Big Country - Hurt Lyrics

No one should be left to walk through life alone
No one should have to carry such a heavy load
No one should be left behind to take the blame
I know that I can’t see you but I can hear you

No one can hurt you now
No one can bring you down
No one can touch you now
Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
No one can hurt you now

No one should be silent in a world of sound
No one should be blinded when the sun comes out
No one should be in prison and put on trial
When all would be forgiven by a higher power

No one can hurt you now
No one can bring you down
No one can hurt you now

All that was taken away
All the hurt ’n all the blame

I can hear you now
No one can hurt you now
(No one) Nobody’s gonna bring you down
No one can hurt, hurt you now
Nobody’s gonna break you down
No one can hurt you now

  5. H.... F....

I`ll   never stop loving Big Country songs...although my favourite is WHERE THE ROSE IS SOWN...

    H.... F....

I don't know what mine is. Though it's probably Restless Natives, In A Big Country, or Wonderland, or something else.
But still, I love this one. But my favorite from The Journey is The Journey.

  6. R.... A....

This is truly a great album. I've listened to it at least 50 times and it can, both, stand on its own and honor the Big Country tradition.

  7. a.... ....

Do you really want to hurt me?

  8. S.... P....

Mike Peters, so glad to see you singing in a great band again. Always loved you in the Alarm.

  9. C.... R....

Simply beautiful. Another worthy addition to BC.

  10. I.... S....

if Tom Petty and U2 got together to write a collaboration it would sound like this...

  11. m.... s....

The Terms and Conditions of this track live with the memories of Stuart Adamson.Much respect to Mike for stepping into such a legends cowboy boots.Save us from all wordly pain.

  12. W.... ....

love this song, i can imagine the travelling wilburys or the heatrbreakers covering this with tom petty on vocals

  13. 8.... ....

Nice song. Yeah, I got to agree with Chris Dunn, this one reminded me of Chance.....which is a good thing......a VERY GOOD THING.

  14. c.... ....

After listening to The Journey it is absolutely 100% Big Country.

  15. b.... ....

Great song......just home from the Belfast gig,had a fantastic time.Go and see them if you get the chance......a truly excellent band.

  16. K.... ....

great post 1967stones, agree with everything there.

  17. G.... P....

Hurt could be about Robocop, The Hulk or Superman in a kryponite free world :)

  18. G.... P....

Bruce Jr. right? Thanks! I just had a good laugh watching your videos, great stuff! Tell your dad that I think The Journey might be the best thing to ever be released from either the Big Country or The Alarm... I have been a fan since the beginning. I will bring a piece of DOOM history to one of the BC shows in the states for your dad to bring to you. I should be able to get it to him, I kinda know Mike ;)

  19. T.... ....

You helped make Doom and you like Big Country. And I just looked on Wiki and you've also worked on Robocop. I can't take all this in. You have lived my dream! Sorry about your father. His work used to be on my wall.

I now see that I got it completely wrong. Metaphorically speaking, the song is about NOT using the cheat code in Doom, it's about finding inner strength to overcome the despair of mortality.

Also, I've decided Hurt could be about Robocop. It's how my mind works. I can't help it.

  20. G.... P....

As someone who worked on DOOM I assure its not... My father painted the cover art for DOOM, he passed away a few years ago. This song is about that, the pain of losing someone and finding the strength to overcome. My wife lost her Mom a year ago and we both are still searching for the happiness we once knew. Songs like this get us a little closer.

  21. D.... T....

This is such a beautiful song, every time I hear the build up to the middle 8 and the images slide away it gets me in that place where only the great soulful music can take you, the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, a tear forms in my eye, I'm happy, I'm sad and I'm in that special place. As hard as it maybe we have to move on and accept this is just people coming together and making something wonderful and that is releasing the musical spirit within themselves and making it wonderful

  22. T.... ....

It's a catchy song, and although a bit schmaltzy, with the right promotion it could be successful commercial.
As for it being classic big country, or right up there with the best, as i have read, No, nope, not ever..
I feel the same about the full album, its a decent album, and has several very good songs, but is it 'big country' - no, nope, not ever..

  23. p.... ....

to anyone saying this is not a big country, they played this at the 02 glasgow last night it is an amazing song live! 100% big country - the journey starts here.

  24. A.... B....

This song and "Remembrance Day" show that this band has a great deal of respect for the memory of the fallen soldiers, and for their families. Soldiers are often thought of as men without fear and pain. Maybe this is true for some, but I suspect that it is really a matter of them transcending those feelings through their amazing courage.

They should be honored because but-for their courage, valor, and self-sacrificing ways, this world would not be nearly as good a place.

    Many thanks!

  25. R.... B....

Happy Birthday Stuart, this one's for you.

  26. C.... D....

Everyone bleating about it not being typical BC song! Have you heard Chance, Ships, Hold the Heart? Hurt is right up there with all BC have done!

  27. E.... p....

I like all Big Country do, but............no. Its an awful song, sentimental rubbish, which isnt what Big Country were ever about. Tony Butler would understand .

  28. M.... P....

  30. F.... F....

It's not a typical Big Country song, but wonderful anyway. R.I.P. Stuart.

  31. a.... ....

It's about Big Country of course. If we stay by ourselves with an open mind for the world no-one can hurt us. It's about life without borders. We should be proud for being ourselves the last 30 years! Even if time has changed our present, the future won't let us down! Song finished... :-)

  32. M.... A....

What I've heard of it, the album sounds great.

  33. p.... ....

its a messgage to stuart...and others like him.

  34. P.... C....

    I adore this

  35. d.... ....

    It's just you.

  36. S.... G....

Cant wait coming to coachouse san juan Capistrano august,One happy Jock

  37. a.... ....

I felt hurt when no-one of Big Country supported a gig in Verviers on 31 of May. Know I know they will be in the USA in June I can understand why. Hurt is a song that has to grow like a flower in a forest no-one has seen before. Like most of the songs of Big Country they grow steadily and reach people who are searching in a forest for flowers no-one else will see! X

  38. L.... D....

Great tune guys can't wait to see you in Dublin this month

  39. T.... ....

My guess: Is the song about typing in the passcode to activate God mode in the classic video game Doom?

  40. D.... M....

Excellent tune guys, it's nice to see "collar up and arm aloft" Brucey again...

  41. T.... H....

Can't wait for the rest Boys.

  42. M.... ....

    Great tune, thanks lads

  43. b.... ....

There are some similarities in the Chorus. The difference is: T&C is largely a forgettable one dimensional song— more like a demo, Hurt is a fully fleshed out and formed song that is memorable. I think Mike found the right words to deliver the one phrasing he started out with on T&C and the music on Hurt is in a whole other class, with a full classic song structure. Making it quite different than T&C in the end.

  44. b.... ....

The song is as good as any classic Big Country song. The video leaves a lot to be desired though. The Stuart Adamson memorial bench and what I think are the top gates of Angle Park are a real special touch. Hopefully the next single get's a little more pro treatment in the visual side of things. Glad to see a new single and video on the interwebs.

  45. E.... S....

brilliant new style, "BIG COUNTRY" cant wait till
Glasgow ABC gig next Friday .STAY ALIVE

  46. D.... B....

Love this tune, a real Grower

  47. a.... ....

Oh yeah! They're back! Darn good song

  48. M.... ....

Isn't it very similar to "Terms and conditions" or is it just me?

  49. l.... ....

Really growing on me - Much better than Another Country . Like the video too

  50. p.... e....

not too many real bands playing real music love it

  51. h.... ....

    Unfortunate but true.

  52. S.... ....

It is nice to see Stuart's bench in there as well.

  53. S.... ....

Song is a real grower, wondered why it was the single at first but I'm starting to really dig it. Video is OK, obviously no real budget behind it but I guess there isn't much point in throwing away money with very little chance of airplay on MTV/VH1. Done a pretty good job considering the budget actually.

  54. M.... A....

Great song, not a fan of the video though!

  55. j.... s....

Not a bad song, but as any Alarm fan will know the tune is a total rip off of 'The terms and the conditions.'Thought Mike Peters could have come up with something original.

  56. J.... C....

    Tasty tune..

  57. s.... w....

    very good

  58. G.... B....

    Very moving..... love it.

  59. D.... ....

Very touching imagery. Seeing the lyrics from "Eiledon" flash by there in the beginning really hit me hard. Beautifully done.
