Big Star - Lady Sweet Lyrics

Lady Sweet, I declare
That you're the troubled girl for me
And the stars above
And there is no either
Better lover down the street
Looks like you can't be beat

I might as well be losing sleep, for all the good it would do me
When the fear of failing runs so deep and purely

Lady Sweet
Don't tell me that I've gone crazy
And your beauty is only in my mind
For I can say
That what I see
Is so exactly what I need to find

(maybe one more time)

I might as well be losing sleep, for all the good it would do me
When the fear of failing runs so deeply and truly
Lady Sweet

Can't you see?
That I'm am free to choose
And I choose Lady Sweet
I know she can't be beat

I might as well be losing sleep, for all the good it would do me
When the fear of failing runs so deep inside
Just one more time

I might as well be losing sleep, truly straight on trough me
When the fear of failing runs so deep
I do believe is Lady Sweet

The production has an amazing roundness

  4. Brian Williams

    7 people hate there mothers?

  5. Mark Wilkins

This sounds like Jon Auer of the Posies singing.

  6. IronManx70

Even though I don't like In Space at all, this tune is pretty great. Could see it being on #1 Record

  7. SK Mike Murphy

And if it wasn't for The Cramps I would probably never got to know this band. :)

  8. Nia the Gulf Gypsy

  9. Porch Fyre

Anyone else think this song should be considered a masterpiece?

    BilisNegra

I don't want to appear as a radical figure, but this is a Posies song in my book. But it odds and ends of Big Star inspiration absolutely, too, the harmony vocals take you there.

    Michael Pink

It’s a complete masterpiece. Snob talk aside. Ha I’m on my 10th Time listening

    Jebb and Green Cast

jon auer is the best on vocals ha

    Jebb and Green Cast

@Master Debater we covered this album with the posies on our podcast coming out tonight

    Master Debater

@Jebb and Green Cast Fabulous. Thanks. I'll check it out

  10. Gaby Hunter

Basically a posies - song - excellent though

  11. Tboys rocknroll

I can't listen to this without seeing my friend ( who left this existence 5 years ago) he introduced me to this band years ago and when this album ( In Space) came out this was the first song he played for me...Fuck I miss him...

  12. Steve Osika

love big star. serious elliott vibes here

  13. lismoeff

    Ahhhh. It feels so goood...

    #OdedFriedGaon #OdedMusic #Audioded

  18. Master Debater

Better than Sister Lovers. Wouldn't be hard

  19. sró

That's the kind of music I'm in love with. And if it wasn't for Elliott Smith, I would probably never got to know this band. :)

    Erika Mi

Its good to get to Big star somehow!

    BilisNegra

While the band at this point was half BS /half Posies, this tune is Posies all around, as Jon is not only is on lead vocal /guitar, but the song is also his own, and there's also Ken on backing vocals and bass...

    Master Debater

@BilisNegra Well said. My thoughts exactly. Saw this version of Big Star live and all Chilton wanted to play was boring 50s rockabilly

    Jebbtsr

Master Debater just interviewed them on the podcast i do with my friend about this album https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUK1GGptslwNopeL_7ymLdw

  20. standingwave73

So exactly what album did this come from and who recorded this version if there's more than one? This is what happens when you walk into the middle of a conversation.

    Master Debater

From the album In Space. It was the Big Star comeback album with Jon and Ken from The Posies filling in for the late Chris Bell and absent Andy Hummell. It's my favourite Big Star song from that album. Not sure how much writing Alex did for it, as he was doing strange stuff of his own since Big Star. I'd say it's more written by the Posies than him

    standingwave73

Master Debater Thanks. I wasn't familiar with the Posies before you mentioned them . I got curious so I started listening to their stuff. Hooked now. In fact, Burn and Shine is one of my most listened to songs these days
    Thanks.

  21. Porch Fyre

    2 people weren't lady sweet.

  22. osinn

that cadd9 to g and back to the verse... magic

  23. Scott Boydle

This reminds me of Elliott Smith. I wonder who was listening to whom at the time?

    Danny Haiduk

    +Scott Boydle Angeles....

    Joseph Butler

he was influenced by this guy heavily. Listen to the Left Banke's song Pretty Ballerina.

    TheAlistairDick

Joseph Butler Or the song "She May Call You Out Tonight"

    resonantfrequency7125

    Are you kidding?

    Erika Mi

I think its is the other way around...

  24. thomas mark

    its from IN SPACE

  25. Richard Dowdy

    I am the Cosmos

    city zen

This Mortal Coil does a version that rivals the original.

  26. Just Jeanne

Being any cooler than Big Star is not possible.... love....

    BilisNegra

This is more Posies than original Big Star, though. Anyway I do love this, too.

  27. Amorican Dream

    What album is this on?

  28. plantasia

this song will probably grow on me but boy do i lovee the beginning strum

  29. De Oppresso Li-bear

This may have been written by Auer, but it sure sounds like there is pre-Big Star AC linkage... (The EMI Song)

  30. bunnyhead71

Bought this one the day it came out, and did not have high hopes. within the first three songs my first thoughts were.."How in the fuck can he still be this incredible?"

    BilisNegra

+bunnyhead71 Who do you mean? Auer?

  31. Matthew .Hutson

great song and a great fit for Jon's voice. Good stuff, cool song

  32. Aaron Feldman

The Posies are one of the bands who cite Big Star as having been a major influence on their sound. Two band members became part-time members of the later day line-up of Big Star with Alex Chilton.

  33. Vinícius Pinna

this song reminds of a girl that broke my heart and i still can´t forget her!that suck´s!

  34. Joe Bloggs

Wow, awesome song, where have you been all my life??

  35. Dsenuik

well elliott did cover "thirteen" by them so seems right.

  36. janattaaya

It is actually Jon Auer from the Posies singing this. He probably wrote it as well.

  37. Sady Maher

The other way round i think.

  38. Danny Hardacre

Does anyone else think this song sounds like the posies?
    or vice versa

  39. hannah savage

This song reminds me of Elliot Smith

  40. zonkster909

Just listened ten times.. RIP Alex.

  41. Lucas mc

Well, in my opinion, many of those bands you mention are quite respectable for me.

    Anyway, cheers
