Big Country - I'm Not Ashamed Lyrics

We all make our plans, we all have our choices
Try on different faces, talk in other voices
I said a lot of things that never let me sleep
Made promises I really meant to keep

I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I took the blame when I could have run
I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I know I stayed when I could have gone
I don’t expect it to be easy for me

We’re tied together by a simple little pledge
Before we know the trust it takes to walk up to that edge
We build a house of cards where the wind has always blown
We build our little garden on a bed of sand and stones
It took to long for me to be who I am
Maybe it’s enough for me to be it when I can

I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I took the blame when I could have run
I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I know I stayed when I could have gone
I don’t expect it to be easy for me

Our little house is where the wind has always blown
Our little garden on a bed of sand and stones
We drift along in quiet waters on the tide
We rise and fall in rhythm almost satisfied

We let ourselves be drawn, let ourselves be used
I only ever wanted to be taken in by you
It took to long for me to be who I am
Maybe it’s enough for me to be it when I can

I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I took the blame when I could have run
I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I know I stayed when I could have gone
I don’t expect it to be easy for me

I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I took the blame when I could have run
I’m not ashamed of the things I’ve done
I know I stayed when I could have gone
I don’t expect it to be easy for me

Best group of all time brilliant guitar sound on all their songs . really miss them.

  2. Watercolour Society

Fantastic song, reminds me of visiting Scotland in the 90's

  3. Sadowsky1965

Great song, it remains in your mind like a drug.

  4. Jupiter-8

The drums suck in this, make the record sound like a 6th formers effort.

    Watercolour Society

I don't feel that, funny how others view things so differently...

  5. Paul Tomlinson

Another masterwork from SA, its such a shame that many people seem to focus on Stuarts undoubted prowess with the guitar, which is great, but, for me, so much of Big Country's lifelong appeal, is in how strong the lyrical side of the songs are. timeless.

Stuart Adamson - In A Big Country

The desire to tell a story or relate a subject matter to everyone, that was important to him, he wrote songs
from an Eclectic point of view, almost as if he thought of how others might fell about the subject matter in the songs.

Having the ability to see through the eyes of others and appreciate the position that someone else was in
and that came though in all his music.

A great example of this is the title track for the album "Steeltown", the basic subject matter of the song is Unemployment and the struggle of being able to survive. You don't need to have been working in Ship Yards
to appreciate being out of work.

Stuart Adamson wrote songs for the all people... Everyone & Everywhere.

    Watercolour Society

Aye brilliant lyricist, a poet even
