Billy Talent - Rabbit Down The Hole Lyrics

Buried in the mail before the early morning,
Under the frost that's forming his words are calling.
Even though alarm bells ring without a warning,
All of the clocks keep ticking, and time keeps flowing.

Everyone that I hold dearly, I try to keep them close,
'Cause some of them get bitten by the rabbit down the hole.
Once they walk past through the grass, they're never coming home.

Easy to label yet so hard to nail,
Maybe they've lost their way but found their savior.
Living in the fable life's a fairy tale,
Except our thoughts are fragile our minds are frail.

Everyone that you hold dearly, you try to keep them close.
'Cause some of them get bitten by that rabbit down the hole.
And once you walk past through the grass, you're never coming home.

Good God what have I done?
Mother nature's lowly son.
Mother nature's lowly son.
Chase that rabbit down the hole.

Wander through the open door that leads to nowhere.
Who's gonna take away my pain, take away my pain.
Before you know you're trapped inside the spider's web,
You're screaming there is no escape, there is no escape.

The invitation's written clearly, you're the one he chose.
Until the day you're bitten by the rabbit down the hole.
Follow his procession deep into the ground below.

Good God what have I done?
Mother nature's lowly son.
Mother nature's lowly son.
Chase that rabbit down the hole.
I'll drown or I will burn.
Down the path of no return.
Down the path of no return.
Chase that rabbit down the hole.
Rabbit down the hole.

I never thought I'd see her suffer, I gave her all I could.
And everything I had to offer, was never understood.
How many days until her mind has left the world for good?

Good God what have I done?
Mother nature's lowly son.
Mother nature's lowly son.
Chase that rabbit down the hole.
I'll drown or I will burn.
Down the path of no return.
Down the path of no return.
Chase that rabbit down the hole.

One of these days you'll break away.
One of these days you'll break away.
One of these days you'll break away.
(Chase that rabbit down the hole.)
One of these days you'll fade away.

One of these days you'll break away.
One of these days you'll break away.
One of these days you'll break away.
(Chase that rabbit down the hole.)
One of these days you'll fade away.

One of these days you'll break away.
(Good God what have I done?)
One of these days you'll break away.
(Good God what have I done?)
One of these days you'll break away.
(Good God what have I done?)
(Chase that rabbit down the hole.)
One of these days you'll fade away.

One of these days you'll break away.
(Good God what have I done?)
One of these days you'll break away.
(Good God what have I done?)
One of these days you'll break away.
(Good God what have I done?)
(Chase that rabbit down the hole.)
One of these days you'll fade away.

Billy Talent Rabbit Down The Hole Comments
  1. Ed Paradis

This is the best album that Billy Talent has ever produced to date. They seem to always push the boundaries and get better every time.

  2. Dono Nguyễn

Even with the lyric I can't tell what this song is about. Anyone care to explain?

    E E

I've seen people say it's about drugs and addiction, and other say it's about the writer's mother who had alzheimers. Honestly ic don't know which one is it but I don't care too much it's awesome song

    baylaust

It's a song about addiction to religion, and how complete dependency on it can destroy your life.

To put it simply, it's a song about drugs. The drug just happens to be religion.

  3. antari456

4:08 - that riff is insane. Simple, yet so good. They got really talented guitarists.

    Samu *

ONE Guitarist, Ian d'sa, my friend ;)

    johnny michalak

That one guitarist has to be one of the best. He puts so much life into each note

  4. Jessica Burch

how are there not 8 million likes to this???

  5. Luciano Panizza Leigh

    Some Metallica vibes

  6. Javier Belmer

My only beef with this album, and specifically this song, is that sometimes you can see the brilliance and potential the song(s) have, but they take it in a route that never escalates beyond that potential. Some songs seem like they could've been more better developed. Good album though!

    Anique Zafar

Javier Belmer specify where the potential doesn't seem to escalate... Because I always felt Billy talent hands the potential to your mind and how you escalate it with your emotions and wisdom...

  7. treakzy_

  9. AnUnnamed3vil

    Da fuq this song about?

    Tania Shafiei

It's about someone who sees a person very close to him get deeper and deeper into an addiction (it can be drugs or someone who joined a cult) and he can't help him, just watch this person destroy his life and the life of the people who care about him.

    Ed Paradis

@Tania Shafiei that and sucisisde at the end which the artwork shows when you buy the cd

  13. Mthr Snr

Thanks for uploading. But one thing bothers me. I cant sing it while listening when the lyrics show up too late 😁

    Tania Shafiei

Mthr Snr Hahaha ;) I understand but it's really difficult to set the lyrics at the exact moment he sings the words because the difference between the two is really small, it's even smaller than one second. I did my best I think. But I understand what you mean. Unfortunately I can't change it now ;).

    Mthr Snr

Never mind. Because of you we got this freakin awesome track on youtube. 💟

  14. Karnickelfangschlag

    Einer der geilstens Songs 😀

    Jakob Baden

@BEST STAR ja bestimmt aber vielleicht möchte er nicht 😉

  15. Detlef Davis

gotta love these drop d guitars

    AwayAtKeyboard

It’s great, he doesn’t drop the tuning to make it heavier, but because he gets an octave power chord simply by barring the lowest three strings with his index finger, allowing him to do lead on top of it with his other fingers.

  16. Mario Benito

How can this be that good? Amazing

  17. Alexander Toth

When I listen to this tune.... I get into a near trance-like state because of the music. I feel Ian's riffs in particular. This or GSOCR for best on album.

    Captain Pain_QC

    you sing very bad

  32. Memotronik Caska

What is the meaning of this song? Is the singing about drug abuse or an impossible love? Help!

    Tania Shafiei

Memotronik Caska it's about addiction in general so yes drugs but also religion (with groups that someone join and then never comes back to his family) and how the person get closer and closer to his final addiction and it destroys his life and the life of the people who are close to him and also it's from the perpective of someone of his family or one of his friend who watch him destroy himself or join the groups and he's not able to stop him

    Memotronik Caska

    Thanks for ur help :)

    Tania Shafiei

    @Memotronik Caska
     no problem ;)

    AwayAtKeyboard

It can pretty much be about whatever you want it to be, it’s what makes it so amazing

  33. Van Kleiss

Best power ballad I've listened to in years.

  34. King Sleyin

    its mother nature's lowly son
    I think

    Tania Shafiei

I'm sure it is really "lonely son" because the song is about addiction (religion fanatics for example) so in this case I think "lonely" works better.

    sQui_rrel

It's about his dying mother, whom he could not help. She has dementia, and everything he tried to do was never understood in the end. This has absolutely nothing to do with religion, and more so about loss of friends and family. That's why he's lonely, can't you connect the dots? The reaper(Death, the rabbit down the hole) comes for us all in the end. [EDIT] Perhaps when he says, "good god what have I done", he either stopped trying or pulled the plug. "Break away" refers to her dying. TLDR; It's not about addiction, but about loss.

    Tania Shafiei

+sQui_rrel The song is about the loss of a family member or a friend because of his addiction. He said it himself in an interview. I wasn't referring myself to the "good god what have I done..." there are some parts in the song that are referring to some sort of addiction that takes you down and the moment you want to stop it, there is no way out.
Here is a part of the interview :
"Sometimes people get so blinded by this thing that they lose their
sense of self. The further they go into it, the more they lose," he
said. "I'm not saying that's with all religions, but I'm saying the
fanatical kind of people that hide. With an addiction, it's not even by
choice, but you lose the plot. You just get so far gone from where you
were that you're left standing there being like, 'Where am I now?'"
"It's a long song. It takes you on a journey and builds you up and you
kind of actually do get lost in it," he continued. "It's where the lyric
and the melody match the vibe to what the song was saying. It all works
    together."

  35. Howeynous

In a way, the first convincing new power ballad in a very long time.

  36. Igor Stadnyk

    deep meaning

  37. Pascal Guertin

    BotanicFurry

匿名P4tr1k In My Opinion I think

    匿名P4tr1k

Ah yea makes sense "^^ Thank you :)

    Cordelle House

Every album and every song they've made are the best. Including Pezz.

    Ed Paradis

@Dylan Boyer most protested song ever to date. This song almost got their album banned due to the lyrics. Then again It ISN"T Billy Talent unless they have that one very converatioal song is their album, examples are, The Dirge, The Navy Song, Devil in a midnight mass ( the vacian really hate that song) However this song and the way it was sung was what give it that heat. Me i love this song and I'm guilty of singing this song out loud
