freedom then freedom is sin you're just a bald headed fool in an orange bathrobe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
Now I've heard all the stories and all the fairy tales
And there's always one thing that never seems to fail
There's people here there's people all around
Who seem to get their kicks by putting other people down
You can't judge a book by looking at the cover
You can't judge a man by looking at his lover
You think you know a man by the length of his hair your talk talk talk just don't seem fair
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe
What can you believe

That lick on the verse is something else.
Black Flag is definitely one of the main bands who bridged the gap between punk and metal.
yo I just noticed how the lyrics reference 'hair' by graham central station dope
si tu cocina es un asco como tu cara
Okay, watch this greasy, little white boy play. Best intro line ever.
This ain't even "punk"...it's just RnR!!!!!!
It's a demo...not pushing too hard. Ever see em play live 80-82...ba boom!
this song sounds similar too (the Salaminizer) by GWAR
Hell yeah. This is a great song.
Yeah how the fuck did this song never make it to any of the studio albums.
actually it has been released on an album. "what can you believe" as well as "yes i know" are compositions by dez cadena, he took both songs with him after he left flag in 83. you can find them on the first dc3 album, "this is the dream" from 1985.
@MrTomasso66 Oh no shit, see I never knew Dez wrote this. Thanks for that info!
Great tune. Too bad it never was recorded beyond this demo.
Yes it was by DC3 on the This is the Dream album.
Black Flag is burning on this 1 !!
