Birthday Massacre, The - Surrender Lyrics
Tonight they're calling out your name
A light across the river
They're coming for you
Let me in and I'll explain
I'm afraid I'll disappear
I know you're in there
I sense your fear
Surrender
I know you are hiding here
Come, my dear
You can hide in the night while I'm waiting here, all alone
When you're sleeping, I'm out here watching at your window
You and I, we are the same
So cold outside here
I'm afraid you'll disappear
I know you are in there
Just let me in
Surrender
I know you are hiding here
Come, my dear
You can hide in the night while I'm waiting here, all alone
Surrender, and we can disappear
Come, my dear
By the end of the night we'll be far from here, all alone
Now I know where you're hiding, and I want you to notice
The river is rising
I want you to know this
Surrender
I know you are hiding here
Come, my dear
You can hide in the night while I'm waiting here, all alone
Surrender, and we can disappear
Come, my dear
By the end of the night we'll be far from here, all alone

Awesome band
https://youtu.be/ElSRuRR1m5w this animated vid for the song is so good!!
Love this refrain :D
Heard this song on PH ✌
They can not write a bad song. This is one of my favorite on the album.
I could be mistaken, but I strongly believe this song is suppose to be about your anxiety trying to get you to "surrender".
In the beginning of the song she's breathing in a pattern people with anxiety disorders begin to breathe in when they start hyperventilating.
Throughout the song, anxiety's trying to get her to let it in so it can "explain" and keep her safe, when in reality it's poisoning her.
"So dark outside here, I'm afraid I'll disappear" is her being afraid she'll lose control and disassociate, and so on.
Towards the end of the song is what really makes it clear that it's anxiety "The river is rising, I want you to know this".
(Simply my interpretation of the song, but I believe it to be the true intention behind the song).
@Debt Miner I truly try to keep this in mind, because I do have a fear of death(since I myself don't personally have faith). I try to remember life's but a beautiful dream. I just want to be capable of being present in reality when I feel so far away.. Especially around other people which is where it matters to be present.(I suffer from social anxiety.)
@Sparkly Yoshi Y'know. .when I was younger, I was an atheist. Felt that was the logical counter to what I saw as religious bunk (still see religion as bunk, but now I include atheism as a religion. .no offense). Somehow I felt deep down that there was still something more to all this than what the scientists and televangelists were feeding us. I then started exploration of scientific research that dealt with more esoteric topics. .spiritual, occult, mind etc.. Tons of research, including from our governments. We're just so afraid to be the odd duck, that we have to assume somebody else's arbitrary correlation to ''reality'', and just bypass a wealth of well grounded research and information to stay off the quack radar. You likely fear death as it's an unknown. Don't know for sure, but this is a typical reason. What if you could know that your journey was not over after all this? Would you still be afraid to die? Thoughts are energy and can be measured. If energy can neither be created or destroyed, don't be so quick to assume the journey's over. Just because the religions of the world may be wrong, doesn't mean they weren't at least on to something important. There's much to learn and study that may help you conquer your fear. You're more than just worm food when you go, and there is nothing to fear in death.. Actually, it's part of the life process, and something to welcome when the time comes. The kicker in all that I said, is that this is something you have to learn for yourself in order to believe it.
@Sparkly Yoshi And yes..I knew from your original post. I have friends who suffer too. Hard to understand, as I've never been afraid of much, but I do know it can be a terrible time for you. Hope you can go deep and get some of whatever makes crazy idiots like me tick 😆 Good luck, Erica Sparkly Yoshi!!
I take it literally as a spooky story.
i love how she sings the "Come, my dear"
Who wants to make love to this song? I do!
Maybe in a weird 80's camp counselor sort of way lol.
best song on the album but i stand by my statement of the fact that The Birthday Massacre cannot write a bad song or album! they are my favourite band
Sam Mansfield agree
chibi is the girl of my dreams! Gahhh
Her voice.. <3
Best song on the album imho
@Riki Lovatt I have to agree. The track sounds a lot like and advanced version of their old stuff. Sadly many of the new tracks didnt sound very "heartful" in comparison to the feelings that i had in the "old times".
