Biffy Clyro - Once An Empire Lyrics
I wouldn't want to get fucked by
A kangaroo in any position
We need to block it block it it's spongy
Your savior's only picking on you
I bet you ten pounds it wouldn't fit
I was wrong so you must be rich
The poor girl once an empire
The poor girl once an empire
She lacks some fluid motion
All her circles came in squares
No community
No community
You're one of a kind, one of a kind sister
I paint my thoughts with a hairbrush
Jet black is a delicate operation
My mirror reflects all it sees
Coming at the end of my empire
You've got your foot half way up your dick
I bet you ten pounds it wouldn't fit
I was wrong so you must be rich
The poor girl once an empire
The poor girl once an empire
She lacks some fluid motion
All her circles came in squares
No community
No community
You're one of a kind one of a kind sister
Let's break that spell tonight
Tonight
The poor girl once an empire
The poor girl once an empire
She lacks some fluid motion
All her circles came in squares
No community
No community
You're one of a kind one of a kind sister
Let's break that spell tonight

Who wouldn't?
"I wouldn't want to get fucked by a kangaroo, in any position" Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.....

Biffy clyro do things with music that other artists can only dream of, like any band their style is always evolving with them and going in every direction. And all the b sides are invariably flawless
I have to agree with you. Same applies for the new album. People wonder where the "old" Biffy went. They never went away, but someone is selecting the wrong tracks for their albums.
it is, listen to the few bsides on opposites
is that actually possible
Si - Kanga Style
dunno how people can say Only Revolutions is average! It isnt their best but still, it has some killer songs, This is a great bside. Its all about Vertigo Of Bliss for me.
Dude, you can't know how much I agree with you, WAY better than the actual album (even if some songs are good like Whores or Shock Shock)
Mmmm... Punky
HOW IN THE MON THE BIFFUCK IS THIS A B-SIDE?!
"I wouldn't want to get fucked by
A kangaroo in any position
We need to block it, block it
It's spongy
Your saviour's only picking on you"
....crazy lyrics even by Biffy's standards. What a song!
@monthebiffy10 i find that almost all their b-sides are phenomenally better than their album tracks,...especially on PUZZLE
@Enema27 It's not over- produced - It's very well produced - there are plenty of screams and acoustic guitar slide noises here and there. an album isn't a live album. I agree that they are catachy rocky tracks - but saying they're simple ain't right - they ain't simple - the rhythms (for example) are fucked and crazy on Whorses, Shock Shock, Bubbles (before the end josh homme bit), Cloud of Stink, and That Golden rule . There is frankly more experimental shit here plus great catchy rock tunes.
@DillingerEscapeMan Because of the over-production. In wanting to make things sound clean/crisp it took away a sense of the music coming from real instruments played by actual people. When Simon stretches his voice to hit certain notes you know if it was live there'd be a little scream that breaks through. It's just a little false. I never said anything was bad, I agree they're great albums, but it's gone from becoming more experimental, to simple catchy rock tracks.
@Enema27 OK OK , but how can you say bubbles or mountains sound like they're made by robots? Thats ridiculous!! If something that challenges you as a listener is your thing, then fair enough, but in admitting that : you can't say something is bad just because it doesn't challenge you - It's like a rap fan saying " I don't like Green Day cos I don't like electric guitars" or something. But OR is very, very, very interesting musically
@DillingerEscapeMan More dynamic than most other bands these days? Sure. Very dynamic? Not so much, and just not at all compared to what Biffy can do. A lot of Puzzle and OR sounds way better live. I think those two albums (and IL at times) are way over-produced, taking a lot of the soul away from the songs. I like albums that sound like they're made by people and not by robots. And I like albums that challenge me as a listener, which they just don't do.
@Enema27 I'm glad you gave Diamond Eyes that's fine - but come on puzzle and OR are fucking amazing - and very dynamic
@DillingerEscapeMan
And Short term fans aren't? I'm not hating on the new stuff, but it is less dynamic than the first 3 CD's. I didn't say it was average, but If it was an average Biffy album, it'd be better than it is - a below average Biffy album, On average, Biffy are better than Puzzle or OR, but when compared to what other music came out in 2010 it's way above average. But there were better things that came out in 2010:
And So I Watch You From Afar - The Letters EP
Deftones - Diamond Eyes
@Enema27 Long term fans are biased, just as with most bands - hating on the new stuff. If OL was average - then what was better that came out in 2010?
@DillingerEscapeMan Something better than Only Revolutions, appart from IL?
Blackened Sky + B-sides
Vertigo of Bliss + B-sides
Vertigo of Bliss again, because it's awesome
Also, Vertigo of Bliss.
@monthebiffy10 average album???????????? Gimme something better then apart from IL
July 3rd, i will a throw a paper aeroplane with this song written on it as request so that all the people who haven't yet heard this song shall be blessed. If you are attending July 3rd, i urge you to do the same thing. Its for a brilliant cause :)
@RHSSCHTV NO! Na Na Na Na, sounds similar to this. Please, get it right. I dont mean this to be a jabby reply, but surely this tops My Chem. That's not a question, its a fact. :)
I really love Biffy, but i'm not sure if i like this song :(
Hangin on a rope *ting ting* got me hangin on a rope, on a rope *ting ting* Got me hangin on a.......
song would be sick live.
This ongoing wide-ranging discussion between @TheNeutralFan and @Enema27 mostly just confuses me... half the time I agree with one or the other. But at the end of the day I think @monthebiffy10 pretty much nailed it. With very few exceptions, the B-sides to Only Revolutions wipe the floor with the album tracks.
@manicmacintosh How does saying the word trajedy make me a girl's blouse?
@manicmacintosh Eh?
@Enema27 ... Infinity Land and the Vertigo of Bliss, so you can argue that they're experimenting in that way. What I'm trying to say is that they're experimenting in the context of old Biffy, even if they're not experimenting Biffy-style. In a nutshell, they're just messing around with music in a different way. Sorry if I've made this and my other comment incomprehensible.
@Enema27 That's pretty much what I mean. Although I would say that in the last two albums they're just experimenting in a different way, and holding back in a Biffy way. I mean, when I listen to Only Revolutions, I hear trumpets in The Captain, fiddles in That Golden Rule, pop guitar in Bubbles,... (so on and so forth)... synth in Know Your Quarry, and a bloody theremin in Shock Shock. They're experimenting, just not in a Biffy way. Puzzle and Only Revolutions are a drastic change from...
@TheNeutralFan I see where you're coming from. It's just that "easing off on the experimentation" is what caused the last two albums to sound a bit bland in comparison to what was going on in VoB or IL. By all means the new albums are unquestionably biffy, but they're Biffy holding back, rather than really experimenting.
@Enema27 I've just realised how bad I am at commenting sometimes.
@Enema27 Not really... I only mean that I hope they don't forget who they are, with all the massive range of genres expressed in Puzzle and Only Revolutions. I just didn't have the room to say that fully, so sorry if it confused anyone. I mean, Biffy are experimental by nature, and I really don't mean that they should stop being Biffy. I'm just scared that they'll forget what makes them Biffy. I could probably explain that better, I'm out of ideas. Sorry. =[
@TheNeutralFan Are the last two sentences of this comment supposed to be ironic?
What folk don't realise is that these B-sides are mostly Infinity Land with a slightly softer edge, which kind of saddens me. All you folks who like this are strongly encouraged to check out their older stuff. Although, I'm increasingly noticing that Lonely Revolutions as an album is pretty different to anything else Biffy have written before. Maybe a hint of what's to come? I can only hope they ease off on the experimentation before they lose their image. That WOULD be a tragedy.
This is just like the best bits from Infinity Land and Puzzle randomly patched together with no regard for Only Revolutions-style-cleverness. Fucking classic Biffy.
i got the b-sides album it's so awesome
This is a b-side? How the bloody hell did this not get on the album? I prefer this by miles to 'that golden rule' and that became a single!
Or maybe it's just the band, they CAN'T physically make a bad song.
@FrightenedOnion No hes right its Average you obviously havent heard their earlier stuff..
HALF THE B-SIDES SHOULD'VE BEEN ON THE ALBUM!
@monthebiffy10 If I could thumbs up this comment 100 times I would
what is with the opening line?!?!
LMAO, i dont think many people would want to get f-cked by a kangaroo... in ANY position hahahahaha
xoxo
I agree the B-sides are fucking amazing... :D
Looool. Dude needs to be high more of the time then.
dude...he must have been so high for these lyrics
I bet you £10 it wouldn't fit!
Thanks!
you're SOOO right!! A biffy b-sides album would be the best album of the decade in my opinion, I've made so many biffy b-side compilations over the years but i'd love to see an official release.
