Big Country - Prairie Rose Lyrics
(Texas)
Oh, that’s where I belong
It seems to me
Lonesome star shine on the big country
With open skies and you for company
How happy I should be
Hey, hey… You can take it from me
Hey, hey… I’ll be home and you’ll see
Hey, hey… Oh what a state to be in
Hey, hey… You’re tantalizing me
(Texas)
I will compose in fancy rhyme or just plain prose
A song of praise to you my prairie rose
Oh prairie rose
A crown of thorns, a scented flower
Hey, hey… You can take it from me
Hey, hey… I’ll be home and you’ll see
Hey, hey… I better leave right away
Hey, hey… I can hear you calling me
Hey, hey… Prairie rose
Hey, hey… Prairie rose
Hey, hey… Prairie rose
Hey, hey… I hear your voice and it keeps me from sleeping
Prairie rose
Hey, hey… Prairie rose
Hey, hey… Prairie rose
Hey, hey… Prairie rose
Hey, hey… Prairie rose

Big Country Prairie Rose Comments
Met the band back stage at Manchester Apollo after a gig (which as ALWAYS they brought the house down) this was the b side of the single East of Eden, all were brilliant informative, no attitudes just straight talking honest guys, I asked Stuart why they'd covered this old Roxy Music track and he smiled, looked straight at me and said "cos it's got the words Big Country in the lyrics mate!"....... Then he passed me a cold small can of Budweiser!!! One of the best moments of my life! Best live band I've ever ever seen, God bless you Stuart lad, sleep well and RIP lad, genius you were in my eyes.
Nice 👍
Worst Roxy music cover ever.
Roxy music are shit
@Marley Bu big country made that song sound good, how are keeping marley
@John MacIntyre Hiya John, I'm no bad thanks. Yersel? I really don't like roxy music. Bryan Ferry gave me the heebies. Total sleazeball. But I actually like BC's version. Wee bit of Tall Ships Go there in a. 😁
@Marley Bu I'm fine thanks, you can hear a bit of tall ships go, I know what you mean about Bryan Ferry he always was a bit of a weirdo
Roxy's own original wasn't exactly a belter was it dumb head!!!??
Always a favorite of mine... Bought the Green Box set of BC's first four albums in Japan in '90 and it had all of the bonus tracks, which were like treasure trove find. Among those many excellent extra tracks, this song is one of the many gems. Great rocker from the guys! Thanks for posting!

It's incredible to listen to a 1984 Big Country song that I have never listened before! Pure Big Country sound, The final part of the song was used after for the song Tall ships go
Originally a Roxy Music song, still one of my BC favourites.
Ah, thanks, I didn't know..
This is the most faithful cover of the original.
