Big Star - In The Street Lyrics
Hanging out, down the street
The same old thing we did last week
Not a thing to do
But talk to you
Pick me up, we'll drive around
Wish we had
A joint so bad
Bust a street light
Out past midnight
Ahh ahh ahh ah
Ahh ahh ahh ah
The same old thing we did last week
Not a thing to do
But talk to you

Eric and Donna or Hyde and Donna
this is off topic but did anyone else think eric yelled hello wisconsin?
but turns out, it was hyde. :|
It was Kelso..
It was Kelso
Recorded right in the heart of Overton Square, midtown Memphis @ Ardent. Rip John Fry 💙Rip Alex Chilton💙 Rip Chris Bell 💙Rip Andy Hummell💙
Ardent / Stax / Sun Recording Studios from the 50s til now. 4.4 miles between them in Memphis - they created music that lasts lifetimes.
Big Star wasn't hugely successful, but wouldn't it have been great if Hyde wore a Big Star T-Shirt once or twice on the show in homage to them and their theme song?
I also always thought Hyde would be the one guy in the crew who would be hip enough to wear a Zappa T-Shirt, but that's just because I dig Zappa...
Yeah that would've been awesome. Is it fair to say it would've been "meta"?
Wich episode?
Red Forman........ don’t be a dumbass
Great Britain hotel SlyFisH
at least they played the originals in the finale.
Hello California!
Many people would call the Velvet Underground the most underrated band ever, but for my money it's Big Star. This is some of the best pop music ever recorded, yet these albums barely broke 20,000 copies.
Chris Bell sings this one!
Best power pop album ever made.
Ned D. Hell yeah
Love the profile picture Ned D.
Fez got deported...
For all the fuss about this canonical band, I just cannot get into them for the life of me and believe me I have tried! I mean, I respect their contribution to the music but I just don't enjoy it for whatever reason. I love the wonderfully "bright" guitar sound on this, though.
Listen to September Gurls. Amazing and original guitar work.
We're all allright! We're all allright!
HELLO WISCONSIN
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just now heard this and got really excited
I can't believe some of the stupid comments on here. For anyone to say this sucks has questionable musical tastes, or are just too freakin' young to get it. Oh well.
Man just can't belive it came from Big Star. That's a masterpiece!
Pure. Beautiful. Too slow for today but far cooler than Cheap Trick's take. No offense. Love CHeap Trick.
Damn Jackie, stop kissing other guys!
I wish the people who made THAT 70'S SHOW had been a lot more forthcoming about where they got their music from,so I could have discovered this stuff long before now.I always thought the show's theme song was just something somebody made up for the show.
Shit guitar tone ugh
You're kidding, right? All of #1 Record is known for it's perfect mix and tones.
i love this version
This+Kush+'66 Mustang minus adult responsibilities=perfect summer.
I love you Eric
I love..............cake.
One of the best songs of the 70s
this is so shitty lol
lol it's the original version.
doesn't it mean it can't be shitty.
wanted to look up the original.
you're an imbecile
This track is a classic, as is the entire album. There's simply no accounting for taste, because yours obviously sucks.
Agree with that BS that the original wasn't good enough. Cheap tricks version sucks! Why not use the original you SOB's! This is the Best version period. Give them the credit they deserve!
I can't enjoy this song because I currently have a foot in my ass
they call themselves cheap trick. thank you thank you
By far the best opening of any series I was ever hooked on...From the mid-70's to the early 90's...No doubt!!!
Power pop
*You Dumb Ass'es*
Lighting in a bottle, perfect capture of that wild, anything-is-possible kind of crazy teenage energy !!!
Hello Wisconsin !
@David Koval Hello Memphis.
Introducing millions to this band that inspired so many who could hear the future in 1972 is why this song selection is awesome. And yeah the story is a bit sad but they were anything but when they were making this album! Every song has a hook or a break or harmony that inspire and come out of messing with the power pop formula! This is why I love Rock!
need more cowbells!
yourarse the funniest Mad Tv sketch
DAT COW-BELLLLLLL!!!
ohhhhh I thought this was originally Cheap Trick
now I see why Big Star was so influential
it feels like all my teenage years passed in the length of this song
Ain't that the truth?
I prefer this version, but then, I'm a HUGE Big Star fan. I only watched That 70's Show originally because I had heard the theme playing from another room, and was like, "That's not Big Star!". Got hooked into the series immediately of course. Then they used the song "Thirteen" by Big Star, and I about died. I adore that song! <3
@SorrowfulLesson That 70s Show seemed to use great but under appreciated 70s bands for their music, like the first episode when they go to a Todd Rundgren concert. Again, a somewhat popular band but not a household name. They were underdogs.
@Geoffrey Zoref They did an episode about Styx also. I mean, not an unknown band or an underdog, but everyone seems to hate them. Styx is ok, I like "Come Sail Away" but that's really it.
@Alex Smith I'm sure everything will be ok! SMILE!
@yersweety Why are you talking to me? What reason did you have to make such an irrelevant comment?
this is the original version of this song. for that 70s show, it was covered by todd griffin and used for the first season. future seasons featured a cover by cheap trick. as far as the theme covers, i believe griffin's is superior.
MrBubba1935 I like the Cheap Trick version, but that might just be my CT fandom showing
No way in hell is season 1's theme even close to as good as the others
MrBubba1935 they all have there place this one gives me chill vibes Todd’s and cheap tricks are both great and I listen to them both can’t say which is my favorite
Man,I wish I could sing that high it's has to be a great feeling
When Chilton did it live, he transposed it from G to D, which is MUCH easier to sing.
I agree,... great tune by an unknown band! But, the drumming is just GOD AWFUL!!! It sound like he has fallen on to his kit several times during the song.
I don't agree, the drumming By Jody Stephens who was just 19 at the time, is brilliant through out the entire album
"unknown band"?? you might be the most retarded person on the entire internet.
I never said it, Tamcon72 did
@colemann76 He's even better on Radio City.
It really is, especially on O My Soul
Ok. Wait a minute. . . If you close your eyes and let the music flow over your ears you can see that this version really hits theSWEET spot of the melody throughout the song. I love Cheap Trick, but this is GREATNESS.
... to be followed by"Surrender".
Well, give Cheap Trick some credit for recording a very cool song.. and the producers of T70'sS to bring all this into the zeitgeist. Also check out This Mortal Coil's version of Kangaroo and then the Big Star original- totally worth it.
whatever- do you like the Kinks/ Van Halen cover version one over the other ( you really got me)? everybody covers everybody else. It's all great! But it is always cool to seek out the original version of anything!
HOW CAN YOU LIKE CHEAP TRICK'S VERSION BETTER? This is so great. Raw. I love it.
Something "Raw" doesn't make it good. If it's a steak, you'd have food poisoning. Cheap Trick's version is better in this Wisconsinite's opinion.
Not everything raw is good... Gee. That was just my opinion, mr. Wisconsin.
I'm not saying your wrong, everyone is entitled to an opinion. It's just that mine is in favor of Cheap Trick. Whereas your's is that of Big Star's.
I agree, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Cheap Trick's version is far superior. This one puts me to sleep.
Let's put it this way--whichever version you'd rather listen to, Cheap Trick's version is still great because it calls attention to the Big Star original.
Cheap Trick's version seems better at first glance, to be honest. Perhaps we're all biased because of 70's show though?
I like this SONG better.... but Cheap Tricks version is good for a theme of a t.v. show
Wait, so this is the original version of this song? That other band just did a cover? What a cheap trick!
That's a hilarious pun
This song is like scratching an itch.
wish we had a joint so bad enter cowbell more cowbell into badass bridge with cowbell climax holy rock n roll i need more cowbell!
NOE, THIS IS QUAL.
Cheap Trick did a cover of it, this is the original version of the song.
i thought this song was by cheap trick??
Better than Cheap Trick
Hello Winsconsin !
HAAAANING OUUUT
Cheaptrick's version is okay, but I prefer this version much more
