Big Country - King Of Emotion Lyrics

I know where all that time has gone
Blown and drifted, listening to an August night
I see where I was wrong
But how could I know that you were right
When you said I would need something wild
Something crazy to carry me
I would see you naked and weary
But with pride in your eyes that put shame in me

I wait to find the things I need but I know

I want that love
King of Emotion
Stronger than you and so much deeper than me
I know that love is King of Emotion
King of Emotion take a walk with me
I know that love is King of Emotion
King of Emotion take a walk with me

You know where all that time has gone
Grown up and left, washed out like an April day
See all those pretty little things you knew
Worn and faded they lie cast away
You said you would need something wild
Something special to carry you
You would see me naked and weary
But with pride in my eyes that put shame in you

Until you find the things you need I know

I want that love
King of Emotion
Stronger than you and so much deeper than me
I know that love is King of Emotion
King of Emotion take a walk with me
I know that love is King of Emotion
King of Emotion take a walk with me

Until we find the things we need I know

I want that love
King of Emotion
Stronger than you and so much deeper than me
I know that love is King of Emotion
King of Emotion take a walk with me

I want that love
King of Emotion
Stronger than you and so much deeper than me
I know that love is King of Emotion
King of Emotion take a walk with me

  2. T.... O....

One of the great bands that I grew up listening to, and that has stood the test of time. I just have no idea what happened to them after this album. Subsequent albums just did not cut it.

    GREAT SONG.GREAT BAND.GREAT SINGER.THANKS STUART.

  7. P.... H....

Stuart Adamson, Big country, brilliant before he passed away, sadly, imagine how that talent would have grown with time if he was still here, probably even more mind blowing amazing music would have been produced by a band that will never be equaled again.

World Class. I once had the pleasure of meeting Stuart when working as a photographer when he performed this song from the balcony of Virgin Records Megastore in Princess Street Edinburgh with Richard Branson in attendance. Where most of his contemporaries don’t have time for anyone Stuart remained down to earth and couldn’t have been mor helpful where now his work lives on forever.

  9. J.... C....

One of my favorite song done by Big Country.

King of Emotion, Stuart Adamson, he is, was and always will be Royalty in my life, thank you for sharing and honouring this fearless, brave and heroic man of humility, passion and integrity.

Bless you, Rest in Peace Big Man, Long Live Big Country.

Classic pop/rock tune, so catchy! should have been a number one hit! BC were robbed by the likes of U2.

What time signature is this song "officially"?

I play the piano and guitar and I've always been quite musical, but I can't read sheet music (probably some sort of dyslexia) so time signatures seems somewhat mysterious to me. I hear a very fundamental difference between say 2/4 and 3/4 and 5/4 and 7/4 etc, e.g. prime numbers. But composite numbers can as "composite" implies be subdivided into a multiple of a prime number signature. You could always mentally insert extra beats between the ones you hear or group several beats into a longer bar and thus hear the same melody as 2/4 4/4 8/8 4/8 etc, but an even numbered signature will never feel like a 3 based or 5 based or 7 based melody etc.
I accept that 4/4, the most common signature for most popular music, still makes sense even though it's almost always composed of a repeating pattern of two 2/4 bars because 2 is somewhat too short to make an interesting pattern.

This song for instance, has a very strong 2 base pattern of "tick crash" (cowbell then snare in the start) but then the kickdrum makes every second bar of 2 different by adding a few extra beats in betwen in one and pausing in the other; so now it's a 4/4 pattern . (Or maybe since this there are two beats between the tick and crash, maybe that makes the original base pattern 4/8 with "tick pause pause crash" and the kickdrum pattern is 8/8 "kick pause pause kick kick kick pause kick", but to me it feels more "kick kick doublekick kick") Then the melody comes in and each "sentence" is 8 long (or 16 if you think of it as "tick pause pause crash"), which is also a pattern of two very similar sentences almost as a question and a response "du duru du?" "DI duru du!"; so logically you could say that these two sentences are a bar and then it's 16/4 (or 32/8 if you want); these are again comes in almost pairs of "A B1 A B2" patterns and if you group this it's 32/4 (or 64/8) but now it's getting ridiculous.
To me the percussion makes more sense if you think of it as 4/8 with "tick pause pause crash" as the base pattern with alternating "kick pause pause kick" "kick kick pause kick" bars.
But somehow even though the melody clearly has 8th notes, and is syncopated from the kick with an 8th pause, I still feel it makes more sense thinking of it as 8/4 for since each "sentence" is 4 tick-crashes long.

But then there are some drum fills between segments of the song that seems to skip (or insert an extra) 4/8 bar; which makes me think that 4/8 or 2/4 is the fundamental unit of this song. Since if I tap out a pattern of 4/8 or 2/4 while listening I never feel "off balance" but if I tap a 8/4 rythm I have to occacionally reset to get back in balance.

    What was the B side

    m.... h....

    The travellers, an instrumental

  22. D.... H....

They should have pushed this as a follow up to "In A Big Country". I think it would have done well here in The USA. So many of my peers consider Big Country a One Hit Wonder. No so.

    D.... H....

Had the privilege to experience Stuart Adamsons exceptional talent live in Glasgow at The Big Day in the 90's. Big Country was a prime example of a band of quality talented musicians who refused to sell out to big music publishing for vast wealth and fame in exchange for their artistic souls.

    D.... H....

David Huber the best band ever 😩

“I grew up playing a lot of R&B music, and I wanted to do a very R&B type song
and I like the ‘nah-nah-nahs.’ I always wanted a song with those in. ”
