Black Crowes, The - What Is Home? Lyrics
As I stare into the frozen starlight
My hands burn with the scars of past lives
I see past all the falling chimneys
Home for me
As I charge into the foothills of your life
Stand under fading sunlight
Hope it will return next morning
Home for me
What is home for me?
I can't wait to find
A home for me
I approach you this morning
Which one will you be?
You're far too important to me
As I stare into the frozen starlight
My hands burn with the scars of past lives
I see past all the falling chimneys
Home for me
What is home for me?
I cannot wait to find
A home for me
Home for me

It's not a gene, my friend. It's a curse.
what a true masterpiece
Mesmerising! They were so so good!!!
One of the greatest rock bands of all time
Amazing track. This one really stood out for me on the album. Love it!
This song is so soothing & Rich & Chris's harmony is beautiful.
Just utterly fantastic. One of the greatest albums ever made. Magic occurred that evening. Thank you Crowes!
Was there as well....once in a lifetime experience
The Cabin Fever DVD is a MUST HAVE if you are a Black Crowes fan. This song is just one small part of the magic captured on this DVD. Levon Helm's The Barn was the perfect setting for this. Cabin Fever was some of the best money I've ever spent.
absolutely.
Fucking Luther is a baaaad man!
There is no mistake the crowes are one of the best bands of the last 20 years and they are sadly and truly missed hope they make another comeback
The best song Seals & Crofts never wrote. ;)
Or Crosby, Stills & Nash ...
If Smudgefizz was taken purely at face value and we assumed that The Crowes and the newer bands were on par when comparing talent I would agree with you. But I think if you read between the lines he is also saying (and if not, I am) that most of the new, commercialized bands and music in general are not only adrift with no historical reference, but they are completely devoid of any talent for playing, writing, structure, melody and generally lack aesthetic appeal. Most couldn't tune to open G.
very nice.. but, the sound is a bit too cranked up
I love Duck Dynasty, I didn't know that guy was in a band.
Im sorry sir but i fail to see what is so wrong about that? If no one ever tried or invented something new and simply built on top of the old stuff then civilisation itself would of grinded to a halt a long time ago. I say praise the young generation for saying no to the same old crap with new riffs and actually pull their fingers out their bums and try something new for once. Praise 'em!
are these guys gonna put something out soon? I miss the the black crowes...
So what? Either we are born to follow the good or make our own path.
Don't forget Gram Parsons and Co.
Of course Rich is great, I'm not denying that, but EVERYONE has influences that shape their style! Maybe you're young & don't recognize those influences in the songs. But I think it's cool when musicians like the B. Crowes keep the spirit of that older music alive, passing it on to other generations. I love hearing bits & pieces that take me back to songs from my youth. Doesn't make this music any less special. And of course Zep, the Stones, the Faces, all had THEIR influences as well, & so on..
Wow I hear Rich Robinson.........
Good post and very true. I think they''re as diverse as anybody in the makeup of their music. Blues, rock, soul, contry, bluegrass...absolutely awesome the body of work they've created. They're probably one of my top 3-4 favorite bands ever, with Beatles, ABB, Zep, Floyd...
Point made, but this is killer, and inspiration brings melody and creation. This song made me rethink the whole Crowes thing.
It's cool but sorry, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young already blazed this trail. Along with James Gang! "Tend My Gardens" go listen and you will hear how it was done in the day!
Listened to it (wasn't impressed). Sorry but The Crowes did it better. It ain't even in the same ballpark. Nice try, though. 🖕
1) Besides the obvious, what's great about soulful bands like the Black Crowes is that you can hear roots & influences in their own compositions. The Steve Marriot / Rod Stewart & Faces / Rolling Stones influence is clear in many of their other tunes. But in this song I can hear a bit of Buffalo Springfield in the opening as well as Seals & Croft in the vocals; a bit of Led Zep "Ramble On", especially in the bass riff & the rest of the band towards the end; & some Allman Brothers vibe too.
2) And of course all those bands who influenced the Black Crowes reflect their own (even older) roots as well. Each generation builds on the previous, unlike the crap most kids listen to today -which hasn’t evolved from an older tradition or roots. Instead it's commercial fodder, the lowest common denominator, & smoke & mirrors. Flashing lights but no substance. You can’t trace most of today’s shit way back to gospel or blues, etc... There’s no history, no foundation they’re building on.
Truly beautiful ...
