Big Country - Into The Fire Lyrics

Floodwaters rising on the flatlands tonight
Been here before I guess we’ll get through again
Get your photographs and hide them all away upstairs
Then tie the shutters down against the rain

Last night I took a walk into the fire
Of a young man’s dreams
Someday soon I’ll leave that innocence behind me
Until then I’m here

Then I looked into your eyes
And saw the years I spent in them
I was amazed to find they still show clear
Out to the edge of every chance I ever took with you
Shining in the darkest places of my fear

Stay free and throw your cares into the future
Let them all come out
Be true and pass those dreams onto someone
Before you wear them out

Come on baby, come on angel
Take a walk into the fire with me now
Come on angel, come on come on my darling
We can talk into the fire here and now

I love the warmth of summers I remember
I see you shimmering in seven veils of haze
I hear the rainfall of a lifetimes worth of autumn
Running on my shoulders like November days

Last night I took a walk into the fire
Of a young girl’s dreams
Someday soon I’ll leave that innocence behind me
Until then I’m here

Come on baby, come on angel
Take a walk into the fire with me now
Come on angel, come on come on my darling
We can talk into the fire here and now

Come on baby, come on angel
Take a walk into the fire with me now
Come on angel, come on come on my darling

Then I looked into your eyes and saw the years I spent in them...one of my all time favourite BC lyrics

    Beautiful track, great lyrics.
It was originally recorded as a demo, Celtic Dream, with the same lyrics & song structure in the verses, but no chorus & a different second half.
Of course, Kate Bush & Stuart became great friends & collaborators, Kate lending her talents to The Seer, I'm guessing they were both helping each other out with both songs those lines & the melody were a result.
Celtic Dream's available on Rarities II as well as a link on YT, the two played in sequence is quite a ride

I reckon Stuart nicked the "Come on angel, come on my darling" lyrics from Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill". However, this is one of B.C.s top tracks, both lyrically and musically. I remember when I first listened to the NPLH C.D., and thought this track had ended at 3:30, until Mark fired it back into life, starting the superb outro.
