Billy Strings - Away From The Mire Lyrics

Remember the time
We were both eye to eye
And we both knew the reasons why
It seemed like we faced the world on our own
Before we collide
Can we just take a moment
Collecting reflections of this
And remember the paths that we chose

Spring lied to us this year again
I can't stand to face the fear again
You could always laugh about those things
It's enough to make a man feel sour
Burning minutes every day by the hour
Just to end up gone like everything else

Let go of the pain and hold onto the rhythm
It's consciously held back in you
You're drowning a sorrow that's long been at rest
The past is a hell, it can creep up inside you
So let me remind you of this
It's the reason your troubles exist

Spring lied to us again this year
And still, I can't stand to face the fear
Will you always laugh about those things?
It's enough to make a man stay humble
Every day is just a new chance to stumble
Just to end up gone like everything else

If ever a time
Comes around in the wheel
To replace where we stand side-by-side
We'll be ready and able to fly
Away from the mire
And the senseless decisions
Of somebody's wasted desire
Through the smoke and the wind and the fire

Spring lied to us this year again
I can't stand to face that fear again
You could always laugh about those things
It's enough to make a man feel sour
Burning minutes every day by the hour
Just to end up gone like everything else

Remember the time
We were both eye to eye
And we both knew the reasons why
It seemed like we faced the world on our own
Before we collide
Can we just take a moment
Collecting reflections of this
And remember the paths that we chose

Spring lied to us again this year
And still, I can't stand to face the fear
Will you always laugh about those things?
It's enough to make a man feel sour
Burning minutes every day by the hour
Just to end up gone like everything else

  2. D D

    Damn Billy never misses haha

  3. singcrazyspirit

Soooooo gooood! I love the slower tempo, then the energy builds & the tempo picks up, then we get that amazing wall of synchronicity while Billy does his thing, then vocals at the end, too! Every time I check back in he's doing something different. New things are added, more interesting than the last, ridiculously good musicianship. I am DYING to see them! They rarely get to the west coast, though. We just aren't country-ish enough I guess. :(

  16. Liberto26

Billy and the boys are about to bloooooow up. Saw them 2 years ago in Montana with like 15 friends on a Ski Trip... never considered ourselves bluegrass fans before but we've been consumed by Billy ever since!

  17. Channing Wade

  20. Magnum Mountaineer

Saw Billy Strings and Co up the road just this summer... Round the end of June, close to the 4th. Great time of year for everybody, and it was a good show. Just a wee little venue was all it was... The best kind.

  21. Nick Hazelwood

One of the single best songs written in the last 10 years!

    DeadSpread

    Maybe even 20

  22. John Martin

This "kid" just won Instrumentalist of the Year, and New Artist of the Year at the IBMA's. He and his entire band are total virtuoso's. They are at the forefront of the Alt/Progressive Bluegrass scene helping to carry the torch of some of the more recent greats to do the same over the past decade+. Do yourself a favor and go check them out if they come anywhere near you. Do the same for Yonder Mountain String Band, Greensky Bluegrass, Trampled by Turtles, The Infamous Stringdusters, Punch Brothers, The Steeldrivers (formerly led by Chris Stapleton), etc, to name a handful of the bigger acts. Many, many good up and comers as well. Mindblowing live shows....all of em.

    No Name

    @DeadSpread Not a chance lmao!

    DeadSpread

@No Name Tony Rice has stated that he wishes he could've known, let alone play, what Billy has at this age...or any for that matter!

    DeadSpread

That's like God giving you a personal pat on the back.

    No Name

@DeadSpread Billy is great, but Thile is a fucking god musician and composer. Respect to them both.

    DeadSpread

    @No Name in the highest!

  23. Tyler Rice

What you see here is a legend in the making. We welcome a new prince of jamgrass that will join the ranks Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Tony Rice, etc.

    Praise Hermie

    Greensky>>>>>

    Nick Collier

    DeadSpread

William Apostol (Billy Strings) is Tony Rice's favorite guitar player

  29. Anthony Dykes

I’m so happy to see all the love for Billy! Such an incredible musician.

    Joshua Wiersum

Anthony Dykes I haven’t met many people that dislike this dude. Even if this isn’t someone’s cup of tea it’s impossible to argue that all these dudes aren’t extremely talented.

  30. Unsmote

So this is what happens when Dethklok plays acoustic?

    John Martin

    Appalachian Metal!

  31. Bob Dobbs

Billy strings and sturgill Simpson are the best things to happen to country music in recent years!

    Keith Wood

    @harry61991 imo yes

    Sam Young

@Jeff Skaggs Absolutely amazing comment. Thanks!

    Tom Darkstar

Bluegrass is American music that shares roots with American "country" music. It's country music like rock and roll is the blues.

    D D

Billy and Sturgill are miles better than any of the others. Childers and Colter are trying way too hard

  32. ryan noon

love billy, put's on a hell of a live show, fuck everyone that doesn't like this #bmfs

  33. Bigger Trigger

    That was really amazing. 10/10

  39. Will Wallace

    Wow. Outstanding

  40. Miss S

Yeeehawwwww. I do not like this at all. Fail Adult Swim.

    Keith Wood

Yeeehaww there lil cowgirl, you wouldn't know the difference between country and bluegrass if you got hit by a pickup truck blasting Kenny Chesney in the back 40. Why don't you stick to what you know and let people who know what good music is curate it for those who know the difference between shit and shinola. Cuz darlin, you ain't it.

Sincerely, someone who also hates country music.

    Kyle Backman

Arguing with us Billy fans about whether or not Billy is talented is a losing battle.. obviously you don't know how serious we are about our Billy, you can have your opinion but trying to argue with us is pointless

    Linda Clark

There is something incongruent here? Maybe the bass player riding it a lil hard is a bit awkward? Idk that is what hit me outta the gate.

    DeadSpread

For what it's worth, I think you make a very pretty troll Miss S! I agree that musical taste is definitely in the ear of the beholder; I'm just very glad I didn't end up with yours... Anybody telling someone else that they are wrong because of ignorance, is ignorance in itself. It's impossible to personally "like" all music, though it is very possible to appreciate all music, or art for that matter. There's too much of it out there to experience, to blatantly brush it aside because of naivety, hun! I also noticed your page was void of any content... I encourage you to fill your life with some. Plato said "Music is a moral law: it gives a soul to the universe, Wings to the Mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and Life to everything!" Don't sell yourself short, my dear! There's still time for you to see/feel this truth!
"If Mercy's a business, I wish it for you! More than just ashes, when your dreams come true!" -Grateful Dead.
