Some of the happiest three minutes of my life.

Just from this song I can hear lots of other bands that didn't come around until much,much later. A British new wave band called The Records,from what I can hear here,owes a huge debt to Big Star. This is a great compliment.

My music friends all rave about this band. They're okay, but they're not remarkable in any way close to the amount of praise they get. These songs are simple and pleasant, but they are only skin deep. They do not penetrate the soul. I never reach for them.

It was because I first heard the song with the bangles and it fitted the bassist's voice in such a way that it sounded very soft. In this original recording, one can hear it's raw and related to a sweetheart.

I prefer this to the Bangles version

Big Star was the most overlooked band of the 1970s due to poor management and record company. They never got the exposure nor breaks that bands of same period who couldn't even fucking play. Very sad.

Like Moby Grape, Arthur Lee and Love, and The Gettysburg Address before them, Big Star was just too damn awesome for even the highest common denominator ears, minds, hearts and souls of those times to embrace and make a place for. Wicked, disturbing bad luck.

This is the greatest song ever written. It makes Dylan look like the joke that he is. The Beatles wished they could write something this magical. Day In The Life? GARBAGE. And Your Bird? GARBAGE. Let It Be? GARBAGE. Lennon himself in Rolling Stone said that this is the greatest song ever written. So did McCartney. So did Dylan. Same with Brian Wilson, whose opinion is meaningless.

Check out Squire's version from '84. I thought Bangles' was good too. Even though it'll get a massive 'thumbs down', I still prefer the Squire version (recently reissued, by the way) above ALL others....

THE EAGLES?!?!?! You must be talking about eagles flying around in the sky cause you sure as shit ain't talking about that California band that pandered to soft rock housewives in Los Angeles & Marin County in the early '70's. It's apples and oranges brother.

I like The Searchers' 1985 power pop take on this.

For my money is the greatest Power Pop song if all time...the melancholy in Chilton's voice and the Byrdesque jangle of the guitars is unique. How this song is not among the top 20 songs of the rock era is a mistery to me. Plus I really appreciate the nod to the Beatles Nowhere Man here.

The ringing rhythm guitar is similar to Lennon's guitar in And You Bird Can Sing.

I heard this song having no idea of who wrote it or when. To me it sounded like a well written song created in the last 10 years. Now that I know better...

As bright and trebley as it is; it feels like it should start to feel shrill and overdone eventually - but it never does.
